ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Credit Card - 60K Velocity Points + Complimentary Virgin Flights and 2 Lounge Pass $225 Annual Fee

1720

The ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card could take you across Australia with a complimentary return domestic flight with Virgin Australia each year you hold the card, when you spend $500 on eligible purchases in the first three months of approval. Plus, as an introductory offer, you could earn a bonus 60,000 Velocity Points when you spend your $500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months of approval.

Same as previous offer in November but different promo code.

Useful info from @illumination

Key info (mostly about the flight):
Must be booked 60 days prior to departure (quite a significant limitation)
Must be booked in your own name (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum)
Free flight includes East Coast cities to Perth return (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity, which includes PER-East Coast return but not vice versa) - these fares often go for $500+
Flight is on Virgin Australia and includes food/baggage
The 2 free VA lounge passes that this card comes with the free domestic flight
The flight is actually free. No taxes/surcharges need to be paid as long as there is availability
I think there is a $107 change fee just like with the Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum (but not sure how this works in relation to the 60 day minimum booking period rule)
Approximate availability can be found by looking for the same flight on VA's website and if they are selling the fare as a Saver fare, it is likely to be available for redemption
This card is the only AMEX card in the Australian market that both waives overseas transaction fees/forex fees. As an added bonus, you'll earn rewards points on these expenses (there are a few non-AMEX alternatives)
This card comes with a Visa card too. Use AMEX where it's accepted & not ridiculously surcharged to maximise points earn.

    • Yep. But just be mindful of excesses. I found credit card travel insurances have a high excess for many sections making small claims not worthwhile. Coughing up $250 is not so much a big deal when you have been rescued by a helicopter off a cliff.

1cover or travel insurance direct have worked for me in the past and they have the option to reduce the excess to $0.

Also note that you have to buy your flight through your credit card although it comes standard on your complimentary flight.

So it's a handy addition to the card as long as you are happy with the above.

"Also note that you have to buy your flight through your credit card although it comes standard on your complimentary flight"

Sorry mate but this isn't accurate.

As per the fine print/insurances booklet, you simply must:

        (e) used a participating card account before you went on your trip to purchase at least AUD$250* in total (inclusive of taxes and other charges) of:
        (i) transport costs (airfares and/or cruise); and/or
(ii) land content costs (tours, hire cars or other hired
        transport and accommodation);
for you and for your spouse and child who are on that trip with you.

In other words, if you've booked your flights already, as long as you use this card for a hotel or car hire and the cost exceeds $250 then youre eligible for the travel insurance

        • Handy info but I was referring to the original question,

Are the conditions basically, book your flights with us and you qualify?

If the only travel purchase made before departure is the flight, it will need to be made using the credit card to qualify for its complimentary travel insurance.

In other words, if you've booked your flights already, as long as you use this card for a hotel or car hire before you depart and the cost exceeds $250 then youre eligible for the travel insurance

    • So what happens if you have an amex platinum edge card which you've already purchased flights with later in the year? If you cancelled the edge and got ANZ rewards travel would it still count for insurance given that you purchased the flights on a different AMEX card?

      • No

      • -1

Amex should still honour it as you had insurance at the time of purchase.

*remember - Amex free flights don't come with travel insurance. You need to use another card with a minimum spend to activate (on a hotel etc).

        • Amex free flights don't come with travel insurance

I was told over the phone it does. Also stated here

        • @OldBugger: My pair of Amex platinum & platinum reserve certainly come with free insurance for free redemptions and also even for frequent flyer rewards.

        • Excellent link. I was told via the phone last year there was no cover for free flights. Good to know this isn't the case

  • Just confirming, so I could replace my AMEX card (its the AMEX issues no fee card) with this one and still be eligible for the AMEX offers? Or in order to gain access i would need some sort of manual direct link? ergo i should just sign up to this and keep my existing AMEX no annual fee card?

My wallet is getting fat on credit cards. #firstworldproblems

  • some times theres amex deals like shop small. will they be applicable if i get the anz travel card

      • how about the small shop campaign and the free trolley in domestic did u get?

