No Fee (Save $5.95) on $88 EFTPOS Cards in Woolworths (In-Store Only)

1290

Was in Woolworths, Marden, today and saw the gift card stand decorated with banners that said no fees (save $5.95) on $88 eftpos cards. All I know is that it said that the card is accepted wherever eftpos is accepted.

Was too lazy to find out the expiry date…

Checked online and no sign of the deal or the card…so just an in-store thing…

Main attraction is the ability to consolidate your wish/dan murphy cards into these to extend expiry AND increase versatility (need to use self checkout machines)…thanks to "Turd"

One tip for you, just scan all the cards at self-checkout and use your wishcards to pay for the total amount. Then, the system will automatically activate all the cards, so you don't have to buy and activate the cards one by one, it's very time consuming.

    • +3

Max 5 cards or $500 at self checkout.

      • Oh, I bought 4 in one spot. Will try 5 in the next 2 hours as I am waiting for the wishcards from CashReward.

  • Just bought 2 and spent the dan murphys credit from the deal on Jan 3rd. No points, but no problems either. Didnt bother with self checkout, went to a manned counter and she was happy to have it all done. My store had a good number of cards left.

Thanks Turd for the quality deal.

    • Turd? Isn't that superready?

      • Ya but I did a lot or most of the commenting/helping :)

Just get a Macquarie bank account by referral and you will win even more!

      • Oh dear, thanks for correcting me… Thanks to OP superready :)

And thanks to turd for being the voluntary spokesperson for this deal!

  • With Cashrewards, how much do you spend to get even number in $ of cards $88cards?

    • +1

      88 x 0.95 = $83.60
So in the woolworths portal say you want to purchase 88 worth of egift, the checkout will charge you 83.60
Use 88 egift to pay for the 88 eftpos, use the 88 eftpos elsewhere :)

  • -1

just got the last 6 at my local store

    thanks OP

  • Just went to the Wollies in QV Melbourne. All sold out, whole area of the gift card section was bare (assuming this was where these gift cards were located). Went to a few of the Metro stores nearby, none stock them or were also all sold out.

  • Can you pay via Vpay?

    eDIT: NO

    • +1

      Buy eGC with VPAY first.

      • eGC from where?

        • +1

Here are 4 long running deals.Pick whichever you prefer.

        • @Neoika: Nope it will not accept my Vpay as payment for EGC via cashrewards……is the exact amount required?
          ie vpay $150 = $150 egc?
I know that $150 vpay for $400 eGC will not work….wanted to used multiple cards….

EDIT: It works with exact amount!!!!!

        • @PLANT: For a $300 value VPAY voucher, when you buy 5%off eGC,customise the amount to $315.79(300/0.95) to spend the whole amount.

        • +3

          @Neoika: Yep did that…appreciate the info….AMEX—->HN—->Vpay—->eGC——>Eftpos ;)

        • @PLANT: Nice work. Save ur Eftpos for next round of Coles/Woolies gift card sale :)

  • Thanks. Bought 5 this morning at Melbourne QV mainly to meet minimum Amex spending requirements. They were all gone when I went back at 1pm.
Can anyone advise whether these can be used to pay a utility bill or tax bill or Commbank credit card bill at the post office, either over the counter or using the self service machines?
Does anyone know if Woolworths will replenish stock?

  • +2

went to highpoint and grab about 16 (8 each, me and my friend) done via self checkout, and only managed to scan max 5.. supervisor not very happy that we bought 8 each.btw, remember to check the extra receipt for the gift card to ensure the number matched the giftcard no, as i got 1 card not matching, so have to get it refunded…

  • All gone, it is hard to find card now.

    • Able to share where you looked?

      • I checked several stores in sydney city.

As for four local stores, someone said there was no card any more as previous post.

  • +1

Good deal. I have a Platinum Edge card (3 times points at Supermarkets) currently giving me 2 bonus points till end of Jan. Picked up 10 cards, netting me 4400 bonus bonus, which will convert to over 5000 Velocity points next time there's a promo. I can spend these cards at Aldi with no surcharge, so the hassle is well worth it - 5000 bonus is over half the number needed to get to Sydney.

