  • ^ I never realised they had that disclaimer. Has that always been there?

  • I got one of these cookers about a year ago when they were $10. Good value. Never had a problem with it (other than it's messy. Bubbles all over the place. But that could just be because of the small volumes of rice I cook at a time. 1/2 to 1 cup)

    • really? Do you wash the rice before cooking it…
Also how is the condition of the non-stick surface after one year of use? When scratches and wear are visible the means teflon has been ingested which is very very toxic.

Personally I'd shell out a bit more and get a decent slow cooker with a ceramic cookpot to avoid teflon.

      • don't wash the rice before cooking.

after a year still not a mark on the teflon. the only utensil that goes anywhere near it is the plastic spatula that come with it. i hand wash it, after soaking, with a sponge, in a sink with no other items in it. no scourers or brushes.

i only use it about once a month though.

If you thoroughly wash the rice you'll have a much reduced bubbling problem. Not gone, but certainly reduced.

          • @[Deactivated]: thanks for the tip, i'll give it a go next burrito night :D

  • Cheap but not that cheap, you can usually find rice cookers for $10-15 from kmart, target, harvey norman etc pretty frequently. Bought one last year from HN for $15, Breville rice master. I've always washed rice before cooking, just rinse & stir by hand, drain & repeat until water drains off clear. Removes excess starch, the end product doesn't clump together so much.
