Foxtel - 3 Months Free Platinum HD, Free iQ2, 6 Month Contract (New Customers)

90

Thought this was a good deal. It says new customers but really means anyone who does not have an existing service. I cancelled mine after the NRL season finished last year and this has come at a good time.

Monthly costs:

First 3 months $0 p/mth
Month 4 onwards $137 p/mth for Platinum HD or lowest price $26 p/mth.

Foxtel flexibility guarantee applies, so you can downgrade after 3 months.

One off costs:

Standard install fee $100, or if self install available - $25.

iQ2 equipment fee waived. Can select the MyStar box during sign up for regional customers.

    Overpriced service IMHO.

  • +2

Month 4 onwards $137 p/mth for Platinum HD or lowest price $26 p/mth.

    Really?

Says "Min cost $511.03 (inc. std install) on a 6 month direct debit plan", which is $85 per month over the 6 months…

    • -1

The lowest price possible is $103 for the 6 months if you self install and downgrade after the third month.

      • When you click "Select and Customise", it states:

        6 month plan

        Monthly cost During offer period
        $0.00*

        After offer ends
        $137.00*

After 6 months you pay month-to-month

        *Minimum total cost $511.0

        Offers applied
Platinum HD first 3 months free*

Happy to be proven wrong, but you might want to check they will let you go to the $26 a month package after the first 3 months before signing up.

        • The Flexibility Guarantee means you can change it.

          FAQs
Am I locked into the same package for the contract period?
No. With so many amazing channels available, we understand that choosing the right package might be a bit overwhelming, that's why you are not locked in to the same package for the period of your contract. As your needs change, so can your Foxtel. You must always subscribe to the Entertainment Pack, but you can add or remove other channel packs month to month by calling us on 131 999.

And from the price guide, Platinum HD is $137 and Basic is $26.

Spoke to them today and ordered. You can definitely downgrade after 3 months. Decent deal IMHO

Did the same with OP last year…
Cancelling Foxtel was quite demanding though. You have to call them, being kept on hold, and they kept chatting you up with nonsense so that you stay with them. I have done that twice in the past few years. I think that's enough for a lifetime. Why can't we just press a button on a webpage and get the Foxtel account cancelled?

    Anyway, enough ranting….
For NRL, going to have to learn to live with this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290414

    Cheers!

@67Gateway, we absolutely agree. We signed up for their one month free to try it. Found the quality way below par for our taste and wanted out of the deal within the first 2 week of our freebie. Asking to disconnect was a really painful experience, you are on hold for 30mins, then get told you need to speak with their "disconnection team" to disconnect, but they cannot put you straight through. This team calls you back days later, and when they confirm you will get a disconnection sms and an email, and then do not get one… We called them back the following week and were told that our account had no records that we ever called and spoke with anyone about disconnecting. We did finally manage to get out, but this whole episode was a very bad experience for us. If they offered this crap to us now for 3 years free I would not touch.

Sounds like people should just avoid this overpriced service where you pay for advertising to be shown to you like a brain dead muppet.

  • well optus customers are being told to sign up to foxtel as there service is not compat with nbn..

  • +4

Take away live sports and these guys are dead, along with FTA. Can't come soon enough.

  • +3

Get Netflix instead if you're not into pirating. FOXTEL has had a huge monopoly for way too long and it's their own fault for not advancing to suit consumer needs. Boycott!

  • +2

Got 3 months free last year, with free install, and then a further 3 months free of base package & movies…

Still got rid of it after all those freebies

    • The relentless insurance / other worthless crap ads endlessly repeating to fill 16 minutes of every hour is enough to drive anyone mad.

      • +1

I agree. That is the main reason we didnt keep it on 'just for the sake of it'. We lost the ability to record FTA TV but we regained our sanity from not having to hear endless ad repeats.

Rinse and repeat after footy season.

        • As the legacy infrastructure is still usable (they took the box and remote but forgot the EOP adapters) I imagine this will be a "self install" and incur the $25 fee?

        • +1

@Sir Casm: I did the deal over the phone and got the $25 waived

        • For recording FTA just grab a $399 FetchTV box from one of the Mass Merchants and activate it for a dollar.

          Can't recommend this box enough.