    • +1

I got that 2 bonus points offered to me too, but on a different card (I wish it was on the Edge!)

Did you also have a limit of 10k bonus points over the promotional period imposed?

      • +1

Yes I did, already got the bonuses , now I'm just playing with being local champion

      • Probably have the limit, but won't have put more than $5k on it in that time.

    • How do you see this offer? Is it sent to your email? Or is it under Offers when you login?

      • They send it in the mail

        • you mean snail mail? I don't receive any letter from Amex, do you need to do something to activate it?

        • @samehada: No idea. I just got it in the mail randonmly…

        • @samehada: Snail mail letter. They didn't send it for my other Amex cards, so I'm guessing it was because I wasn't spending much on my Platinum Edge.

      • Personally I got mine by email

  • Still plenty at my woolies, there is/was never a banner that said no fee… guess thats why they've havent been bought out

  • So you can buy 5 in one transaction and pay $440? Some gc deals before you had to do one at a time.

  • +1

Got 35 cards in the bag. Cracking deal, sensational! 🐶

    • @Fusakin
      Wow that is $3080.
Did you them in 5 cards lots?
      Any comments/queries from staff?

      • Had around 8 * $333 and 10 * $50 Dan Murphy eGift cards from previous AmEx offers so I went all out. Self-checkout machine would only accept five cards at a time. Had no issues processing one lot after another.

    • Only 35? I still haven't counted how many I bought…lol… Lost count now ;) ozbargain is too slow this time. Someone has mentioned this deal on a Chinese forum last week but I couldn't verify it because I don't have the catalogue at that time. I emptied a few shelves this morning.

      • Aren't the staff asking questions for so many cards?
Did you do them in 5 cards lots and pay with a egiftcard?

      • I'm contemplating whether to get more. 😂

        • @samehada: Thanks for the offer but there's still heaps at my local Woolies. 😀

  • So…. should we call these "cock cards"? :p

  • How could I pls check the balance on this cards?

  • It is a pity the cards cannot be used online. EFTPOS is only at the shops.
And cannot use at the post office to pay bills/registration because they are only $88 and they told me you can only use one card then the balance cash.
Same at Aldi, only one card then the balance cash.

    • At least with Aldi you can choose to only buy $88 worth of groceries. You can't really do that with most bills at the post office.

  • These people buying hundreds of cards must have their own eftpos terminal. I can't imagine how an ordinary person can use up so many cards.

    • +2

Living costs are expensive. Can't afford my smashed avocado without these.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get the egiftcards emailed through the entertainment book?
    Is it immediate?

    • A couple of hours usually.

      • Thanks.
I wonder if that would apply today being public holiday.
If it takes 2 hours I guess it is not automated so unless they process it overseas it may take to tomorrow?

        • Got mine in 1hr39mins, ordered this morning. Sometimes depends on the amount you have purchased and if you have ordered before.

        • Depends on how much you ordered

    • i just ordered via entertainment book at 1030am and got it few minutes ago..so approx 2 hours..

      • Thank you annielee! :-)
        Great!

  • About a dozen left at Abbotsford VIC store at 1:30pm

  • One of store I visit, once you scan the cards, system do not give discount $5.95 immediately. So I bought 30 cards, and the manager manually refund the differences back to me.

Other store the system immediately discount it.

Managed to score 88 cards in total ( yesterday and today ).

    • thats a lot ! i only managed to get 20..

      • +1

Seems like most ozbargainer do not lives around sydney south west. Hahaha.

    • Poor the manager

  • Questions:

Is there paywave on this? Or is it pin?

Also, how do you ensure that you'd use all of it either in one hit or several go? Like what if you end up with some weird balance after using it once, how do you then use the remaining balance then lol.

    • +1

No paywave, it's old school magnetic stripe swipe and PIN.

I use up small balances via split payments at self-service checkouts. Balance check is available online.

  • Thanks for posting, purchased 7 at my local. Still plenty left - probably about 50.

