Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Laptop (Pentium N3710 Quad-Core, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) $319.20 Delivered @ Dell eBay

720
COMMIT20

The deal is on yet again. This unit is great value at this price, available in blue, white & red.

The previous deal ended only yesterday, but they ran out of stock at the end. Currently it says "Limited quantity available" and an hour ago I was able to purchase a blue one without any trouble.

Specs:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit English
Pentium ® Processor N3710 (2M Cache, up to 2.56 GHz)
4GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM (4GBx1)
128GB SSD
11.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display
Ports 1 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI v1.4a
Integrated Widescreen HD (720p) Webcam with Digital Microphone
Battery up to 10 hours 15 mins
Starting at weight: 1.18 Kg

I bought one in the November 2016 deal and I'm very happy with it. My only complaints are that it lacks any LEDs to indicate charging status, and the CPU is a bit weak, e.g. if you open up 50+ browser tabs then it will start to struggle.

There are plenty of comments and discussions in the previous deals posted here.

Not a bad looking entry level 2 in 1.

    • Don't think this is the 2 in 1 model champ.

Great value unit though. Nothing would come near it for the price.

    • +1

      This isn't the 2-in-1 model.

      • Hmm maybe I'm mixed up with the one with the 360° hinge

    • +1

Make sure you've got some frozen peas in the freezer then!

    • Given the quality of the panel and the size of the screen, anything better than 768p wouldn't be pleasant to look at. It's not a great resolution, but it's good enough.

  • +5

the CPU is a bit weak, e.g. if you open up 50+ browser tabs then it will start to struggle.

But do you really need to have 50+ tabs open? I thought I was bad with ~20

Maybe consider a chrome extension like "The Great Suspender" which suspends inactive tabs

    • +1

When you watching prOn u need that many tabs :)

    • +2

      I think he's just making a point.

    • I find that on this laptop just opening one "busy" website causes the laptop to lag a bit. It's not a fast CPU, but it's "good enough" for casual web browsing :)

    • Thanks for the great chrome extension <3 mad love x

  • tempting. would make a great holiday laptop

i hear the new pentium chips will all have HT enabled since intel is worried the new zen chips from AMD are going to be quite competitive. seems a pentium with HT will get a 15% speed bump.

  • +4

I have one, starts up in seconds, no lag when trying to open up apps right after boot, makes a great net and ms office machine. Also the screen is adequately sharp.

    • What are the viewing angles like?

      • Honestly, not too good - you really want to be sitting front on :)

The screen is the weak point of the laptop (the CPU is the second weak point, it's a bit slow compared to a modern desktop CPU, but for the price it's great).

By default the screen is washed out a bit with a slight blue tinge, which the Intel drivers can correct for if you reduce the blue level by a small amount :)

    • Ill ask one of the more common questions that will definitely maybe be asked later..
      gaming? dota2/tf2/csgo/warcraft3/sc2/cod/bf/civ/etc

      Youtube 720p? Youtube 1080p?

      Android emulator? bluestacks? etc?

Uhm yeah how far do you think you can or have pushed this thing?

Obviously at best looking for super low settings and everything but like can it do at least 720p video for say like tv shows and movies?

This might be able to tie me off until someone releases a new android tablet

      • Youtube the "N3700" and games, and you can watch some videos on how well (or how poorly) it runs… it will run older games at low settings, basically :)

(The N3700 is more common than the N3710, so you'll find more hits on that model)

For video though, they are great. The screen is basically only 720p, but the actual N3710 is a Braswell CPU, using the "Intel HD Graphics 405". This thing has hardware decoders for even 4K/H.265, so it has no problems playing pretty much any video (even via HDMI to a big screen).

  • +1

This model has a very useful micro sd reader, which can also be used to instantly expand its storage capacity.

  • Nice post op

  • Great little laptop I grabbed one from last year

  • +2

I ordered one on Jan 12th and they say delivery is Feb 2nd-17th… seems slower than I would have expected, a month?!

    • +2

Coming from Malaysia, I think, not local
I ordered one from the last deal, Jan 9, was shipped Jan 12, due to arrive Jan 25

    • +2

These things aren't in stock and ready to go, they go through the entire Dell build process.

  • +1

order one of these for christmas in november. 2 weeks before christmas i follow up with dell and after speaking to a dozen people i was basically told to go (profanity) myself. The order is still pending , paypal wont let me cancel it until next month.

Point is dont buy this , its not worth the headache

    • +1

I think you faced the same problem as me.
Did you order DIRECTLY from Dell's website, and then proceeded to pay via paypal?
If yes, then ignore the paypal transaction. You will never be charged.
There is nothing to cancel on paypal as no transaction has occurred.

      • +1

Yeah i know and i will never buy from dell again , the problem was that it was a christmas gift and there was a mad dash to find a replacement laptop so there wouldnt be somebody left out on christmas day. The experience was so bad ive pushed my entire workplace to never buy dell again , i cannot stress how bad dell customer service is

  • I need something like this but with a full HD screen… any recommendations??

