  • So are the 300min calls and 3000 texts for use in the 42 nominated countries? Or are the calls and texts for the UK only?

    • UK only as in description.

    • Hi avra06,

That's right! The 300min calls and 3000 texts can only be used within the United Kingdom.

However the 12GB of data can be used in the nominated 42 countries :)

      -Michael

      • Quick Q, if you're roaming while using this card but also want to make calls and send texts, would you have to add more credit? Or just use the existing credit that's applied when the card is activated much quicker? Cheers :)

  • +1

You've spelt Australia wrong on your site. Proof

    • +3

      Hi Aether,

Thank you for picking up on that! I will have the development team fix that ASAP.

      Thank you! :)

      -Michael

  • I'm travelling to Europe in June, does this have an expiry on how long you can wait before activation?

    • +1

      Hi Chenc64,

The SIM does not have a shelf life, so if purchased now it won't matter - expiry will start once the SIM has been activated :)

      -Michael

      • How does one recharge the SIM if they are not in the UK? Recharge online seems to require a UK based credit card.

        • Used this sim card whilst in Europe, travelling for two months and basically you cant recharge it after you leave the UK. Shame as this deal and other similar UK sims are so much better value then others throughout Europe

        • @mccaj09: Yep it sure is. I have a card from last year (purchased in the UK) and I think that it cost me about about $40 AUD for the same thing. Just wasn't sure if there is an option to recharge if one is travelling for longer than a month.

        • Hi,

You are right, to recharge online requires a UK credit card, HOWEVER.

You can contact the ThreeUK customer service by either calling, emailing or using live chat and ask them to recharge for you.

          http://www.three.co.uk/Contact-us/i

          Hope this helps!

          Thanks.

        • @FindMyPlan: Thanks for the hot tip

  • wow. bought the 3 Uk sim card for $50 2 weeks ago

decided to get another one since my parents will be away 2 months. cheaper than a top up I think

    • omg i did the same from datago. So annoyed now…

  • what about incoming calls?… when your in a country other than UK? whats the per min rate?

    • Hi Bonky,

That will depend on the person calling you, their plan may have unlimited calls to the country you're in! :)

If you want to be completely safe on both ends, we find most of our customers will use data apps like WhatsApp and messenger to keep in touch with friends and family!

      -Michael

      • You're making it tempting to go to Europe now…. any cheap flights too?

        • +1

Haha I wish I could give you some cheap flights! Too bad we live on an island in the middle of the ocean!

  • whats the cost to call back to Australia while in the UK?

    • You can check the call rates through the following link:

      http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBISAPI.DLL?Command=New,Kb=Mobile,Ts=Mobile,T=Article,varset_cat=roaming,varset_subcat=4161,Case=obj(4160)

      -Michael

  • edit Question already answered.

    • Hi Trogdor,

Awesome that you're making sure that your parents are staying connected whilst travelling! :)

The SIM does not have a shelf life. If you purchase now, you can just have it sitting in your draw until travel time is here! Once the SIM has been activated that's when the expiry will start!

      -Michael

  • Off to the UK and then mainland Europe in August so this looks pretty promising. Does it automatically give you a phone number that people can call you on? if yes, I assume it's a UK number right? And where can I get details on the 'recharge' costs etc after the one month is up?

    • Hi Idyllboy,

The phone number is supplied on the packing! So you can give it to your friends and family before you travel! That's right, the number will be a UK phone number.

To check the recharge costs simply go to: three.co.uk/add-ons

      -Michael

      • thanks Michael for quick response: for anyone else interested, it looks like you pay the following for recharging
        £20 for same as above (12Gb + 300 minutes + 3000sms)
        £25 for unlimited data and 500 minutes + 3000sms
other offers for 3 to 3, just data, just calls

      • Michael. Can I activate in USA , then travel to Canada and then onto UK and Germany? Or does it actually need to be activated in the UK?

        • You will be able to activate in USA. And just to be clear, the SIM doesnt work in Canada. But will work if you go to USA, UK, Germany.

  • Thanks. I brought 4, going to Germany and US soon. I hope the coverage is good.

  • +3

Note that this plan does not allow tethering. See http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Phones/Feel_At_Home

    • +2

I'm interested to know if that applies when the sim is used in a wifi dongle.

      • +4

It does apply. I've tried it. Three seems to use packet inspection to prevent tethering.

        • +1

ah that's a deal breaker. thanks for clearing it up. still looking for a European sim that offers good roaming data allowance with tethering.

        • +1

@zedroid: I've used the Three data SIM before. It's a bit more expensive but it allows tethering while roaming. See http://www.datago.co/3-uk-payg-mobile-broadband-prepaid-sim.…

        • VPN?

        • +1

          @Underlord:

3UK has bought in policy that these data SIMs must be first activated in UK.

No good for me, going to Italy first.

