Hot Wheels AI Starter Kit $49.99 at ALDI on Clearance, Was $99.99

650

I had my eye on this when Aldi brought it in as a Special buy just before Christmas, but balked at the $100 price tag, even though it was USD$70 to USD$100 in the states

Well as of today it is on clearance for $49.99, which I think is an exceptional deal

You get 2x Intelligent RC cars and a track.
Very similar but not quite as good as the Anki Overdrive system they fetch $300+

I am tempted to buy 2x kits to get more cars and track, I'll see how the first one goes.

8+ still in stock at Macquarie in ACT.

YMMV

      Aldi Idiot.

OP - buy 2 now, take both back if it sucks, take one back if one is sufficient. Save regretting not having grabbed a second when you had the chance!

      Yeps deal with it later.

  • Can you run 2 kits together? (To make 4 cars, larger track) Or do the RF frequencies overlap? Think they are 2.4ghz but not 100% sure

    • The box has pictures of two other different cars to be bought separately. So more than two is definitely an option. But not sure about the same types.

Seems like the kind of thing that's cool for a week then ends up in the roof for the rest of the year

More like the rest of your life…

  • I'll sell you my Anki Drive set with two tracks and three cars for $200

    • Is it the overdrive or first mat version?

You might want to put Macquarie ACT on the title because ALDI clearance is as store specific as it get. You got generous store that put their clearance at 50% and then there are some tightass store that mark off their clearance by 5% then 10% then 20% max.

    • They also price match each other, I saw the record/tape player marked down at one store and decided not to get it until pay day, went to my local store who called the other store to price check with them and then matched it

  • Looks pretty cool - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa9pQlPw5NU

It's good that you can use them as normal RC cars.

My kids got them for Christmas. Half an hour setting up the "easy to assemble" track. 5 minutes and 6 thousand batteries (AA for cars, AAA for controllers) and 10 minutes of play before the kids got bored.

    • Would you sell it? 😀

  • Damn. Bought it for 6 yo for Chrismas for the full price.

My son really enjoys it. That Ai helps the cars to stay on track, so it's really simple to play. You can also just drive them around the house without any track.

  • Kallangur store has more than 10 in stock at this clearance price

  • Keilor East (nw melb) had four left this arvo.

  • weird the store I went to had it for $84.99 on clearance

  • 3 left at Broadway store at Aldi. It says 8 + but my 3 year old loves it and can play it in beginner mode even.

  • Went to my local Aldi - showing at full price still.

  • Just to confirm, there were about 10-15 units left at Pakenham Aldi around 12pm today. I took a photo but don't know how to post it here. Cheers!

  • Thanks OP. I got the last one from Brandon Park. I can also save people from trying box hill, forest hill, the pines, St Kilda, and vermont south - they all had no stock.

These Hot Wheels AI systems are based off the Real FX Racing system. I got on board with Real FX when they were a Kickstarter campaign. They are a fun little system. The cars can also be driven in RC mode without the track if you wish. You would be able to purchase two units and use the 4 cars on the same track no problems. If you search Real FX there is a forum around and the owner and creator of the system quite often answers questions and is happy to assist when necessary.

  • Aldi Gilles Plains (SA) had 10 last evening. I bought one as a birthday present.

  • I tried to buy one for full price at christmas.

Turned out the girl never scanned it even though she put it through at the checkout.

SO I got mine for $0

It's pretty good. My 3 yr old likes it and his daddy can play the other car on advance/RC mode. There is also a mode for one car to be a 'shadow' car and you have to try and beat it.

But then my kid took all the tires off and now we are short 1… So I have to go get a spare part now.. lol
