          @Scrooge McDuck: +30 is hard to get…..

        • @Turd:

though you're almost up to 30 referrals based on other posts…
getting closer to that sydney real estate ;)

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

Well that didn't work at all!

Ended up going with Eltjewati, thank you.

        • @SBOB: LOL one step closer! But by that time prices would have risen again!!! DOH!!!

Used your promo code - That's your second place prize ;)

      • Thank you!

        • Hey could you please let me know how we find our own personal referral link? Where is it once you log in?

        • +1

@Prevenge: You can't. I received mine via gmail.

        • @Prevenge: You must go into your time machine to 10//10/2016 then sign up to the brain sourcing bank account - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269799

Once that is done and do the steps involved. wait 2 months or take your time machine to 25/01/2017 and find your referral link in your email.

An easier way is to tell your friends use one of the referral links from the referral wiki https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

Since you are at it might as well travel back in time to 1995 and buy up all the Sydney house properties!! :)

    Link doesn't work for me

  • +3

    Ah nothing for existing customers?

    • Banks, Nothing, Existing Customers is a common theme it seems. We're looking at our options for moving away from Macquarie currently

    • +6

What do you mean? Existing customers get $40 when they refer their friends. Wouldnt call it nothing.!?

Refer 1000 friends get $40k free!

For you to be eligible for the $40 reward, you must:

        • Open a Macquarie Platinum Transaction Account between 12:00am 25 January 2017 and 11:59pm 31 March 2017 using unique referral link.
        • Not have held a transaction account with Macquarie prior to 24 January 2017.

It sounds like if you're already a customer prior to yesterday, then you get nothing?

      • I didn't get any referral link or promotional email. :(

        • Did you take part in the brain sourcing thing?

        • +1

@Turd: No I missed out on that too. Like I said, nothing for existing customers.

  • I would like to post my referral code too!

    • any idea how to find your referral code?

      • an email just got sent out

      • For existing users we just got ours.

        • +1

Oh, so new users can't refer their friends? I just joined up last night and used your referral ;)

Does that mean I can't refer myself if I'm brand new?

        • +1

          @Prevenge: thank you.

That's right, if ur friends want 40 u need to use the wiki referral links

        • +1

          @Turd:

Thanks for the reply, I ended up reading the entire thread and that is what I figured.

Nice work answering heaps of questions in this thread by the way. I've given my friends your referral link as you've earned it :D

        • @Prevenge: thank you!

        • +2

          @Prevenge:

Nice work answering heaps of questions in this thread by the way.

err thats how referrals work. People with referral link (or original poster of referral deal) would trip over themselves trying to help people so as to get more exposure and $$$ from their link being used.

This stuff should be in our curriculum.

        • @payton:

yeah, at $40 a question its a pretty good pay rate ;)

        • @SBOB:
And the answers are already in the comment thread, just need to post a link to it!

  • So with this account, do we need to keep depositing $4000 per month to receive the free ATM access and other perks?

    • Nope. It says in the description and also confirm from the email that I received from Macq bank.

"automatically get upgraded to the Platinum Transaction Account, without the need to deposit $4,000 per month"

I also have mine where I don't need to deposit $4000 a month and looks all okay

    • clean your glasses!

" without the need to deposit $4,000 per month. Just spend more than $250 in the first 30 days using your new debit card. "

      • Where's description showing on the Macquarie Bank website saying without the need of $4k deposit each month?

I had tried to looked around, but I really can't find any details about the $4k free deposit.

        • You have to go through a referral link.

        • +1

          @ilikeradiohead:

I had already signed up. But during the stage by stage process I didn't get to see any details mentioning the $4k free deposit.

After I received confirmation emails from Mac bank there still nothing mentioning about the $4k free deposit. That's why I want to see where's they mentioning it.

    • +9

I just called Macquarie and they confirmed that after the first month you'll need to continue to deposit $4,000 to retain the features.

Your card will remain the same and in any month you do make the $4,000 deposit those features will be reactivated for that month.

Confusing, they didn't make this clear in the promo.

They confirmed that the Promo was only in relation to the $40 not having permanent platinum.

      • Maybe they do not know about the offer?

