Noticed that Kogan have dropped the price again of the DJI Phantom 3 4K with Integrated UHD 4K Stabilised Camera to $799 instead of $999.

It does not come with a 64gb sd card like the previous deal but is a good but as the standard is around the $689 mark.

Mod: Updated to eBay link and CAU10 code to make it $733.49. Thanks to wreckedandjealous

You mean the OzBargain members with pitchforks..?

I would like to call a site wide vote to revoke your membership.

          @c0balt:

Even though its an aggressive approach, there is some truth in what he is saying.

I get irritated by the same thing, especially when it has been said many times before on 1st posts or in the actual posting guidelines: Starting Etiquette
New users shouldn't write I'm new, don't flame me etc.
For first time posters, it's best to avoid telling the community that you are new and asking them to take it easy on you. The “L-plate icon” will be shown to indicate if this is your first post.

Nethetheless, thanks for the contribution. Its a decent deal!

          @c0balt:

"Revoke membership" LMAO. Explain how my expression of frustration would warrant that?

Pardon me for wanting to maintain some semblance of order & lighten the load on the mods; for wanting to uphold and improve the (generally) high standard this community/visitors are accustomed to; for expressing frustration that the message still isn't gettinf through…

It is not onerous to expect new members to familiarise themselves with what's required to post a bargain, having such a theshold set acts as a filter to keep out the garbage that increasingly tries to pollute our beloved OzBargain.

It's what separates us from any run of the mill spamfest coupon site or Gumtree - but if that's what you want, please continue to try & suppress members who make meaningful contributions to this community…

        • Reminds me of the posts in Buy/Sell/Swap groups on FaecesBook where someone says Delete if Not Allowed. Well, how about reading the rules first before posting?

        • @Sir Casm: Get over yourself, princess…

        • @StewBalls:

Go & pretend to be JV somewhere else, and while you're at it, try posting a few deals for a change.

Yeah, you're right. Let's just allow everyone to post anything. Let's even get rid of the negative vote system so you can only vote positive. Then they'll be nothing but pages and pages of spam and advertising! Good idea!

        • +2

Let's just allow everyone to post anything.

OzBargain does. As long as it's an actual deal, is a market-leader in price, anyone is allowed to post anything.
Whether it gathers positive votes - that's up to the registered members to vote up if they think it's a good deal.

Let's even get rid of the negative vote system so you can only vote positive.

Contrary to popular belief, the negative voting system is supposed to highlight major issues with the deal.
The Negative Vote button is not a personal dislike button.
There's been plenty of negative button misuse lately.
If the deal does not apply to you or you don't think it's a deal, a no vote is the appropriate action.

Then they'll be nothing but pages and pages of spam and advertising! Good idea!

          Advertising?
Advertising a good deal? That's what OzBargain is about.
Posting without a deal that doesn't follow the posting guidelines? That's spam.
Don't lump the two together on OzBargain. They're very different, Orpheus.

It's because of ppl like JV.

        • No, pretty much just jv… ;)

No it's not every only a few they don't read the posting guidelines.

      This poster didn't have a problem (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285426)

Spot on mate, I don't have an issue with this deal, and, generally speaking, most L plate users.

  • +4

Haha yeah can be a little hostile, this is a good buy as I just purchased the standard version last week for $640 and wish I waited for this one, oh well

    • Same! Although, im extremely happy with my standard. Really easy to fly. Can upgrade to a better one in the future ;)

      • Yeah that's true

  • Argh, just bought a new RC car, was waiting for another sale on these.. might have to keep waiting :(

  • My understanding is that they are not making the 4k version any more for the Phantom 3,

  • Tempting! Going on a holiday in a fortnight and a drone would be put to good use.

    • It's got a selfie mode.

  • DJI has stopped their Phantom 3 line with the advent of P4Pro and Mavic Pro, while this is an ok price, I'd recommend Mavic over this for its portability. I know, they are different segments, just my 2c though.

    • +2

I own a Mavic and I go flying with a guy that has a P3 standard.

IMO the Mavic is not worth close to an extra $1000. In hindsight I should have saved that money and got the Mavic 2 where they will fix up the abysmal 1080p60 performance (hardware issue), add more sensors and a better controller that will have a way of outputting the signal. Most the faults I have with the Mavic don't exist in the Phantom line, but I really do like the portability..

      • Mavic sucks with 1080p60 because of its binning mechanism and I agree with that. I kinda think it has enough sensors without having to compromise battery life etc. By outputting signal, I assume you meant a HDMI output? yeah that's actually a bummer but it is supposed to support DJI goggles from what I know. In any case, can't challenge the portability right? I love mine!

        • +2

Oh I love mine too! I just think that for the price difference between them that the P3 has just as good if not better capability to dollar ratio.

I didn't know I wanted more sensors until the P4 Pro came out :P

It was a real bummer when I found out that binning mechanism, I was really looking forward to slow motion filming. It was advertised as having the same sensor and image quality as the P4 so I'm a little salty about that.

I really thought by now there would have been some hack to get video output to an external monitor. The controller eats my iPhone 6s battery (about 40% per flight yet the controller only loses about 15% so I think my phone is charging the controller) and I have a hard time seeing the screen in full bright sunlight.

There's some tablets out there like the Nvidia Shield which have HDMI output on the tablet - but that's an expensive work around and adds bulk.

We will probably be waiting forever for the DJI googles, so I'm hoping there's a way to output either the HDMI to a portable screen or even find a way to get composite video out for some old FPV goggles I have lying around. The DJI goggles will most likely be very expensive too.