  • +1

Thanks, these are great for shopping at Aldi while still earning 4 points (3 + 1 for local champion) per $1 with my Amex Platinum Edge.
Plenty left at the woolies down the road, only got 5 but will probably grab some more!

  • Visited 2 stores and both had prominent signs saying do not use self-service to buy gift cards. Signs were at the self-service registrars and at the gift-card shelf.

Other than that, plenty of stock around, at least 30+ cards available at each store.

    • Which stores is this? What are they trying to do this for?

      • Stop fraud

        • CC fraud?

        • @JIMB0: yes

    • Did you still try to use the self-service registers successfully?

      • No, didn't try, but comments here suggest it would still work.

  • Hi,

Does anyone know if you can use this card to pay credit card bills?

    In AMEX website it says
    "
You can make payments in person at any Australia Post Office. Simply take your cash or cheque with you…….//…….
you will be charged a $3 handling fee."

I wonder if "cash" include EFTPOS
    cards.

    Thanks a lot.

    • $3 per $88 is making it very bad

      • I agree with you, but just curious.
Will ask the post office today.

        Cheers.

        • Don't ask, just try it, say u wanna pay 88 bucks via eftpos

        • @Turd:

I just realise it's probably too much trouble to do so.

          To pay in person, a
"current posted Card Account statement" is also needed. I have neither the paper statements nor a printer. :(

Edit : just remember I can turn off "paperless setting" in order to receive paper statements. But I won't do that.

  • +1

No one seems to be buying these in Western Australia. Been to three woolies and all have heaps left

  • Checked up with my local post office. They will only accept multiple eftpos cards for purchases. Not for paying bills or purchasing money orders. Someone must have a god idea for getting the cash out of these.

    • I found that it can be used to buy a giftcard from Coles without issue (when specifically mentioning it as method of payment) - see my comment.

So maybe using an EFTPos card is not considered "buying giftcard with giftcard", which is sometimes objected to by the stores.

I assume the same is true at Woolworths as well. Sure, mine is just one experience, I did not come across any other OzBargainers' comments of their experience doing this. If others have a different experience, please share. Thanks.

    • any selfserve at your postoffice ? used about 10 cards today to pay my 'future utility bills', no issue at all, but just taking more time and effort…

      • +1

I've never seen a self serve at the post office? I'll have a look.

        • not sure where you are located, but most (not all) post office at melbourne cbd got selfserve..

      • Have you tried paying a credit card bill like this?

        • i did try using $88 for a credit card bill but unsure whether any fees will be slapped or not..will wait till the payment is clear on Monday..

        • @annielee:
Thanks. Since internet banking I really don't go to the post office. I'll get out and have a look around.

      • @annielee If your bill is say $200, I assume the self check out let you pay using 3 cards ie 2 x $88 and balance of $24 ?

        • yes, you are right..

    • +1

Depending on your state, I believe you can make cash withdrawals at gaming venues using EFTPOS. An "ATM fee" usually applies, and the $88 value on these cards may be problematic. You can also deposit into a TAB account via EFTPOS at any outlet without fees. For some, TAB account is as good as cash, where you can make cash withdrawals or transfer EFT to a bank account. However, at high volumes/value you run the risk of being investigated for money laundering.

    • +2

I just paid a bill today at my local PO and they allowed split payment using multiple EFTPOS cards. Also worked at my other local PO.

      • Thanks, this is great news. I've got a bunch of utilities bill coming up and I'd like to pay them at the PO.

      • -1

Mine must be just a pack of lazy a**holes.

  • nothing available in Woolworths EASTGARDENS, sigh

  • +1

Well when I first saw this deal I didn't think k it was very good so I only bought 1.

    Changed my mind this morning.
Expected there to be none left.
Just spent 30mins and bought 100 of them!!
    Still about 200 left.
Must be my area that no one cares about them!

    • 100?!!! Did u self serve or go through checkout???

      • Self serve. Took about 30 mins

        • I could only do 15 coz there's a 6 card limit at self serve and the staff was staring at me as I was ringing it up like I was dodgy or something! I was waiting for them to say no gift card to buy gift card!!

        • @fatming: No Soup For You!
