That's a good deal. Big speaker though, not very portable.

I'm really happy with my ZR7 and X99 speakers. Sony/Google pushed out an update last month which makes these Google Home (voice!) compatible with full Chromecast functionality. The X77 wasn't mentioned in the release announcement but according to eg http://www.sony.com/electronics/wireless-speakers/srs-x77 they are also compatible now.

The X77 is great for portability IMO, depending of course on what you need. With Bluetooth, spotify connect, chromecast functionality, airplay, great wireless reception and a battery. Fantastic price! Only negative for me is the glass top which can break easily if dropped.

  • How good is this against Sonos 1

    • +1

Different tech so depends on what you are comparing - sound, wireless quality, looks, bluetooth, battery? Sonos has mesh networking, this only standard wifi network (no mesh). This has chromecast support and spotify connect. I think Sonos has some kind of integration with Spotify but not sure how that works. This has a battery, airplay and bluetooth. Sonos is a closed system so to speak. This is a little more open.

    • I have both the Sonos Play 1 and this Sony speaker. I prefer the Sony - sound wise I have to give it an edge - probably on par with a Play 3.

As wolfshooter said, the Sonos is a bit of a closed system.

      Advantages of the Sony are
      - portable with battery so you can take it with you (in the backyard or anywhere else)
      - the Sony has Spotify Connect - the Sonos you can only play Spotify if you pay for Spotify Premium.
      - the Sony has bluetooth (can play things from any bluetooth source)
      - Chromecast (and Google Home)

      • Any luck with "OK google" voice commands? I can't get this working on my Sony soundbar (and I'm starting to look rediculous at home talking to a soundbar with zero response).

The Sony also has AUX input

    • Thank you all

  • It's a second, Not necessarily refurbished item.
It may just be damaged box etc.

Yep, that's right. I didn't put refurbished in the title (think a mod did) - I only put that it's listed as a second in the eBay listing. Bought this speaker (and other items at other times) from the Sony eBay store and they are brand new items from what I can tell (I think Sony uses the eBay store as a channel to sell box damaged or superseded products)

I have several of these in a boutique hotel, they are incredible - super loud and crisp, very stylish appearance and as many have eluded exceptionally "open" - literally work with anything so great for the hotel guests. Grabbed another few today, at that price they make the Bose Mini SoundLink 1/2 brutally expensive.

  • Sometimes I wonder how much I save when I use ozbargain, other times I wonder how much I spend because of it….. thanks OP (I hope)
