  • Excludes meals ???? How long is the flight ????

    • Very long …. 10 hours?

      No Sydney

      • You'll get mighty hungry then since you can't bring along your own food… (excludes luggage too!!!)

        • you can prepay for meals on the plane - quite tasty or the small price you pay, or purchase online - works the same with all budget carriers mate.

  • -2

    Excludes luggage ???? WT ????

Does it exclude the passenger too !!!

  • Meals can be prepaid for $7 per leg (eg, $7 for MEL-KUL, $7 for KUL-SEOUL)

    • +16

What about vegetarians who can't eat legs ???

      • +3

Don't worry they have tofu legs too.

  • If only they came to Syd

    • -4

      NO Excludes Syd too !!!!

  • Tax on top I think.

Tax is a lot (more than the ticke?), isn't it?

Look like includes tax but I cannot find it anywhere on the site.

    • -1

Tax seems to be included in the price already…
      This is a GREAT deal~!!

  • so many comments but no-one saying its a good deal.
people are expecting too much. i see people saying it doesnt include food or luggage. well - you can get it if you pay for it.
And you are still paying a lot less than you would anywhere else.

    • -1

I can't agree with that comment, I think its a good deal but people want to know exactly what there getting with the deal and other additional charges.

Still tempted myself, even if they don't come to Sydney.

      • +5

"want to know exactly what there getting with the deal and other additional charges."

how much more clear can it get than this you moron:

        "Booking starts 4 Aug 2010 (2AM Melbourne/Sydney Time)

        Travel date 1 Nov 2010 - 11 Aug 2011

Pay Gold Coast - KL: AUD129 or Melbourne - KL: AUD159

        and then add on:
KL-Seoul, South Korea from AUD33 one way

The fare includes all tax and charges but excludes Convenience Fee, checked-in luggage, meals, and seat selection."

        On there he has written:
        Origin
        Destination
        Price
        Inclusions and Exclusions
        Travel Dates
        Booking Dates

What more do you need to know to "know exactly what there (they're) getting"??
Would you also like to know who the pilot is on the flight?

        • AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAA

well said. THIS DEAL FREAKIN RULLEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and you CAN bring your own food in your hand carry… i dont konw what everyone is going on about.

I just flew to KL last month

  • good deal! meal is cheap. price includes tax i think.

  • One way only?

    South Korea back to Melbourne?

    • Definitely both ways, so you are looking around $330 return.

  • +1

I think it's a good deal although I havent flown with AirAsia so I don't know how good the quality of the flight will be. It's usually around $1000+ for return airfares to Korea.

    • Dont worry, airasia is great as long as you bear in mind that they are a budget airline. Dont expect all the bells and whistles of full service airlines unless you pay for the add ons.

Also, they were recently named world budget airline of the year 2010 - passanger's choice. virgin blue came third (http://www.worldairlineawards.com/Awards-2010/lowcost2010.ht…).

    • -1

This is an excellent deal~! One of my friends recently bought a return ticket to Seoul for just under $1800. You can't get more of a bargain than this.

If you want to save $$ this is the best offer yet. Also, the current currency exchange rate makes it a great opportunity to go to Korea and spend spend spend. There are so many great things you can do there!!

  • +3

fantastic value - great deal to Korea

  • +1

@zack2008: Your calculation is wrong, the fare including tax is about $53AUD (MYR 99 ~ $33AUD, this is not including tax).

    • yeah tax doesnt seem to be included
e.g. taxes into KL is about $73 in addition to the fares

    • That is not right. KL-Seoul is advertised RM99 (inclusive tax) which is roughly AU$33-34. Check this out http://www.airasia.com/nl/nl100802oua7_my.htm

  • It's a deal from KL->Korea. not a deal from Oz->Korea
Air Asia has had their $129/159 one-way price around for weeks.

