  • I haven't seen this put into so many words however clearly the global airlines are struggling to fill seats, I've never seen such a rash of in-season long haul deals in 50 years of flying. Expect a revenue warning from Qantas et al soon .. if it wasn't for depressed fuel prices they'd already be in deep do-do :-( .. !!

    • we need to save them by filling up those seats. problem is not enough annual leave :(

    • Yep last year paid 1000$ for same fare with CP, only because I didn't want to spend 8 hours in KL, Air asia is normally around 600 this price, but Cathay is direct so better flight.

    • And yet every flight is bloody full :( No space for a bit more comfort…

  • Can't seem to find these pricing when I look directly from Cathay Pacific's website.
Seems like the pricing is only available from Byojet.com

+1 For Cathay. Flew MEL-HK in November last year $589 with sale and for the extra $26 I'd recommend.

Add an extra +200 and you get a trip to Europe with a stop over in HK on the way back

The flights can be cheap, but accommodation isn't. So either AirBNB otherwise no good. Plus Hong Kong isn't the Hong Kong we used to know, the whole place has changed dramatically last decade for the worse.

    • If you're prepared to stay in small Guest Houses (basically a private room with a bed and a very small bathroom), you can stay for around $20 per night right in the middle of Tsim Sha Tsui (one of the main tourist areas near the water). If you just walk around that area there will be a lot of people that will just straight up offer you accommodation, no need to book at all.

        The infamous Chungking Mansion :)

Cheap but pretty bad.. Maybe the worst place in all of HK

        • Guess you haven't been to many "shit"tier (I do literally mean it in the public toilet of this shopping mall) place in HK.

    • Oh man my absolute WORST experience with Airbnb was in HK! I shudder at how DIRTY that place was…

  • I fly back and forth to HK quite often and have been on both Qantas and Cathay. I find Cathay's seats are a little more comfy but Qantas' cabin crew service is a lot better.

    • unless you are Cathay Pacific pilot for "special" treatment ;;)

  • Warning, if you buy the cheapest tickets you wont be able to choose seats until 48 hr before departure, this happened to me recently :(

    • -1

      Does that really matter?

      • yes because i wanted to sit next to family

        • Will you pay more to let you choose seats more than 48 hr before departure?
