Thanks for the idea I might make my own and save $13.

$13 for a piece of plastic?

I could buy a plastic colander or drainer for a few bucks that would do the same job, that's if it even works.

    • Yep, same thought here.
      Anyone tried ebay/alliexpress?

I bought one. It ensures you don't transfer the sediment back to your car when washing. Make sure it fits inside your bucket though.

    • Never used one of these. I take it you just take the dirty mitt and scrape it back and forth on the grid then dip the mitt in the clean bucket? (2 bucket wash method)

      • That seems to be the recommended approach. But I prefer to try and avoid it. The logic is that you simply don't reach the bottom and transfer the sediment back to the sponge or mitt.

Well it's been an hour and JV hasn't piped up :-). These are a good idea, I already have a couple, but this is the regular price… Maybe move to the forums?

SCA currently have 15L pail buckets for $4 with eBay code

    E.g. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SCA-Designer-Pail-Fire-15L-/20172…

    • okay, but does it do what this does??

      • +1

Um, no, but this will fit into that. It will not fit into your normal $1 bucket unless you cut it down.

  • I've paid $30 for mine from Car Care Products so this is a bargain in comparison.

      $30!!!

why not buy 2 99cent buckets. drill lots of holes in the base of one and then put that in side the bucket with out holes?

    • Obviously a good amount of grit would settle on the undrilled plastic. Simpler to use 3 99c buckets if you don't want to fork out for one of these.

  • out of stock at my local… and within a few hundred kms of me..

  • This one is slightly different than the original grit guard which is also on sale ($13.95 down from $16.95) from Chemical Guys

Any coupons for free shipping from Chemical Guys? I found code 'gold' give an extra 5% off, but shipping kills it!

  • Funny, I just asked about this at Repco and they had no idea what I was talking about.

    • Yeah had the same experience this morning at Repco and Supercheap…

      • I bought one at Autobarn and took in into SuperCheap to show them. Sounded like some SuperCheap employees were heading a couple shops down in their lunch break.

I just use the two bucket method. One for the clean soapy water, the second bucket to rinse the rag after each wipe of the car. Obviously the soapy bucket stays clean and the rinse bucket collects the dirt. This is over kill.

  • I also use two buckets, but I rinse/rub my sponge under running water into the second bucket instead of just having the second bucket already full of water.

Here's a larger one, made of stainless steel, for two cents less, with free delivery:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stainless-Steel-Round-Shape-Cake-…

They are available in many sizes, search for "round cake cooling". Not all are stainless steel, but even if they aren't, they'll probably outlast the plastic one in this deal.
