    wow very tempting there…

  • They're saying that the GTX460 is the new king of the value…hill, is this true? or is this one even better?

  • that's really good value, very tempting

"only generic brands, like ECS and Inno3d)"
"This is a better quality Gigabyte brand"

These statements are not true. The only difference other than warranty you are likely to get between graphics cards from different brands are the bundled cables/hardware/software and sometimes the cooler. Quality doesn't really come into play here.

Don't be fooled into thinking it's the difference between Homebrand Cola and Coke, because it's not.

(ECS Are usually much cheaper than the Gigabyte/Asus offerings, even with aftermarket cooling options)

Yes I agree with you on the point that the build quality between brands are generally the same, and if not, usually negligible differences. But I still maintain that service wise, GIGABYTE and ASUS has the fastest turnaround and response when it comes to RMA and product warranty, in comparison with other companies like Inno3d and Powercolour.

Also, Homebrand Cola tastes like crap…

3 weeks ago my Powercolour 5850 PCS+ graphics card bit the dust — and I'm still waiting for a response from the manufacturer and PCDIY.
Never buying from those guys again.

      • I totally agree.

Homebrand Cola does taste like crap.

    • I have an inno3d branded gfx card. its dodgy, has an odd pattern effect on videos.

    • For the most part I actually agree with MooGliSH. I used to always buy the more premium brand stuff but I built a second PC with an ECS card and it was fine (9600 GT). When buying PC parts you have to put on a value on what you want, featurewise, brandwise, supportwise.

  • Be careful with the gtx470, lots of heat and power consumption is through the roof. When deciding between a 470/480 and a 5870, I went through (literally, no hyperbole) hundreds of reviews and came out with a 5870 over the current nvidia offerings.

It's up to all of you to do personal research, though, so don't take any one of our words for it as you might (and probably do) have different goals in mind.

    • The Nvidia cards support CUDA while ATI cards do not, so for you, there might not be a compelling reason to get the GTX 470, but for others who use Adobe CS5 and other CUDA enabled applications, would generally prefer Geforce cards for better synthetic performance.

ATi did have an equivalent of CUDA called ATI Stream but that was sort of vapourware from the start, and never really got off the ground.

      • I disagree, I use OpenCL all the time on my 5870 to run matlab stuff for my degree. If anything, OpenCL is better than CUDA as it has the ability to run on a multitude of different architectures - different CPUs and GPUs. In fact, OpenCL just had a major release a month ago that included great new vector operations (great for what I need).

Also as an edit, Adobe now supports OpenCL 1.1 too in all of their GPGPU enabled applications.