        • +1

          @xdreamyst:
I got the $100 credit for my anz reward travel card from HN last year :D

  • I already have an AMEX Platinum Edge Card. Can I also sign up for this card and be eligible for the free flight and 60k velocity points?

My plan is to use my Amex Platinum Edge for points in Australia, and just sign up to this for the free flight each year and no international fees.

    • +1

      yes

  • Can someone please explain clause 6 in the PDS for the ANZ rewards program, specifically the bolded part. - https://www.anz.com.au/content/dam/anzcomau/documents/pdf/an…

"6. If you hold a participating card, you may earn Bonus
Reward Points by using your participating card or
participating card account to purchase qualifying
goods and services from a Bonus Partner, subject to
the limitations in clauses 5, 7 and 8. The number of
Bonus Reward Points you will receive from a Bonus
Partner will be specified on anzrewards.com. You
will not earn Bonus Reward Points for any purchase
of goods and services using a black card or
    adventures card.
    "

Will using this card for purchases stop me from receiving any worthwhile rewards?

  • Noooo I've just applied for the amex explorer card this week…
Can I apply for this as well?

  • Has anyone successfully booked the free flights associated with this card?

When logging on to the rewards site I can only see a place where you can exchange points for flights.

    • +1

I have. You have to call up to book flights

  • Can you set this up to automatically accrue either Virgin or Qantas points after? Or do you have to do a points conversion?

    Thanks!

    • +1

I'm not sure whether there's any automatic conversion to Velocity points but this card does not earn you Qantas points in any way, shape or form.

The sign-up points bonus with this card is that you get 60k Velocity points.

You can convert the points you earn through regular spend with this card to Velocity.

      • +1

To add to this, auto-redemption of the conversion from ANZ Rewards points -> VFF points can be setup online.

The auto conversion happens when you have accrued enough ANZ Reward points for the minimum amount of points (I.e. not based on time, like monthly)

        • What's the minimum conversion amount?

Currently with Citibank and it's 20k (10k VFF points), which is a PITA given I don't spend a huge amount (and their online portal sucks balls).

        • +1

          @Sir Casm:

          From https://anzrewards.com/public/redeem_ff_product.aspx?id=1654…

minimum transfer is 3,000 ANZ Reward Points for 1,500 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points.

        • +1

          @PBG:

Thanks mate, appreciated, that's excellent, time to change providers. As Citibank is free for life I'll maintain the account as it's a perpetual line of credit.

  • I know it's been mentioned several times that this has 60k velocity points included, but are you sure it hasn't been removed from the offer?
It's not mentioned anywhere on the page or in the T & c's.

    • +2

It actually says it under the first heading: 'as an introductory offer, you could earn a bonus 60,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points when you spend your $500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months of approval'

      • ahh yes I see now. Thanks. For some reason I went direct to the ANZ website instead of clicking on the link. Interesting that the same deal through the ANZ website is exactly the same as this one except for the 60k velocity pts.

  • Outstanding card. I'll be smashing points this year paying daycare with the Visa, easy $2k points a month. Was about to get the Virgin High Flyer but this card outshines in benefits.

  • Does anybody know if I apply for this card and spend the $500 in the first few weeks rather than the first 3 months, can I book the flight immediately or do I need to wait until the 3 month period is complete before I can book?

  • Does anyone know if there is a balance transfer offer with this card or the rate that applies?

  • How long did it take for people to get approval? I got an email asking for two payslips, so have sent that off just then…

  • +1

    Hi there,
I applied for these cards when there was promotion in November 2016
It took about 1 weeks to approve (I applied for the ANZ card 1st time)

Before I activated it, I called up ANZ to confirm that I was eligible for the 60K Velocity points promotion and the girl said "Yes" and I gave my Velocity number
I hit the "$500 eligible spent" within a several days
After 2nd statement, the velocity point added up automatically in my VFF acocunt. (no need to call them)

Please note that free return flights are quite limited
I called ANZ today to book for free flight from SYD to Cairns/hamilton island ….but again, the departure time they provided me was not I wanted "evening flight, arrived at 9pm to Cairns" and no available flight for hamilton island on the date that I wanted. It's a hassle.

