should press CR so it activate Mastercard Zero Liability protection against fraud and any ohter unauthorised purchases.

      • So your hoping the fraudster presses credit and not CHQ/SAV when they scam your card.

        • +1

Cannot influence what fraudster having your card will do, but if using yourself, pressing CR provides chargeback possibility, if purchase turns out to be not as described.

    @Bargain4U $40 coming your way

    • +1

      Thank you Sir/Madam! :)

  • +1

I have to say I'm very impressed with the app and backend services. No sooner than I had done a tap transaction I got a push notification on my phone with the amount and payee.

  • +25

Rang them up. A good sign, polite and helpful support, although the 1st level cust personnel could not help with everything, she helped as much, then transferred me to 2nd level "specialist" to help with the rest. Sure, this is my first interaction, but so far so good.

Here are some things I found out, so thought I will share:

    • I wanted assurance the deposit exemption ($4000) is ongoing, not just first month. Apparently, this Platinum account currently does not require the $4000 deposit, irrespective of how you sign up. They haven't decided to enforce this for the account.

    • Since I noticed a good feature - i.e. you can pay directly from Savings account to external account, without having transfered to Transaction account first, I asked her if I can Direct Debit from Savings account as well. Good news, you can! (Have been looking for a savings account that allows this, so this is +1 for the account).

    • The $40 bonus will be deposited about 60 days from the $250 spend.

    • I asked about what constitutes acceptable spend for the bonus. She told me these are ruled out: ATM withdrawal, pay anyone. I specifically asked about BPAY. Although she looked into conditions and said BPAY was not ruled out, so should be fine, personally, I will not risk it by doing a BPAY from the Transaction account (the reason BPAY only requires biller and reference). I will, as someone said above, either (a) buy something with it, or (b) pay a bill where I have to specifically provide the Debit Card number (see Mcz's comment).

    • Max transfer limit per day is 20K, cut-off time is 5pm. If a higher limit is needed, one can call, and they will raise the temporary limit for the day.

    • Relevant for those contemplating this as a long term account. I asked how the interest tiers in Savings account applies, once 4-month introductory period is over. Does the interest rate in a tier applies to the entire balance, or will the first 25K get 1.3%, then funds after that get 2.3%. Was told it applies to entire balance. E.g. if balance is over 25K, the entire balance will get 2.3%. Not the best rate, but still useful for Direct Debit, free foreign fees etc.

    Hope this info is helpful.

    • +2

      cheers mate good stuff.

    • +4

That's interesting since it appears to be in direct contrast to their website which says:

Each standard stepped variable rate applies to the portion of the total balance that falls within that balance bracket.

      • Well spotted! Thanks. The specialist must have got it wrong. The wording seems pretty clear. 1.3% is pretty low. I will probably still keep it, but won't be leaving much money in the account.

    • +1

Thanks. I was wondering about BPAY as well. Seems questionable so I'll try to make $250 in purchases.

      • I used mine to pay an insurance bill, by going to insurer's site, and paying by credit card. Did not want to risk BPAY, which is what I will normally do for this.

  • +1

Sorry but I couldn't find any prints

When can I expect $40 after $250 spends? Thanks

Just saw it, sorry, 60 days after

    • 60 days after meeting the spend requirements?

  • Jumped on this deal, thanks OP!

Looking at their Savings Accounts, currently with ANZ at 1.25%. Mac has 1.30% and 2.65% for first 4 months.

Anyone have any experience with Mac as their "primary" bank?

    Hi Guys,
Just wanted to make you all aware that Macquarie is not the safest bank to be with. Once i signed up with them through this offer, someone stole the card they sent me and tried to activate it. I got an sms and an email notifying me about an inquiry i made about my account (which i did not as I was waiting for the card to arrive).

I called up Macquarie straight away and informed them of this and told them to investigate. They said they would, two days later they called me up to inform me that someone has successfully changed my mobile and email address for the account and that they are concerned. How can they allow someone to change the details while an investigation is ongoing.

Get the $40 dollars and get out.

If you are not aware of their history with fraud read the article below

    http://www.smh.com.au/business/banking-and-finance/identity-…

So SOMEONE got the letter from your mail box?

Sounds like Australia Post might be in a scam where post people are stealing letters and packages! :o

Avoid using a mail box and maybe invest in a PO Box? The area you live in might have thieves or scammers

      • Yep, same thing happened to me with the recent NAB credit card offer posted here. Did not receive card, all my accounts now blocked, now I have been through 2 weeks of trying to prove who I am with the bank to confirm my ID, even though I have been a customer with them for years.

        • That sucks!!! Use a PO Box I say. Or move to a safer area with less crime, but then price of rent homes will be higher. :|

        • i wonder if these scammers are active on ozbargain and phishing us

        • +1

@beohs: To steal someone's Card you must, live close to the target and/or be a postman or work in the postal organisation where the CEO makes 5.8Million and doesnt care about the small people.