        • @phbk: bugger. I was about to buy a 12GB data sim for $52 from eBay. looks like they have closed down pretty much all the loop holes.

        • Would you happen to know whether this applies to WiFi hotspot via Android device?

        • @phbk: That sucks, I was planning to get one for my next trip in a couple months time..

        • @phbk:

Can the reps please confirm whether the sim needs to activate in UK? If it is.. then this suck and I just brought 4…

        • +2

@dpoon73: afaik, the sim activation within UK is required only for 'mobile broadband' sim. 'mobile phone' sim should be ok to use even when activated outside UK.

        • @phbk: UK activation is what I had read on other sites and it's not clear from the description that this is the case.

        • +1

@dpoon73: I asked Pete at datago and got this response:

I have just confirmed (doing an activation myself with a 3UK preloaded Phone SIM now here in Australia) with no issue, but 3UK has recently issued a statement saying they will block activations on the 3UK data SIM if not first activated in UK…no reference to the preloaded Phone SIM as far as I am aware.

        • @Underlord: This is correct, we have activated the All in One phone plans in many countries with no issues thus far. However we were instructed not to activate DATA-ONLY plans outside UK first. As there is a chance that the SIM will get deactivated. Hope this clears things up. P.S anyone who has purchased the SIM in this deal shouldnt have any problems activating outside UK.

        • @FindMyPlan:

          Hi Michael,

Have you tried activating this after the announcement/have there been any customer issues?

I just placed an order via paypal, but would like the above confirmed - as I'd rather not have to deal with issues downstream on our trip.

Also, I believe all calls received in the feel at home destinations are free under this plan, but can you confirm that this is correct?

        • @Underlord: That's stupid…. As if you couldn't reload credit here so you can hit the ground running with data….

I'll send them a email saying I need to have internet when I land for my business trip and see what they say.

    • Does not allow tethering period, or just not in the UK? The terms seem a little vauge;

"Feel At Home is designed for UK residents who are on holiday or business trips abroad, not for extended periods abroad."
"You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad"

      From Here

"Feel at home is intended for UK residents visiting one of the destinations for short trips like holidays or business trips. This means that there are some restrictions regarding how you use Feel At Home"
      "Other restrictions are:
You Can't use your phone as a personal Hotspot, also called tethering, in a Feel At Home destination. This applies even if you normally tether in the UK using your data allowance, or have a personal hotspot allowance or Add-on."

      Our Feel At Home Destinations

      If your plan includes Feel At Home, you can currently enjoy this in;
Australia, Austria, France, Malta, ….etc etc…

NO Mention of UK in the list of destinations, does that mean you can tether in the UK but not in Europe?

      All extracts from Here

Be nice if Michael could clarify. Heading to UK in March and this is ideal IF tethering allowed in UK.

      • Assuming this is the same SIM it appears tethering may be available in the UK only.

Also, this paragraph on the 3 site has me confused?

        Availability.

You can enjoy Feel At Home whether you're on Pay Monthly or Pay As You Go, using a tablet, phone, Mobile Wi-Fi or dongle. On all our Pay Monthly plans, except Three Essential plans, you'll automatically use your monthly unit allowance and Add-on unit allowance to call and text the UK and use data, and if you're on Pay As You Go you'll need to convert your Pay As You Go credit into an Add-on to get a unit allowance to fully enjoy Feel At Home.

        • I think this is already done (pre-selected?) for this SIM, it's activated into the "All-in-One 20" add-on.

  • perfect timing and much cheaper than elsewhere. off to europe for 3 weeks in april. thanks OP

  • These sims are a great deal. Used with Viber last year and made calls from the non UK countries. Always in contact.

  • Hey Michael, I'm worried leaving the global data roaming on the whole time will charge me more money etc.

    • So I ensure my old sim card has been removed, put the new sim card in and the data is just fixed, so once I reach 12gb I won't be charged anymore, my data just won't work?

    • Also once the data has been reached, will the phone calls and/or texts still work?

    Thanks

    • +1

      Hi,

Don't worry, there is no way for you to be billed roaming charges on a PrePaid SIM (the whole reason to get a prepaid SIM!).

Once you use all the data the internet will stop working correct, there will be no additional charges.
Once the Data is all used up the calls and texts will remain until the end of the 30 days.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks

  • Hi. I'm going to Europe in 2weeks. Do I need to activate the sim here in Australia prior to leaving or do I just open and insert the sim card on my arrival In Europe?

    • You can do either, but I would just wait until you are in Europe as as soon as the SIM is picked up on a network it starts the 30 days.

      • Is there no registration required? Do I just put it in then it's ready to be used?

  • Which countries can I use this in?

  • Damn just bought on of these elsewhere for $49

  • I just tried to buy one using Paypal, however didn't receive a confirmation email yet a USD $1 charge on my credit card from Paypal?

    Has my order been received?

sorted (gotta remember to press submit!)

