Well, the S6 has internal battery and memory which cannot be removed, so that one is rubbish, S7 is shiny but expensive. This is still the best value phone in my book.

This is still the best value phone in my book.

Not everybody has your book though…

          Do you have Neo's book?

        • i got it, i also pinched your book too.

        • @Balls:

          also pinched your book too.

          the neow one?

        • @jv:

I got both. Balls is a liar.

        • @jv:

Not his nor yours friend. If i did you can bet i wouldn't have a reason to frequent internet forums for the sake of sharing information with my fellows! ;)

    • I went from this to a Lenovo zuk z2 bloody awesome for the price $225

The positive is that it's waterproof. I had mine in pools, dropped in spas etc… still worked. Until the dumb rubber stopper on the micro USB slot falls off that is.

In 2017? Nope. Too slow, the screen isn't crash hot and the camera is rubbish even compared to the S6 which is also rubbish.

yes its quite old, no you shouldnt buy it even for spares, and who spends more than $300 for a spare phone, those 20$ coles do just fine

    • As a dumb phone yes. But not if you're a heavy app user.

      • Boughtmy mum a boost Indy, cost $19 and does everything.

  • With recent app updates this is now a painfully slow phone on marshmallow. Not to mention the camera being terribly poor in anything other than bright daylight. Low light was miles ahead on the S4.

Too slow and lags compared to recent handsets.
Get the S7 from Virgin on the $55 plan with 4gb if data and $100 credit.

Cheapest plan with 4GB would be $30pm. So the handset is about $25 pm.
Over 24 months minus the $100, comes to $500 for the handset.
Plus you get the fit bit thing that you can sell for another $100

    • Thank you. I'm over IOS and want to give Android a go with the Samsung GS7E. I'll be doing this. Cheers.

      • I got my wife the S7 edge and she loves it over her old iPhone 5

What if you dont like plans?

Can you suggest some phones which are in the same price bracket which are better?

Google nexus 5x might be one.

    • Nothing ive seen beats a boost Indy at aus post for $19.

    • If you don't like plans then buy it out right during an eBay sale.
      And claim TRS.

Only other phone with band28 and 1080p under $400 seems to be the moto g4 plus…..Same price and has android 7 ……My son's updated to android 7 last night OTA .

    • Yes, I'd vote for the G4 Plus as well. I have an S5 which still works fine. Just bought one for my wife. I was going to get her the G4 Plus but decided that for tech support purposes, it is easier for me if she has the same phone.

Yes, it would be nice to be able to spend $800 - $1,000 on a new phone but that is an expensive item to be carrying around in my pocket all day every day.

      • G4 plus doesnt have replaceable battery. Apart from that and the fact its motorolla, it might be ok…

You can also get the motorolla for around $310 by price matching officeworks to good guys

  • I'm pretty sure this phone has an external antenna port, so a huge plus for those in locations needing an external antenna.

I am using Galaxy S5 that bought a week ago… yes $386 I paid at the office works.

all seems good. better than abused old Galaxy S4

  • Too expensive I got a barely used ex Telstra S6 edge 128gb of fleabay for $405 plus postage

  • This phone was widely considered Samsung's worst in years. It feels cheap compared to the competition and lags like hell. There are better phones for the money

  • What are some other phones around the same price that ozbargain recommends. Thank you = )

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (aka "Kate")
I personally have the Xiaomi Mi5 and it's awesome for what it is and the price

      • thanks Twister, is there a site you can recommend for either phone

        • Aliexpress… HK Goldway, Dreami are both very highly reputed stores

  • So Officeworks put their price up $20 from $366 and its a bargain????? Well I suppose it must be because JB Hifi put their price up $30 to $397

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288539

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288282

Bing Lee was selling it for $320 in the ebay 20% off
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/289929

    • Bing lee didnt have stock yesterday or today.

Jbhifi at 4pm today was $597.
Harvey norman at around 2pmish was $597 now $449.

Even kogan is $449 so HN might be matching kogan

      Expect HN to counter JB.

Officeworks has changed the moto g4 plus to $349 to match GoodGuys.

Im sensing all these companies all watch ozbargain lol

  • Thanks for this. Handy to replace my wife's S5 that I bricked last night.