Tiger has a deal too!!!!! Singapore to the following!
    Kuala Lumpur from 45cents + $25 tax Penang from 45cents + $29 tax
    Kuching from 45cents + $34 tax Krabi from 45cents + $50 tax
    Phuket from 45cents + $50 tax Hat Yai from 45cents + $55 tax
    Jakarta from $4.50 + $35 tax Bangkok from $4.50 + $55 tax

Perth -> Singapore is only $149

    • Yeah, but airport tax from Changi Airport is higher than LCCT which makes it less attractive than Airasia sale.

      • +4

True but Changi Airport is more attractive than LCCT. :D

        • -2

          not to me.

LCCT has a food court nearby, cheap and good food. Changi NO THANK, I don't find Singapore attractive and I don't like Singapore. Things is as expensive as in Australia, bus and MRT is even more costly than public transport in Australia. You can buy a tourist pass (max 3 day) else it is quite costly to move around even though that country is just as small as a suburb in Australia.

I'd rather spend money in Australia for Australian than spending my money for Singapore.

          • +3

@samehada: Public transport fare in Singapore is pretty reasonable. For example, if my memory serves me right, MRT to the airport from the city is around SGD2.50, which is very reasonable/cheap imo. On the other hand, train to the city from Sydney airport costs like AUD15?

            • @shiba: Hop on and off a few buses to get around city and return can easily make you pay over $10. But I have to admit that Sydney transport is so expensive compare to Melbourne.

              • +1

@samehada: I disagree as well. Singapore is not expensive, especially not the public transport!

                • @flyt: Singapore can be expensive, but certainly not the transport. Have been going there for over 20 years and have steadily seen the prices of consumer goods rising to the point where the goods are still cheaper than here but only just - no longer one of south east asia's bargain meccas. Food and transport however, are both cheap and tasty.

          • +2

@samehada: Not only public transport is cheaper in Singapore but also taxis in Singapore are about 4 times cheaper than in Sydney

          • +2

@samehada: The only thing true about everything you said is 'I don't like Singapore.'

Because, if you think Singapore (in terms of Food and Transport especially) is more expensive than Melbourne then that can only mean two things:

            1. You've never actually been to Singapore (only to Changi Airport). OR
            2. You went to Singapore with a 'Rob Me' sign around your neck and ended up in all the wrong places.

macadamia is right. It's around $2.50 to get from the Airport to CBD by MRT which is pretty convenient considering that the train line runs right into Changi Airport's basement. The cheapest option at Melbourne airport which is convenient enough is Skybus which costs $15. You take a taxi and you pay around 35-40 to get to City. In Singapore, you take a taxi to City you pay 20 bucks tops.

And if you seriously consider food in Australia as the same price as in Singapore, then I'd seriously suggest you stop smoking whatever that's making you really really high. I'll admit KL and Malaysia in general is cheaper but if honestly consider Australia cheaper than Singapore then you're about as deluded as Apple fanatics that consider iOS to be as customisable and poweful as Android OS.

            • @ragflan: The cheapest a full meal including a drink in Melbourne costs me $7. Fried rice $6 and a drink for a $1 at Wing Loong. That same amount in Singapore will get me a train ride from the airport to Bedok, where I can eat a full meal and take a train ride back to Changi Airport where I would still have change for a wishing well.

It's alright if you don't know where to eat around Singapore, you can just admit that. But what you said reminds me of my colleague who got an iPhone 4 and asked if I'm getting one, and I said no I recently got an Android. He said 'What's that?' I showed him my HTC Desire and he said, 'Yeah they all copy iPhone anyway'.

He didn't even know what Android was and he made the assumption. What I'm trying to say is, don't be ignorant man.

              • @ragflan: Or 3. He just never take any public transport in Melbourne :).
Seriously, if anyone think the public transport in Melbourne/Sydney is cheap, you probably dreaming, need to travel more or don't know how to use your google better.
No, I'm not Singaporean, and I don't like Singapore, but their transport is definitely cheaper than here, with probably 10x the quality (so, in this case the normal "you get what you paid for" is simply untrue, due to the sad condition in our transport - sigh :()

    • Perth to Singapore is pretty cheap. Usually around $120 to $150. But then you need to add $108 in taxes to the airfare, almost doubling it. Still very cheap, but not as attractive as the headline price.