Other than that, these cards are ok. I haven't used it oversea yet……..will use it in a few days' time.

  • Wondering if anyone with the card can clarify if the free return Virgin flights will score status credits.

I called ANZ and was told flights book into T fare class, which = Go fares. But some seem to think that T&C specified that no status credits will be earned for these flights…

I'm coming up 25 SC short this year for platinum status, so need to be sure I won't be wasting my time doing a status credit run on these flights if they're not going to earn me any SC…

    Many thanks

    • +1

If the Platinum Edge flight was anything to go by, it's hit and miss. Sometimes you would get status credits + Velocity points and sometimes you wouldn't and I don't know whether there's a sure way of knowing whether you'd get it or not. I'm not sure what subclass Platinum Edge flights were booked into.

    • +1

I just flew on my ANZ flight and received full flyer miles, status credits and eligible sectors.

However I think, as illumination says, it would be hit and miss so don't rely on it coming through

  • +1

Finally got my points today - got my cards and fulfilled the requirements in November.

Got a call earlier this week asking for my Velocity number (despite me calling them in December and confirming they had it on file already). I guess this was the trigger.

  • Does any one know if I can make a booking myself and add my son (less than 2yrs old) under the same complementary flight booking?

I have a platinum edge card as well I will use for my OH flight but I just have to time it right so I can get us all on the same flight.

  • Hi,

Can anyone confirm if bpay payments earn reward points? I learnt the hard way once after my CBA card excempt rewards points for bpay after paying a large bill :(

  • Is this a targeted promotion?

This offer is not available on ANZ website when credit card offers are browsed.
This offer is also not available in branch (verified earlier today at a branch)

Given that this is not available in ANZ's website (unless one specifically knows the campaign URL), can ANZ decline the 60,000 bonus offer stating this was a targeted offer and not available to everyone?

    • I got a lot of questions about where I had seen the promotion when I applied for the 40K ANZ deal last year. I just said I saw it in an ad - They keep replying that it's targeted and have been giving me the run around, and still no points after 4 months :(

When I originally applied, I got a call back from a guy who wanted more info from me - then he saw that I held the ANZ Black card, so he just transferred some of the limit from my Black card onto the new Adventures card. I asked at the time if I would still get the bonus points for the Adventures card and he said I definitely would, but now it seems I'm not so sure. ANZ doesn't seem to have the best reputation with this - they seem to bounce people back and forth between call centres for ages before you finally get through to someone that can "help".

      • Have you tried contacting the Financial Services Ombudsman?

        • Not yet, I was given a "solutions" person who was calling me a few weeks ago and said that he would call me again today/tomorrow if the points hadn't come through. If he doesn't though, I will definitely contact them. Thanks for the suggestion. I just don't know how much longer to give ANZ to sort it out themselves - They keep telling me to wait a bit longer, but it seems like they are just stalling and hoping I'll lose interest. Even my "solutions" guy on the phone sort of said he couldn't even see the points eligibility on my account and sort of said they weren't on the hook for the points because it was a "third party promotion".

So yeah, I think I'll call the Ombudsman tomorrow.

        • @elliebargain:

Do you have a screenshot shot of the original URL that advertised the bonus point offer?

        • @surm: Yes! Luckily I do so that should help a lot!

        • @elliebargain:

Can you let us know whether ANZ or the Ombudsman assisted you?

        • +2

@surm: I'll keep you posted. Just put a complaint in with ANZ and they said the points should have definitely gone through by now (despite someone else from ANZ earlier today saying it could take 6 statement cycles or 7 months - what a mess)

        • +1

@surm: Just got the bonus points. Making an official complaint with ANZ definitely helped. Thanks for the advice :)

        • +1

          @elliebargain:

          Thanks for updating us, elliebargain.

