Wow that Melb to Perth price is pretty remarkable!

  • Unless it gets cancelled

    • My last Mel -> Adl Tiger flight was cancelled at the last minute with 200 people in line ready to board.

      Never again.

      • What do they do in that case?

They offered an alternative flight the next afternoon as the only option (most people were travelling for the footy so would have been useless). No refunds.

It was chaos at the counter.

          @martino:
No refunds? How is that even legal?

They can't just sell tickets and then say "you can't fly, but we'll keep the money anyway".

        • @MrTweek: Agreed. There's definitely more to the story than that, doubt they'd be able to get away with it not with 200 people. At least one of them would know something to do something, I would. Its also as simple as a CC chargeback and by law, purchase not fit for its purpose and the purpose is for a specific date often for specific reason. Alternative need to be offered but otherwise refund because missing the footy for example means that the flight is not fit for the purpose it was sold (which was to fly at a specific time/date).

      • TBH mine was too last week. Flight up, defective aircraft four hour delay, flight back cancelled.

I fly often and had Jetstar flights cancelled, Qantas cancelled, and even had a Virgin flight cancelled that taxied all the way to the runway, only to return to the terminal with an engine issue. It happens with all airlines.

Also for others, there's a couple of Jetstar pricebeat options still available for Perth-Melb which you can score at $44.10 with CC fees included if you're quick :)

I've also had other carriers cancel a flight but in all cases the carrier has provided support and alternative options.

On one Qantas flight back from Perth, they cancelled due to unusual smell in the hold (some stupid woman packed a bottle of acetone that started leaking) - as it was the last flight of the day and due to curfew at destination (Adelaide) they put everyone up in a hotel with vouchers and flew out first thing in the morning.

          Tiger suck.

        • @martino:

Biggest thing with Qantas and Virgin is that have serious frequency and network up back up a cancellation. QF/va have flights on the hour adl-Mel where tiger has a couple of token services.

The problem with Tiger is they may only fly once a day or less. My friends were told they would have to wait a few days for replacement seats to get home. And then there was Bali. So avoid Tiger at peak periods, or if a delay/cancellation is unacceptable.

But for $49 PER-MEL, I'd take that chance.

Thanks OP for this one. Even though Tiger does suck balls I took the risk and snagged flights for me and the Mrs in August from Melb to Perth return for $197.69 all up inc cc! Unbelievable. Now all they have to do is live up to their end of the bargain.

    • thats pretty good price for two people. I hope all will be good :)

  • Forgot to say thanks the other day.

Took the gamble. Family of 4 return Adl->Syd for $234.90.

Crazy good if it all works out. Good flight times as well (if they leave on time lol)

    11am friday departure.
    3pm sunday return

    • Great to hear, hope all will be good :)