      • Funny thing is I have been at this address for the past 5 years and never had anything pinched from the mailbox. But yeah, getting a PO Box now and signing up for Veda reporting to avoid this in the future.

        • +1

Times have changed… People get desperate etc… Cost of living in Australia is high thus the looting/scamming.

Does anyone know putting money into Coles reloadable card from Macquarie debit card valid purchase?

    • +2

Yes valid, since it will be going via the VISA/Mastercard nextwork and treated as a PUR. :) I did it with the ANZ one when I had like $2 remaining on it.

      • Thanks. Transaction shows as coles online services hawthorn. Hope they dont deny this as valid purchase as we can cash out from coles reloadable card.

Earlier i was thinking to buys cards from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290123
        But this seemed better option.

        • It should apply. Because they do not know what product you purchased from Coels Online Services. :)

Enjoy your free money! Dont forget to get others and friends into it!! Sign one up for family members etc… use referal wiki :) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

You can cashout at ATM too from Coles!! Just dont do it too often otherwise Indue (Representing Coles) will email you asking to verify the top-ups and where it came from. a bit PITA, but yeah

        • @Turd: Hey Turd, do you know if cashout is a valid way to achieve the $250 spend required for the $40 bonus?

I can't see any other comments pointing in that direction, so hoping that's what you mean in your post above.

          TIA!

        • @Master Baiter: Dont think so. It says purcahses. so must be purchases instead of cash out, the Transferal to Coles card is a purchase not a cashout.

        • @Master Baiter: ATM withdrawal was specifically excluded from the methods to spend the $250, in the conversation I had with Macquarie, see comment. Hope this helps.

        • +1

@bluesky: Yep, I saw your very informative post, thanks.

I thought cashout might be different to an ATM withdrawal for some reason.

        • @Turd: I'm just wondering how would a purchase+cash out at Coles show up? Would it show up separately as a single purchase transaction?

        • @Redwood: don't quote me but…
If you do purchase and cash out it would count as a eftpos purchase and not go through the MasterCard network.

That's just my guess. Can be wrong.

        • @Turd: And if it's an eftpos purchase it won't go through the requirement of "using new Macquarie Platinum debit MasterCard"?

        • @Redwood: afaik it won't? Since eftpos and MasterCard debit are two different systems?

That's my understanding, but I could be wrong!

        • @Turd: I'm not sure. Is the option of credit given when trying to do a cash out+purchase at all?

        • +1

@Redwood: don't think cash out is credit. Thus I think it is EFTPOS

  • how do we get a referral link?

    • +1

The referral link comes from users who took part in brain sourcing program 3-4 months ago.

If you need your friends to get on it to get free money get them to click on one of the referral links in wiki

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

      Another method…

You must go into your time machine to 10//10/2016 then sign up to the brain sourcing bank account - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269799
Once that is done and do the steps involved. wait 2 months or take your time machine to 25/01/2017 and find your referral link in your email.
Since you are at it might as well travel back in time to 1995 and buy up all the Sydney house properties!! :)

  • Anyone have issues seeing their transaction history?

I put $500 in the new account I made, made 2 small purchases using paywave which show up and a large purchase via PostPay (credit card) which doesn't, when I look at the transaction history, but the available balance reflects the correct amount

The purchase was made 10 days ago so definitely should have been fully processed by now I would have though

    • Yeah some transactions take a while to appear in the history, and not just Macquarie, happens with ING too. Strange as you get an immediate push notification of tap transactions.

      • well hopefully it shows up, as thats the transaction I was doing for the $40 :)

  • How soon can we expect to get $40? I satisfied all of the conditions. Thanks.

    • +2

The $40 bonus will be deposited about 60 days from the $250 spend.

  • +1

Got my card today. Will I Likely get my own referral link emailed to me? My partner would like to sign up as well, but obviously it would be better if he referred to me rather than an ozbargain random ;) I've already shared the love with a random from the list (Enjoy the $40 Julian).

    • No you can not get your own link unless you took part in the brain sourcing program 3-4 months ago.

If you need your friends to get on it to get free money get them to click on one of the referral links in wiki

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

      • Thanks Turd. Sadly my Time Machine is in the shop so I'll just use a random from the list for my partner.

        • Yes a "random" :)

Same I wish I have a Time Machine!

  • Still didnt receive bank card. Very strange.

    • +1

If it has been a while since your application, best to give them a ring.

    • Strange, usually it is sent pretty quickly, perhaps it is lost in the Australia Postal system?

      • Thanks. I have reported the issue last week. Just realised i missed the 30 day deadline due to the fact that I never received the card. I deposited $300 3/4 weeks ago. I will be pretty shocked if Macquarie wont honor the deal, given that it wasn't my fault.