  • Nooo!

I went to apply for this today, and the link no longer works.

No mention of the 60k points anywhere on the ANZ website.

    • :(

I was just about finished reading every comment here before I applied… Been eyeing this card for the last 2 weeks TBH.

The link on this thread doesnt work anymore… (It worked earlier this morning even)

      :(

      • +1

        IT'S BACK UP!

  • +1

Deal expires on 15 Feb 2017, but you must be approved for the card prior to that date for the bonus points. (eta 2 - 5 days processing)

    • Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017

I think you only need to apply before that day. Does not need to be approved before that day.

      • +1

Point 2 of the T&C states:

Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017 and who make $500 of net eligible purchases within three months of approval. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice.

I wouldn't give them any wriggle room to not pay the bonus.

  • just got my cards today, will get anz internet banking and the cards activated tomorrow. But I need to make a decision on my ascent Amex points tonight so I can terminate my plat edge card. I have roughly 50k ascent points, which is 1:1 conversion to most FF programs out there. I'm now deciding between velocity, krisflyer or $300+ worth of Coles/Myers gift cards. I'll end up with 110k points together with the offer on these cards if I choose velocity, sounds good for the point collector, but I mostly travel on scoot which makes krisflyer a more practical option. Any advice appreciated!

  • Seems to be recent conflicting reports on whether targeted or not? Is the consensus that you will definitely get the 60k points?

    • +2

I clicked the link above and the 60k points were stated there. I took a screenshot. Also final page before you submit the application, it states something to the effect of "you are applying for the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure card with 60k Velocity Points". I took a screenshot of that too.

      • I did the same! Now I'm just waiting to get approved I guess. How did you go with your application?

        • We applied for my wife 48 hours ago, and still haven't heard anything. She's never held a CC before, which may be the issue. Hopefully she's approved soon, and then I'll cancel another card I hold and apply for this. Just don't want to lose the line of credit, as I'll need it shortly.

      • +1

        Thanks

      • hi sw00p, able to share that screenshot with us? Thanks!

  • Would I be eligible for the points? Just cancelled my ANZ Black Card that came with points previously…

    • According to T and C, yes, as long as you have not held this particular card before.

  • Does anyone know how long card approvals take? I applied and submitted docs 2 days ago and haven't received any further calls/emails from them… I want my card asap!

    • +3

I applied and got them in 3 days. The cards came even before the acceptance letters showed up. But I'm none too pleased about ANZ online banking. Activating the cards had me jumping through hoops then the Amex doesn't even show up in my account. Transactions are slow to appear even though credit has been deducted. ANZ has to take pointers from the other big 4 banks as far as online banking goes.

      • ANZ has some good product offerings, however their systems are terrible to deal with.

Any issues with ANZ rewards you have to post them a letter or FAX them as they do not have an email address for the rewards centre

        • and still my Amex card isn't showing up on my account page. My rewards page seems to be broken, with a "Record already exists" prompt each time i click on reward points.

        • @avexdevil: I get the same 'Record already exists' message each time I click on 'Reward points'. Have you already met your $500 spend?

        • @ilubbargains:

Not yet, but I want to link it up to my velocity account first, and the rewards point page seems to be the closest option. Even then, you would imagine that the rewards points page should be functional so I can see how many points I've accumulated so far.

        • +1

can;t believe this. ANZ sent me another pair of cards with just my middle name. lol, if not for the free flight and lounge passes, i wouldn't ever go near ANZ with a 10 foot pole.

  • HELP PLEASE
anyway i booked my flight and they emailed me them as far as i know i just wanted to know

also the email "Travel Document" <[email protected]>
    has a Booking ref:
but then also under ticket details has a E-ticket

do i need to print anything off, can i give the girl/guy at desk just my e-ticket number?
also can i add it to iPhone passbook/wallet app?

edit: does my flight include checked baggage/inside the plane(i hope you know what i mean)?

    • So many questions.

When is the flight? Today? Tomorrow? Surely there's a booking reference number you can use to log in to the Virgin website and check the status of the booking.