Without subscription to FetchTV you can just use it to record FTA and stream Netflix etc. Great unit for the price

        • @Ramrunner:

Used a Fetch box over the Straya Day long weekend, and was impressed with it, though I found input a bit laggy and the startup takes forever - even my old Tivo 320HD used to boot way quicker - however the Netflix / other app integration was solid.

TBH, and I don't think I'm alone here, I don't watch enough broadcast TV these days to justify a PVR. I watch news & live sports, but if there's really a show that Mrs and I want to enjoy it's either Netflixed or we acquire a "digital backup copy".

      • It makes TV awful. There's no other way to put it.

Plus there's the fact that you are affected by it - only a very naive person would tell themselves otherwise. The science is clear cut (and there has been a lot of it due to the billions of dollars to be made) - it will change your behavior. And you paying for this crap?

    • Same here. Nice novelty at first, but once the sport went it was pretty useless.

  • sooooooooooo when does game of thrones start again?

    • 25 June.

  • +1

I'd jump on this if it had the free setup like that deal last year. :(

    • ditto, not sure if it will happen again

  • Started this other day. Didn't click through.

They rang me. Got free diy installation (which is usually $25 )

Wil change package to sports only after 3 months

  • I also just signed up for this purely for the NRL. Should average out to about $30 a month over the 6 months of I go back to just sport after the first three months … So essentially $7.50 a week to watch all games live plus the various NRL shows in full HD. Not a bad deal if you put it likd that I think.

I really don't like foxtel and swear I'll never sign up again, but sport in HD is the best!

    • Yep agree sports in HD is why you get Foxtel

None of the streaming services are anywhere near as good - plus you get Foxtel Go.

FOr $30 a month to see every NRL game live it is a no brainer bargain for me.

  • Telstra are offering free installation and $15 per month off the regular monthly price - but no free months from what I can see.

I think Telstra's deal isn't as good if you quit after 6 months - but its better in the long haul if you cant negotiate a discount from Foxtel.

  • Still too expensive.. they should pay you to watch the ads.

  • Hmm So to watch Channel 506 for my F1, V8s that Foxtel now have exclusive to I have to:

Buy a base package which from memory is around $25.
Buy the sports package again is around another $25.
A lot of the races are when I'm sleeping so I need IQ another $10.
I didn't spend big bucks on a home theatre to watch stuff is SD so another $10 to get HD.

Unless prices have gone down last time I looked it is $70 per month for me to watch one channel. To be fair if that includes GoT I WOULD watch that. lol does it?

My on demand Netflix in HD streaming 3 devices simultaneously about $13 per month I think.

No sport, but I think we can see the ridiculous price disparity here? Can I just ask do you guys get it for sport or exclusives like Game of Thrones and do you REALLY think it's worth the money?

If I had the power I'd get everybody to boycott Foxtel to force them to come back with realistic prices. And drop the damn ads. There's no place for ads in content you pay $70 per month for that's just damn ridiculous.

    • I get it purely for sport.

I watch every nrl game live. I watch nothing else.

It's worth it for me. Disconnect when the nrl season ends, reconnect when it starts again

    • Unless prices have gone down last time I looked it is $70 per month for me to watch one channel. To be fair if that includes GoT I WOULD watch that. lol does it?

Foxtel Play works out well for GOT and sports in HD if you share with a friend (they allow two screens at once)…it's $15 a month for 3 months, then $22 a month after:

      • Buy Telstra TV on Gumtree for ~$50 brand new (which also includes $72 of Netflix credit)

      • Use code TELPRESBOH10 to sign up for 3 months of Pop (which has GOT) and Sports in HD on Foxtel Play for a total of $15 a month each (then $22 a month after the 3 months)

      https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/offer/prestovoucher.htm…

      • If you don't watch the F1 race live, it is available the following day on Anytime (note: Anytime is not in HD atm, but hopefully will be by the time the F1 season starts):

  • How time consuming is it to cancel a current service (no contract) to get this deal? Is it possible?

    • +1

I just did this today. Cancelled Foxtel with Telstra and signed up for this. Do it over the phone to avoid the $25 self install fee.

      • awesome, thanks.
Although I am with Foxtel directly, hopefully I will get the same result.