        Since it says:

Open a Platinum Transaction Account before 31 March using the button below. As part of this offer you'll be automatically upgraded to the Platinum Transaction Account, without the need to deposit $4,000 per month.

        • +1

He did seem to be familiar to it, but it's hard to accept his answer when the information in the offer is so clear! Haha

We'll have to wait and see I guess

        • +1

@Joe146: Yep. I was surprised and skeptical about the $50 brain sourcing one but I got the $50 afterwards too!

  • +1

What other benefits does a "platinum" account holder have other than no deposit requirement?

    • +4

$0 fee for international transactions is definitely a big benefit

      • Do you know how their rate compares to the citibank Visa?

        • Similar but rates are from MasterCard rather than Visa.

        • @lolcoaster: isn't Citibank changing over to MasterCard ? So probably same rate.

  • +2

I have used this card a lot overseas since getting it as part of their trial program. I would say I prefer this card then the 28Degrees card that I have as I get instant notification on my phone on how much I got charged in AUD. Unlike 28Degrees card which I generally have to wait few days.

    • is it better than the Bankwest one, which also has free travel insurance?

      • Nope not from a Travel Insurance point of view at least, because this doesn't come with Travel Insurance.

It's better for other things though.. such as being able to withdraw from any ATM in Australia for free.

    • +2

Have you ever used the Citibank Plus account? That's the same (i.e. you can see instantly how much in AUD you've been charged)

      • It used to never show, now it shows so it's not too bad

      • How do you see pending charges with citibank? I can never see them until they clear

        • Hmm not sure about that - but what I mean is you can tell because if say your balance was $1000 and you've just made a transaction, you can see instantly the amount that is deducted because if your transaction converts to $100.55 AUD, your remaining balance will be $899.45 AUD ($1000 less $100.55)

    • +1

Do you get a better exchange rate than 28 degrees?

    • How long have you had the card for?

  • +3

    FREE MONEY GUYS!! LIFE HACKS101!

    • +1

Used your referral code when I signed up :)

      • ;) Thank you

        • I didn't really think about it until I saw your comment haha, those $0 ATM fees really appeal to me!

        • @doweyy: hahahahaha Save $5 here $10 here soon you can own Sydney property!!

        • @Turd: Or, you know, find a higher paying job? :P

        • @Munki: or you know move out of Sydney? haha

        • +2

        • @abc: Is there superfast NBN there? if so they as a profesional ozbargainer it will be perfect!

  • Is this deal the same as the referral deal without the need for a referral link?

    • +1

You need the referral link in the wiki, click on that to get the $40

  • +2

The OP should note that to get $40 you must go through the referral system via the wiki.

    • Done.

  • $0 fee for international transaction is good enough excuse to get one, done!

    • you must use referral link to get the $40

      • i did, i picked one to click on and when i got to the website it tells me who referred me.

        • Cool!!

  • +1

    Quick easy sign up.

    • And it's open!

  • +4

More than opening a bank account, you’re about to receive something unique: a banking experience using the same technology as Netflix.

What?!? Can I stream House of Cards?

    • +3

You buy a house with cards if enough referrals get clicked on. ;)

    • Hahaha, noticed that too. Maybe a lot of buffering if you don't have enough cash flow?

  • +2

Imagine 1000 people clicked on your referal link. that's $40,000 dollars free??!! OMGZZZZZZZZ that's like half a house deposit or 1/4 of.

    • Surely there's a max…

      • There is 5000 people.

In the email it says "Get in quick though as this offer is only available for the first 5,000 new accounts."

        • +1

How would you know if you are among the first 5000?

  • hmm already have a Citibank Plus transaction account. wondering if it's still worth it with the one or two extra perks.

    • +1

      Free $40? No brainer.

    • Im not sure about how dealing with macquarie is like, but I found the citibank plus app complete garbage, and this one seems much better, so it has another PLUS there.

      • +1

        Online website is great!

      • +1

The website and app are one of the best around.

        Citi is terrible I agree

  • So this could be effectively another citibank plus?

    • Yes

    • except that international ATM withdrawals cost $5.

      • Ah, so not at all like the Citibank Plus, as that's the only useful feature of Citi. Overseas purchases (rather than cash out) belong on the 28 Degrees or BankWest Platinum Zero for interest free days.