Also, you should be invited to check in 24-48 hours before the flight. I would encourage you to do that before heading to the airport.

    • +2

Lol u sound like it’s your first time booking air tickets online. This aren’t even ANZ virgin flight specific questions, these are really general travel questions.

Just bring your passport and head down to the counter and speak with a human person, if you have a booking, they just have to identify you.

Apart from that, bring your e-ticket if you want to do a self check-in.

Yes virgin economy flights include 20kg checkin, 10kg handcarry (with laptop) and a free meal (quality not assured)

  • Just wondering for supplement card do you get different number like Amex Amex or with same number with different names?

  • For some reason i discovered my history, i was clicking "https://applyonline.anz.com/dsr-cc/creditcards/apply?apptype=RTA&sourcecode_1=IWOI#!start" instead Sourcecode = DNKP, does that mean i won't eligible the point? should I cancel the card and apply again?

  • From my understanding of the T&Cs, if I applied by 15 Feb, I should be eligible for the bonus points even though I wasn't approved by 15 Feb?

"Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017 and who make $500 of net eligible purchases within three months of approval."

    • +1

I applied and was approved on 14th. Will let you know how I go with points

    • +2

I spoke and had it confirmed with an agent that to be eligible you only need to apply before the 15th.

      • +1

Thanks for letting me know :)
        Received approval on Monday.

      • what if i APPLIED last year July?

  • Did anyone get two queries recorded against their Experian (Credit Savvy) rating when applying for this card?
One query is recorded against the day I submitted the online application and the second on the day I was approved by ANZ. Both for the same amounts.
Are they considered duplicates, if so do I need to ask ANZ to remove one of the queries.
The second query recorded on the day I was approved lowered my Credit Savvy rating by 10 points :(
    Thanks
    :)

    • Yes, I noticed that as well.

      • checked mine, and i have a duplicate enquiry as well… will see if it drops out next month, if not have to contact anz to have the duplicate query removed

  • +1

Damn, I can't believe I missed this. Anyone have any idea if this offer will occur again in the near future?

    • They ran a 40K points deal before this one… I'd say chances are pretty high they'll run another promotion with this card fairly soon. That's a guess though.

  • +2

    Well .. that lasted long

Amex cards issued by ANZ gone by August …

  • I sent them email and they told me there is no bonus points attached with application. I have applied on the phone and operator told me it was applying with points…

  • hi there

just have a question, with the car rental excess,

does it mean i dont have to purchase the excess reduction form the car rental company?

really confuse about its policy with travel adventure card

    • +1

I think it means they will pay your excess up to $5000, so you don't need to purchase the excess reduction from the car rental company. Give them a call though - I called them a few times before an overseas holiday to verify a few things and they are super helpful :)

They also came through with the goods after Jetstar cancelled our flight back home from Queenstown and we had to stay there another two days (not that we minded tooooo much!). Once I submitted all our receipts I got a response within a couple of days and the money back very soon after. Great insurance product :)

  • How long did it take for the 60,000 bonus Velocity points to be appear against your account?

The consultant on the phone advised it me it can take up to 3 months to appear after meeting the required spend.

I noticed with the the 40k bonus points deal last year some people received them within a week of meeting the spend requirement.

Hopefully the points appear soon as I've linked my Velocity card and have received confirmation from a consultant that I have met the required spend. I have also paid off the entire balance and annual fee.

  • They told there is not 60K bonus attached with the card.. all they can offer is $160 and forget 60000 points

  • Does any body know whether their travel insurance includes domestic travel? i.e I am going to Sydney and want to hire a car and looks like there excess cover is good however the ANZ rep was unsure and kept bouncing me off to different departments.

    • Yes, it cover rental cover excess in Australia as long as you pay with the ANZ credit card. $350 is the initial excess amount to be paid in case of any claim which means you will get you claim amount minus $350.

      • Do you mind if I ask where you got that info from?

        • Card insurance doucument which you would have received along with card or available on the anz website.
