Absolutely ridiculous difference in price between $429 (straight shaft) and $279 (bent shaft).

Seems to be otherwise identical, so that means Honda attempts to get at least $150 extra for a small set of bevel gears and a diecast aluminium housing. That's half the price of the whole UMS425 unit, what a rip.

That's probably why people buy alternative chassis (KAAZ, etc) when they want a Honda-engine straight shaft.

EDIT: To those heros who are negging this comment, you would help all of us if you explain WHY.

I paid $349 for this unit 4 years ago and the bent shaft was $299. Not sure how the pricing ended up where it is now.

      • Man… I'd be happy to pay $350….

    • Have a plus-vote for making sense.

    • Honda do some really strange things with their own products versus their OEM parts sold to other companies.

Original Honda generators can easily run from $2,000 - $6,000 for <6kVa sizes, but you can find OEM Honda's with basic frames and alternators for <$1,000.

      • They have to make the genuine expensive otherwise the OEM's wont buy their engines

But yeah, might as well buy the genuine powered made by other [same?] OEM's and pocket the huge savings

Good stuff honda, i prefer Briggs&Stratton engines, esp. the Vanguard series.

    • Just WOW - I copped FIVE Negs for my comment above. I feel like a mini JV :-D

Incredible how this place works, eh?

Regarding the price, I notice that Honda are really pushing the bent shaft as a "consumer" product, even appears on adverts on cable TV recently. They seem to be trying to make that the high volume loss leader to get people buying the brand.
