DAB radio is a nice addition

    • +3

Yeah I wish more high end phones had it.

    • +3

I've never seen DAB+ on any other phone. That alone is making me consider buying this even though I already have way too many phones.

Almost 300 bucks for a Snapdragon 410? What is this 2015?

    • +1

Nope it's 2017 where most mobiles apps do not stress a Snapdragon 410.

      • Na more like snapdragon 430. Some apps would stress it. 430 or 625 to be safe.

      • Even though its still a capable SOC, but its being sold at clost to300 bucks. LG isn't exactly known for its quality manufacturing lately, and you got plenty of Xiaomis with Snapdragon 650s for less than that.

If they want to sell a 410, sell it at a resonable price.

    • +1

In 2015 there was an awesome OzBargain deal for a $40 Huawei Y550 locked to Vodafone. The Huawei Y550 and Motorola G were midrange mobile phones that shared the Snapdragon 410.

Nothing wrong with the speed of these phones. There are heaps of brand new budget smartphones with this processor.

  • is it OLED display?

  • Will there ever be a better stylus phone than the Note 4?

      • Nope 7

    Is single or dual sim?

  • 2GB RAM good, Adreno 306 seems a little underpowered for 720x1280 (only 20 GFLOPS), but probably fine.

At first I thought it included digital TV - HD streaming with no data charges!

Why don't any phones do that? I see it's contrary to networks' interests who promote, subsidize and sell phones, or are there technical problems (e.g. power needed for weak radio signal?).

    • +1

Antenna size required will make the phone the size of a laptop, as well as it will only work outdoors.

      • +1

I have the DSM-T100 and it only has a small wire loop for an antenna and it works fine in the office building.
I don't see why they cannot use earphones as the antenna. Phones with built in FM radio work the same way.

    • +2

If the USB digital TV decoder I have is any guide the main issue is you cannot move without the picture breaking up. I don't mean you can hold the phone still in your hand I mean you have to place the phone on a stationary surface. This means it's a tiny TV you can carry around but you cannot watch it on the train.

The decoder gets too hot to touch which would make the phone too hot to touch if it was internal.

Also it drains battery like crazy.

    PPTV KING 7 6 Inch 2.5D 3GB RAM 32GB ROM Helio X10 MTK6795 Octa Core 2.0GHz 4G Smartphone $148.18 Shipped
That was being discussed here. I'm no PhoneNerd but wouldn't this be a better deal if you don't need DAB+?
    Old post for specs

    • incredible, though g6200 @700MHz is 90 GFLOPS… might struggle with 2K (2560x1440) games, I'd prefer 120 GFLOPS. Might also burn through the 3610mAh battery.
Why don't you submit this as a bargain? Make a place to discuss it.

      • I didn't find it, Titus Canby did. Like I said, I'm not a phone expert so not sure if it's post worthy.

    • Wish KING 7 had NFC, otherwise great phone for under $150 with all the specs

    • A few local reviews available. Was about to post that link😯

  • I bought a Xiaomi Mi Max 64GB, dual sim, 6.44in screen (Snapdragon 652 3GB RAM) for $280 from ebay. Received in 4 days via DHL. Very happy with it. You can get the 32GB version (Snapdragon 650 3GB RAM) for about $240.

On this other hand, LG Stylus DAB+ with local warranty, LG brand, has DAB+ and stylus.

    • Doe it have google play?

      • Sold locally - yes it should have Google play. Interesting combination of features. I'm not confident with DAB+ on a phone. You'll need headphones plugged in for signal (correct me if I'm wrong) and my experience of DAB+ in the car is that it's bit unreliable on the move. Besides I have 3 months of unlimited Google music and unmetered data on Optus. Also 2GB RAM is not enough for me..

      • Mine comes with Google play, International ROM, not Xiaomi app store.

  • +2

This is pretty tempting, my old man listens to DAB+ radio all the time, this would be a nice gift as he always complains about not having DAB+ on his mobile phone.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I have had mine since June 2016, I'm no phone expert but find it ok.

The big selling point was Dab+ for me, which I had it paired to b/tooth in car and it is very poor, keeps dropping out in the end I gave up on the Dab+ feature.

  • There are no shortage of DAB+ dongles. If your phone support OTG there is nothing stopping you.

  • Plenty of better options around than this.

  • I had a look at this shortly after I had lost my real G4 [ it was listed as the G4 stylus at the time]. Given the pretty lack-lustre specs and the fact I had grabbed a reasonable little portable DAB+ radio from KMart for $9 [ usually ~ $30], you could say I was less than impressed. At ~ $130, I'd recommend it to someone who didn't want anything too flash, but at $279, I think LG are taking the piss…

    • +1

Modified 1 of the Kmart $9 DAB+ radios - now mounted in the car dash. Circuit board (photos in original deal) is single DIN size. Lengthened antenna cable & attached different antenna. Stereo output fed to AUX input. Works great👍

Exchanged 1 for improved $39 model @Kmart a few months back. Another store refused.

  • A big positive for this phone is that it handles all the current 4G frequencies for Telstra, Optus, Vodafone.

    Extract from the LG website:
    "OPERATING FREQUENCY - 4G LTE FDD: 2100,1800,850,2600,900,700 TDD: 2300"

An audio review of the DAB+ radio mentioned that the radio has very good reception. The audio output is supposed to be similar to an LG G5, a slightly restricted dynamic range. Should only be an issue if you're an audiophile who plans to listen to non-DAB stuff like MP3 files of high bitrate.

DAB+ is the reason to buy for music on the go without download charges.
    Also has FM if needed.

Replaced our HTC One M8 for this phone and like it a lot. Bigger, brighter and faster than the HTC.

Can't wait to test this at AFL games so I can leave the radio at home.
DAB+ reception might be so-so in enclosed places like the MCG and Etihad.
Might also provide DAB+ over Bluetooth in the car (not tried this yet as headphones are still needed for the antenna)

The option to get a potential 5% extra discount if you take the sales brochure to Office-works might be worth trying.
Also have 7 days to return to the Office-works if not up to expectations.

Officeworks are currently selling for $269, so a price match won't be possible.

  • Can someone who has one confirm it has NFC? Some specs list it and others don't.

    • It does

  • Saw stock today at same price in a Brisbane Aldi, & photographed in Aldi deal - so not expired.

  • $249 @ Eastgardens. 1 left.

  • A couple of annoying things: no 5ghz, can't move apps to sd (but there might be a way around that).
On bright side Netflix let's you download straight to sd which is not allowed in many other phones.