  • Same here but cheaper: http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-11-3162-laptop/pd?oc=z5108…

Different configuration. The one you listed has 32Gb eMMC storage, which isn't upgradable. The one in this deal has a 128Gb SSD which is fully upgradable (as well as the RAM, you can upgrade to 8Gb).

Plus the one you listed has a N3060 (dual core CPU), the one in this deal is an N3710 (quad core CPU).

In short, the one in this deal is much more powerful and expandable :)

      • Comparing the two CPUs on CPU Benchmark:
        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp%5B%5D=2762&cmp%5…

This deal's CPU is about double the power of the cheaper one's

The 32Gb flash drive is really restrictive. If you run a few updates of Win 10, you have very little left. I tried one of these cheap laptops with a similar configuration - it went back to Officeworks the next day.

  • The model has 2 wireless options
    • 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth 4.0
    • 802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.0

Any idea which one this has?

    • Comes with 802.11AC! The actual model is Intel Dual Band (1x1) AC-3160

      • Thanks, I missed the 'Configuration' tab that had the details.

  • Great laptop for travel, just had one delivered a week ago. No issues apart from WIN 10, just takes over when doing unknown updates .. places the device on freeze!!.
Had the same issue re payment via PayPal, order was in limbo land!, had to phone Dell and then the charge and actual order processed shortly after!.

  • Bought this netbook for my mom. Only neg will be 4GB ram (Which is easily replacable with 8GB which would put you back by $70) and average screen quality. Pros are good price, SSD, lightweight, Long battery life.

  • How does this one stack up against this one i bought:

    HP 250 W5T32PT G5 I3-5005U 4GB 500GB DVD-RW 15.6" Win10

All i know is , one CPU is better, the other one Hard Drive is faster.

    • Replace the HDD with an SSD and you'll be flying….

    • First question you should ask youself is can you live with the Dell 11.6" screen in this offer.
The HP model you listed is a 15.6".

  • 128GB SSD but how much is taken up by windows?

    • I've installed Ubuntu 16.04LTS on mine and everything works perfectly including wifi and bluetooth.

      • ?

      • +1

Ummm so how much space did windows 10 take up on the SSD before? Thanks

  • Thanks for this. Bought one. Is anyone able to tell me how many memory slots is in this as I want to upgrade the ram. Appreciate any help.

    • +3

One :( You need to remove the 4Gb stick and replace it with a single 8Gb stick. I don't think it's worth it though, the CPU will bottleneck the system well before the 4Gb RAM does.

      • Agreed. I tried a cheapee laptop with low-range CPU and 2GB RAM once. Took it back to Officeworks next day. Tried another one with 4GB RAM. Took that one back too as it was just as bad.

      • Thanks heaps for the info :)

      • Depends on what you want out of a $320 laptop.

It's amazingly fast with the SSD, 4GB of ram is plenty for general tasks plus watching 1080p videos.

  • Can someone please run CPU-Z on one of these and let me know if it supports the SSE2 Instruction Set?
    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

  • Fantastic little device, bought it for work and watching videos on the bus. Use it everyday and love it.

I'm sure most people are aware, but make sure to up the colour saturation settings as the factory settings are washed out and dull.

Go to to the bottom right pop up tray > Intel HD Graphics > Graphics Properties > Display > Colour Settings > Advanced > Saturation. I up it to 5, (but go up to 10 if you want extra pop).

Also increase Gamma to 1.1 and Contrast to 51, now it looks natural

  • Got one delivered today for my father.
    Thanks OP.

    • When did you order yours. I guess I was a bit late and ordered on 11. Still waiting

  • Thanks OP. Just bought 1. It's not a 2 in 1 is it? That's all right. Those touchscreens eat battery

    • not touch screen
there is a touch screen verison, I have seen it at jbhifi for 590 odd
      similar specs too

  • Would someone be able to comment on reliability etc? I have an Asus i5 or i7 around 3 years old from memory and I've had to replace the screen and may have to replace the touch pad now too so thinking of just buying this one to replace it instead. I don't game only web browse, YouTube and use office Etc

A value-box laptop like this should last you anywhere between 2-5 years. Your mileage varies depending on your ability to troubleshoot simple OS problems or even knowing how to fix a small hardware problem.

As to how relevant the hardware is a few years from now, computing requirements have remained static over the last few years and we've haven't had a need to really bump anything in terms of performance to make things like web browsing or word processing faster. We've made huge improvements in power efficiency though.

So in short, this laptop can still be used for the same things it does today a few years down the road.

      • Thankyou very much :) that's a great insight and makes me feel a bit better about buying it now

  • Anywhere else it's available at this price?

Do Dell put these offers out regularly?

    • Do Dell put these offers out regularly?

This particular model has been out for this price about 6-7 times in the last 6 months, so I dare say you won't have to wait long to see it again.

      • Thanks. When I click link it's showing $399. How do I get it for $319?

        Thanks.

        • +2

when u get to payment screen, u need to select paypal and add promo code "CATCH20"

        • Thanks

  • Does this laptop use passive or active cooling? If it uses fan, is it loud with high cpu loading?

    • Passive only - it has no fans and is completely silent.

      • Thanks mate, big help.