I guess I could just put a separate FPV system on it for the goggles. Some of them are self contained, small, cheap, weigh close to nothing and would have 0 video lag at the cost of image quality. But that adds a point of failure that could take out a prop mid flight.

Will be interesting when they release the phantom 5 as well at some point

      • I appreciate that honest feedback. I had a P3A, but sold it in November to buy a Mavic. I've kinda 'ummed' and 'ahhed' waiting for the right price and stock availability. At this point, I'm thinking I might as well just hold out another 8 months till we have the Mavic 2.
Hopefully they learn from their shortcomings and have a decent amount of stock on release this time.

    • No, Phantom 3 standard continues to soldier on.

  • +1

Can somebody tell the difference between 4K and Professional?

  • +9

this is also currently listed on kogans ebay page for $815ish.
you can use the CAU10 code for 10% off, and get it for $733ish

    • That's cheap. Wish I waited

  • Could anyone tell me the rules and law where to fly this type of drone legally ? I looked up google and several websites just telling you cannot fly over residential area or populated areas. So it only allows people to fly in rural area ? Thanks.

      • Yeah thanks to these becoming more common and nanny state crap have given these a bad name. I was building these for video work 10 years ago (and models much older!), I had no real trouble getting certed for it but it's an annoy process

  • How many batteries?

  • I just lost my Phantom 2 vision plus at the vineyard in victoria. Should I get this or Mavic Pro?

    • I always recommend people get the Phantom 3 Advance or pro, instead of the P3 Standard or P34k.
It's really just a case of what you're prepared to pay though. The Mavic is better in every way, but there's still about a months wait for it just about everywhere. The P3 is about 1k cheaper, most places.

  • Anyone know where to buy genuine batteries under RRP for these?

    • Nope but I am looking as well

  • +1

The standard and 4k versions of this drone are terrible with signal loss. I started with a std from officeworks and the thing would drop the video feed at 100m away. Returned it and got the advanced. Tested it out to 3km. Could easily have gone further but wasn't brave enough lol. Night and day difference. The bitrate is too low for decent 4k anyway. Enter the P4 pro…

    • I have the Phantom 3 Standard and the latest 1.7x firmware finally resolves the range issues. Over Christmas I took mine to 380m (it's rated to 500m) based on the flight record, which to be honest is pushing my eyesight to see. Aussie regs state it has to remain in eyesight at all times. I manged to get some beautiful shots and had full FPS video the whole time. For the $650 I spent on it mid last year, I think the Standard is great (but it was crap before the firmware fix)!

      • +1

Interesting that they didn't fix the range issues until near the end of it's production life haha. good to know you're getting decent range out of it! After handling the Adv/Pro remote, I couldn't go back. So nice with the bigger battery and camera controls. The phone holder is so much nicer as well. Agreed the price on the standard is attractive. If it weren't for the $830 ebay bargain (15% off errything last year) I probably wouldn't have jumped for it.

        • I think their Dev teams were focused on getting the Mavic out… basically took them a year to resolve and they never officially admitted to the issues… It seems only the CE version (Aus and Europe) had problems and the FCC (USA etc) were fine… anyways, the P3 Standard will tie me over until the Mavic is cheaper or a new model comes out. The one catch with all models apart from the Mavic is you need a big carry bag/case to lug them around!

        • @squinly:

So how do check it has the latest firmware, sounds like I need to upgrade my one (have not flown it yet)

        • +2

@mantamuzza: Using the DJI Go App. Power on the drone, remote control, connect your phone to the drone wifi network, open the DJI Go app on your phone or table, the main white screen should prompt you for an upgrade in red. Else off the top of my head it's the button on the top right corner.

After updating it's recommended that you re-calibrate the compass and ICU (advanced settings in the app).

          Happy droning!

        • @squinly: Awesome thanks so much, and leave the props off for the setup I imagine

        • @mantamuzza:

sorry, delayed reply, yes I generally leave the props off until I'm ready to fly, but the process above including re-calibrating doesn't activate them. They might shake but don't start spinning!

sometimes the camera gimbal has a little freak out which doesn't stop after the update is finished. So after it's complete, I normally power down everything and fire it all back up before calibrating.

  • Is this deal still on? Price I see see on Kogan's eBay is around $1018.

  • Deal gone, but remember these are the 'standard' models that run on basic WiFi for connectivity. So offer very reduced flight distance and usability compared to the Advanced/Pro models.

I'd go the Advanced and HD camera, as 4K isn't worth it the loss in functionality.

    • +3

I purchased the standard just to learn the ropes and will hopefully upgrade to the Mavic later this year

      • The standard is a different beast, but flies relatively the same as the ADV/PRO. But is more prone to interference and has a severely limited range.

But if you are getting a Mavic, should have just gone straight to that one, and save the waste of money on the StD.

        • Yeah wont get a Mavic for a while and just wanted to see if I like quads (as I fly RC planes mostly)

  • Might start seeing the phantom 4 dropping (not pro) as this was just also discontinued by DJI.

  • Bought 3 weeks ago when it was 799 with free 65gig memory card.
I'm actually super happy with the P3 4k. Have got beautiful pictures from it so far. And the 4k loooks amazing. Iv taken it 700 meters distance and haven't experienced any loss of signal on screen or from remote. As stated above you must keep it in line of sight and that's about when I can't see it anymore haha.
Highly recommend buying this over a p4 of money is an issue. My mate bought a p4 and we go flying together. I get about 4/5 minutes extra flight time. And it's half the price what he payed