  • -3

It says 'does not include seat selection'

Do you have to fly standing for 10 hours? I've seen pics where in Asia some passengers have to stand, like in a bus…

    • +1

you hang from monkey bars set up along the aisles

      • hahahahahahahahah

        • Also I've seen pics where in Asia some passengers have to stand on top of the train. Hope Airasia give us some oxygen mask to stand on top of the plane.

    • +4

You desperately need some real world travel experience

      • No thanks, I'd rather have a seat…

        • Wow…just wow!

      • lol ^what ndiddy said. JV have you ever been on an aeroplane?

I was going to say "ever caught a flight", but then pre-empted your smarty pants answer would be something like.. "Why would I want to catch one? Is it a disease?" or even "why catch it? I im paying for a seat they should wait for me!"

  • It's a great bargain but not a good deal. Don't get me wrong, it really is a great price but if I want to go to Korea, I wouldn't fly 7 hours to KL first and then another 9 or so hours to Seoul which doesn't include waiting time and no food and no baggage. But there's a reason why this is OzBargain and not OzConvenience.

I vote positive on this being a bargain on how much you spend, but in my heart its a negative on how much I'd pay due to how much I spent.

    • This deal is a great unknown until 4 August when we can see how much the taxes are. That $33 airfare could easily turn into $200+ with fuel levies, airport fees, taxes, etc.

As for food, can't passengers smuggle their own snacks onto planes in carry on luggage? Drinks are a little harder, as security confiscate all containers over 100ml.

      • As I am saying the $33 includes airport taxes and charges. But the seats are usually limited.

Convenience fees is normally $5 per legs, so you can add that up. And as far as other things you want to add = $7 for meals, $10 for comfort kids, $10 for seat selection (otherwise, it will be given to you automatically). A lot of people bring food and air hosts normally just turn the blind eye on them.

        • $33 is NOT include tax & charge yet. You can click on the link to see the tax included amount of $53.
          Here is the link:
          http://www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion/rr021108.html

          • @samehada: There is some sort of conflicting values there. I cannot comment more to that then from this news report, it seems that the fare is RM99 (Base fare: RM74 + Airport tax: RM25) and according to AirAsia practice, the fare quoted must include taxes and no admin fee (the only exclusion is Convenience fee which is not included in the fare)

We will see on that date whether it is RM99 (or RM146) : http://www.airasia.com/my/en/promotion/rr021108.html

            • @zack2020: You are not familiar with Airasia. You should check the previous sale link or wait til 4/8 to check it out yourself.

There is no conflicting values here. The announced sale is MYR 99, this is sale fare announced in Malaysia, and on Airasia Malaysia site, they DO NOT have to include tax in the advertised fare. But on Airasia Australia website, they always advertised tax included fare. This probably because of ACCC rule for sale advertisement.

The announcement is for base sale fare of MYR 99, this is not included tax, that is why you see $53 in the link on Australia Airasia site.

              • @samehada: Again, I beg to differ… AirAsia always advertise all-in fare. They may have incorrectly quote MYR99 but it really is MYR 146. But beginning last year, they advertise all in fare including the base fare, regardless of currency and where it originates. We shall wait for the real price to come up on the website to see.

                http://www.asiatraveltips.com/news10/28-AirAsiaX.shtml : Base fare: RM74 + Airport tax: RM25.

Is this the most moronic comments section ever seen on OB?

  • +1

This is a bad way to get to Korea.
    What is the connection time?
And its not really a connection, it's 2 tickets. If the first flight is late and you miss the second, you are screwed.
Or stay overnight. Taxi to KL is one hour! No train from LCCT.

Air-Asia is fine if you want to get to KL, but bad if you want to fly on.

    • LCC travel is not meant to be for convenience.
Having said that there is a bus to KL for RM9, and there is cheap accomodation near LCCT if one wishes to stay overnight.

No schedule released yet as of how long the connection will be.