        • Email them make sure they can confirm your bonus

  • +2

Just letting everyone know those who opened their account on the 25th of Jan, that 24th of Feb was 30days after the account creation, and you should have spent the 250 by then to get this 40 bucks. If you haven't done so please do it asap.

Pay a water bill or electricity bill or buy gift cards from Coles or cashrewards for woolies

  • So let's see who is the first to report receiving the $40

    • I check account every day no $40 yet :( Another 30-40 days to wait.

  • spent my $250 bucks overseas so hopefully that counts. it should also be noted that the $0 ATM withdrawal fees only apply in Australia. If you withdraw cash overseas you will incur a $5 fee as well as the local ATM fee. Used it in Fiji and got stung quite badly with fees :(

    • +1

yeah should be counted since it is via the VISA/MC network so you will be fine.

  • Thanks, Superbad, use ur referral link

  • +1

Sorry, wrong typing, it is superbass. Thanks , superbass, use your referral link. Just find the typing mistake today.

    • wow! Thank you!

I check account every day no $40 yet :( Another 21 days to wait.

    • Keep us updated! :)

  • If anyone's interested my $40 came through today. I spent $250+ on the 7th of Feb so it took about a month for me.

  • My $40 just posted - finished spending on 28th Jan

  • how do we open up an account now without the referral wiki?

    • Grey box at the bottom of the description marked Referral Links, click on "random".

      • I'm wondering why stage 2 still shows up as saying "enjoy platinum benefits by depositing $4,000 per month"?

        • Not sure what you're doing, I just clicked on "random" and on the page it opened it says: "Open a Platinum Transaction Account before 31 March using the button below. As part of this offer you'll be automatically upgraded to the Platinum Transaction Account, without the need to deposit $4,000 per month."

  • My $40 credited in account. Profit…

  • Received my money today.

  • Confirming I received my money yesterday too. Profit!

  • Excellent news everyone!

Offer still works and expires end of March 2017

Remember to use the random referral to get the money and spend 250 within the 30days

    • I'm wondering why stage 2 still shows up as saying "enjoy platinum benefits by depositing $4,000 per month"?

      • +1

        Standard template.

It is waived if you use the referral links, hope u used the referral links.

  • If anyone's interested my $40 came through 08.03.17. I spent $250+ on the 4th of Feb so it took about a month for me.

  • I just got paid for the promotion, thanks again OP :)

  • I received a nice little referral credit surprise in my account today :) How did you go @Turd? Must be raking it in…

  • I received the money today also!
    Thanks OP.

  • Thanks guys - can't believe I missed this one until today!
Just signed up, so fingers crossed it's all good! Thanks to the Referrer too and enjoy your $40

  • +1

Yes! I can live for another week. :)

  • I assume everyone got the credit description as "I Bank With Macquarie Winner" ?

    googled and went to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/296058

wow someone managed to get $480!

    • and the one with the most posts in here hasnt shared his referal $ value..
I'm going to guess its more than that, based on the comments before it became a random referral link

      • Four figures right now on day 1.

I referred my parents like 2 weeks later they have got their cash back yet.

I did and do spend the time to reply to each person if I know the answer :)

        • crazy…

        • So will there be more referral payments??? A nice little earner for those that did the brain sourcing…

  • so if i dont spend the $250 within 30 days of opening account will it still be a Platinum Transaction Account with $0 fees per year, also how do you make a referal link for Macquarie

    • I have a suspicion it still will be but don't quote me on it.

The referral links were only for users who part took in the brain sourcing program about 5 months ago.

  • +1

    cheers, $40- arrived today

  • FYI.. I opened one for mum on 25th of Jan, but only made the payment 32 days after. She didnt get $40. I made account for dad on Feb 3rd, Made payment 25 days later. Got the $40 March 10.

So yeah sucks mum missed out on the $40 coz it was lapsed 30+ days. :(

  • My $40 cleared on the 8th of March: "I Bank With Macquarie Winner"

  • Not sure why this hasnt got more upvotes.

It is simple free $40 by clicking buttons. Using referral link in the above.

I suspect a lot of people didnt click on the referral link and just clicked the main image thinking it will lead to the offer.

Since main OP doesnt suggest to NOT click the image —> and instead should use referal link at bottom.

    • My initial posting has been edited a few times by others, but I'll edit it again. :)

      • Put in large big font.

I suspect a lot of random (non commenters) lurkers are wondering where their $40 is and due to conditions and/or original offer referral link not being clicked on

      • +1

Hope you got lots of referral credits Bargain4U! Great post :)

        • Thanks, it's my pleasure! I didn't because my link was halfway down the referral wiki when the mods created it. C'est la vie. :D

        • @Bargain4U: Yes, great post! :-) Good account too. Thanks OP.

  • May i please ask if this account has an overdraft?

My Bankwest account has a $100 overdraft, which is great for automatic debits - for when i have forgotten to transfer $ from savings.

Looking to get out of Bankwest ASAP!
