  • In the last 6 months there has been a crazy spike in these China deals some as low as $200-$300 return to China..

    What's the go here? Strange.

    • They have a duopoly on direct HK flights with Qantas, hence why HK is more expensive than China via HK. They also see themselves as a "premium" airline compared to Chinese carriers.

      • Virgin should hopefully start breaking the oneworld duopoly on flights to HK this year

    • Competition with Chinese Airlines

  • Cathay Pacific, Great airline service and meal and size of meal is better than Qantas

    • I don't agree. My experience is the complete opposite, in fact, CX's service has been sliding for some time, they are in the Hong Kong news a lot these days for the wrong reasons.

      • Apparently a lot of Cathay pilots are unhappy with the direction the company is going and morale is pretty bad from what I've got.

  • most probably it is affected by Chinese high-speed trains, some Chinese airlines are redundant in their domestic market.

  • I can only find a $633 fare out of Melbourne if I fly out on a Monday or Tuesday.

  • I found 780 for the dates I wanted…but was only for the crap times (ie flying during the day). Flying overnight was 880ppn. (Mel-hkg)

  • Thanks OP. I missed the CNY sale, was going to pay 1k+ for a ticket, but now save me nearly $300 with this sale price.