    • I think that's something many people miss. AirAsia provides no connections. Missed your next AirAsia flight due to a traffic delay, flight cancellation, maintenance issue? You're out of luck and need to pay full price for another ticket at very short notice.

Budget airlines run very tight schedules. They almost never have a spare aircraft and crew to use if a flight is canceled.

    • so far I have never missed an airasia connection, touch wood, even when only 1-2 hours gap. if you miss the flight at LCCT you have a number of options, including staying at cheap, clean and quiet Tune Hotel, catching an express 1 hr bus to the city, 1 hr cab to city, or mini shuttle to KLIA where you can take a 30min train to the city.

  • If you turn up at the aiport wearing warm clothes you get the option of holding onto the landing gear and they throw in the $7 meal for free.

  • It looks like a good to me, but …
if the flight is cancelled you are in a real trouble. and you gonna loose than you would notionally gain from the deal.
they should provide connection for the flights, then you woul get some level of certainty.

  • Hmm
    so is this right?
From Sydney, it would be $60ish for a ticket to gold coast, $160 to KL, $60 to Korea, $60 back to KL, $160 to gold coast, $60ish to Sydney? around a flat $500 for the round trip?
Including meals (for the planes) and baggage, how much would be sensible? Another $100?
$600 is a decent price still IMO

  • This is quite a good deal but its only 1-way sale like the previous BS sale to London so I'll give it a pass. I will wait for their next FREE SEAT sale then.

  • Some people are talking about the con of no connecting flights…

if something does go wrong, can it be claimed on Travel Insurance?

    • never had to claim but in case I did, my travel agent has always said yes it will be covered. check your policy though as it may differ.

  • I am not a big fan of budget airlines for various reasons:

    1. You have to book each of the journey legs separately which means if one of the flight gets delayed/cancelled, then you are screwed for the rest of the journey.

    2. Usually, the connecting flights are not straightaway. So you might have to spend a bit of time in transit.

    3. Luggage, meals are all extra charges.

My point is, if the airfare including meals, luggage charges etc., is only $100 or $150 cheaper with the budget airlines, always go for the other major carriers i guess.

Also, the budget airline airfares work best for a single leg journey. for eg., Melbourne - KL and/or KL - Melbourne

    • I had no issues with them when flying from MEL - KL , KL- PHKT and back. Just don't book any connecting flights. Suggest you stay a few days and then head off for the other leg.

Also get travel insurance. Must admit there were better deals last year for their anniversary sale. MEL-KL $99 and KL-MEL $50.

  • +2

I'd rather go to North Korea, it's best Korea… ROR.

  • If you miss connecting flights on AirAsia, travel insurance will NOT cover you.

  • The ad for this:

Pay Gold Coast - KL: AUD129

    is here:

    http://www.airasia.com/iwov-resources/au/en/images/AirAsia/m…

Says book from 2nd of August. When i try to, it isnt these sale prices….

    Anyone know whats going on?

  • Nice find Zackie boy! any koreans in the house?
This is frikin awesome man. One of the best deal to Seoul I've seen.
but are you sure there is a return flight back to the goldcoast or melb?

  • Pardon the ignorance! What is the "CONVENIENCE FEE"? Is it convenience as in toilet?

    • aka credit card fee

  • AU -> KL flight specials only appear to be valid for travel 3 Jan - 31 Mar 2011. Is this correct, as teh bargain specifies 1 Nov 2010 - 11 Aug 2011. This appears to be dates for travel from KL to Seoul.

    • Yeah its not for the dates advertised in the email its only for Korea even tho its in the some section with those dates. There sales have been very misleading latly

      • Also not seeing any $33 flights to Korea. Everything I'm finding is like $136. I call shenanigans on this sale.

  • which airport at what time is the flight?
how do we purchase a ticket i cant see the button to buy…

  • Air asia is full of bllshyt man.. I tried to purchase ticket from Goldcoast to KL and also from KL to Seoul but
it's pulling out the fedup price not as advertised.
