$500 Matched Savings Program Via Saver Plus @ ANZ (Not Everyone Is Eligible - See Description)

150

I just successfully completed my saving schedule and received $500. It's ANZ funded $500 in matched saving program for attending 4 finance workshops and it runs nationally.

The previous deal was posted in March https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238710 so I don't think I am breaking any rule here.

Saver Plus is a matched savings and financial education program that can assist you to:

reach a savings goal
become a regular saver
build your money management skills.
Saver Plus provides an opportunity to have every dollar saved (up to $500) matched with an additional dollar for your own or your family’s education-related expenses.

Benefits

There are many benefits to participating in Saver Plus!

More than 32,000 people have joined Saver Plus since the program began in 2003. Participants have used the matched savings provided by ANZ to purchase a wide range of educational items, including computers and computer equipment, text books, school uniforms and school camps. Matched savings can also be used for extra curricular activities such as music lessons and sport.

Participants find the education workshops to be extremely rewarding, and finish the program with improved money management skills and a long term savings habit. Most participants continue to save long after they complete the program.

Eligibility

Saver Plus is available in 60 locations across Australia (PDF 152kB).

You may be eligible to join Saver Plus if you or your partner:

have a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
have some regular income from work
are at least 18 years old and
are a parent or guardian of a child at school or are doing a vocational training course yourself.
How it works

You can apply to join Saver Plus by contacting your local Saver Plus Worker in your region. On being accepted into the program, you will set a 10 month savings goal with help from your Saver Plus Worker and will open an ANZ Progress Saver1 account.

The program also includes 10 hours of fun, informal financial education workshops.

If you successfully complete the program, ANZ matches your savings dollar-for-dollar, up to $500. This money can be used for education costs (either your children's or your own) such as computers, uniforms, books and sports equipment.

Sounds like a lof of effort..

Once you are setup (takes less than 30 min including meeting with a coordinator and setting up Progress Saver account), schedule a payment of $50 each month and you are all good to go.

There is nothing like free money!

If it isn't a good return on the investment of your time, you are not in the target market.

If it is a good return, what a fantastic initiative for those who need it. Education and cash!

Sounds like a marketing campaign for a time-share development.

  • When you fulfil all the requirements except go to uni instead of doing vocoational training :(

    • They never asked me evidence for vocational training :)

    • You can be a uni student and participate, its not marketed towards uni students but they are totally eligible. (Im not an ANZ associate but I am a Saver PLus associate)

  • Did they just give you 500 cash afterward? No receipt require etc for purchase eg. Laptop?

    • You need to produce receipts to claim money.

Fantastic initiative. Wish they would open up the money management classes to people who don't meet these criteria. There's a lot of people out there who are hopeless with money.

  • A lot of banks seem to offer some variation on this (matched dollar to dollar savings up to $500 in <12 month period for people in precarious financial positions), I wonder whether there was some gov involvement in the schemes subsidising the banks offering this eg http://cr.nab.com.au/docs/npc1080_210x100_addsup_eastern_sta…

    • The gov funds the NGO's that support the people on the program. The bank funds the matched savings themselves. Gov does not fund the bank to provide the program otherwise.

      • Thanks for the info just seemed curious the $500 matched savings amount

  • I am already out on first term.

I passed that one easy enough, but it was the next one that got me - must have at least some regular income from work. Ah, nope. So I have to be able to make money to get more money?

  • How long do these 4x finance workshops go for?

    • It depends on how many people are involved, they are usually booked for 2.5 hours - total of 10 hours, but in my experience its less.

10 hours of torture more like.