  • i'm going on a mediterranean cruise in 2 weeks. Will it work on the ship? lol sorry. Not sure whether to get prepaid sim or buy data on the cruise. It's ex Genoa, Italy.

    • Unfortunately it won't work when you are on a cruise. Do be careful! Wifi is super expensive on cruises.

  • +1

Just wondering if i can buy this and activate it here in Australia to be able to use 12gb of data for $28? Does it support 4g or its just 3g?

    • Hi Bnjam3,

Here in Australia the data speed is 3.5G (H+)(21mbps). You can use it here in Australia as much as you like.

      Hope this helps,

      Thanks!

  • Is this 4G data (where available)?

  • I'd pay that much for a 6 GB plan if you would only let me tether. I don't want to spend 4 weeks in Europe looking at maps and booking accommodation on a 4 inch screen.

    • where does it say that you can't?

  • I'm moving to the UK in March for 12-24 months. Can you just recharge this sim?

    • You could, but if you are in one country for long time periods there are better deals around - and coverage for where you are will become an issue (which network).

      • I bought 2 just so we (partner and I) had something for when we get over there initially. We can sort out who we go with and what we get when there.

  • What's a good SIM for US/Canada? Buy in Australia or pick-up on arrival?

  • Hey sorry if this is not allowed.
but i was wondering if there was something similar for USA? looking mainly for prepaid data but calls would be a welcome bonus.

    cheers

    • +1

Just buy a sim when there if you are staying in the one country.

      • oh cool yea hoping to be there 3 months do you recommend any carriers for this?
        thanks

        • +1

It's been many years since I was in the US…but I used Virgin and T-Mobile. Both were fine for my needs then, but myou experience with them is too old to be useful for you now.

  • Perfect! I was about to order one of these SIM cards from the simcorner. Thanks OP! Will order 2 now.

  • Wow this is awesome, thank you so much for posting it here (more so I knew they existed). I bought 2 for my europe trip in September.

  • Hi OP any upcoming deals on USA SIM cards?

    • +1

      Hi!

We will have USA T-mobile plans soon but it just takes a bit of time for us to organise with carriers.

If you send an Email through to [email protected] letting us know when you go, we can let you know if we have stock available beforehand. Would be a couple months though.

      Thanks.

  • Hi Michael,

I'm interested in picking one of these up, but I have read a number of these sims require initial activation in the UK - can you confirm it can be activated in any of the 42 countries?

Also, is there any cost to receiving calls?

    • Can be activated within any of the 42 destination countries

      As per the website.

  • I purchased Pay as you go sim from a three store when in the UK last year. It was £16 for 3GB but lasted 3 months. It worked in most European countries but not Germany but sounds like this offer includes Germany. It also worked when we got back to Oz!

    • Purchased a similar sim in 2015. Can't remember exact countries that it covered, but it worked in all we visited. Also worked in Oz.

    • ThreeUK have been expanding their 'Feel at Home' countries for the last few years (continue to do so). Definately includes Germany.

  • is it true that the wifi in Finland is free to all??

  • +1

To everyone asking if this is 4G enabled - unfortunately it's not, 3G only on the Roam Like Home program.
    https://3g.co.uk/guides/what-is-feel-at-home-on-three-everyt…

Still incredibly handy to have, because hopping from city to city and getting a local prepaid SIM in each country is incredibly annoying - ordered mine just in time for my trip in a couple of weeks!

  • Hey OP

Can this be used as a data only sim in an Ipad in the USA?

  • The coverage is garbage in the USA. 2G or SOS only if you're outside of a city.

  • Hey rep - do you still need to activate these from the UK? Also how long are these packs active for?

Awesome to see Three UK has added Germany and The Netherlands to their feel at home destinations. Would highly recommend this SIM card. Excellent to use for EUROPE.

To those asking about roaming in the US, I don't know why the hell you would bother. USA phone plans are cheap. T-Mobile for example is the same price.

  • Additional info:

    http://www.three.co.uk/termspdf/PAYG_PriceGuide_221216.pdf

Use your units in the UK or in Feel At Home destinations.

Looks like the call and SMS allowance can be used in feel at home countries (along with the data allowance).

These countries seem to have 'reasonable' excess rates (if you need more than the included allowance):

ØThe selected European countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy (inc.Vatican City), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia,
Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

    • If you read further into that document it seems to be that only calls and texts back to the UK from a feel at home destination are able to be used out of your allowance.

  • Hi OP

I was planning on taking my ipad to the UK in a couple of months and was wondering if this sim can be activated/used as a data only sim within the UK?

    Thanks

  • I'm flying over to Europe (Paris, London and Rome) next week What's the best way to get ahold of the sim card? just drop into a Three store?

    • +2

If you land in London, you can pick up one from a vending machine after you clear customs

      • thanks for the heads up

      • is it the same price?
