Just a really strong plastic smell which dissipated within 15 minutes. I have one on my desk right now and it's effectively odourless.
More of a joke than anything else, but I just clicked through to have a look. My God, it's as big as a horse saddle. But Xiaomi does make an air purifier. Two in fact.
That smell went away pretty quick though.
I've got one of the steelseries ones. It also had the smell, smells like tennis balls. The smell stuck around for a few days.
Using 2 of the black ones. They were bigger than expected but are great quality and work well.

It's smooth and doesn't slip off easily. Some mousepads have a terrible surface.

How do these compare to the Razor or Logitech ones?
While I have no complaints with the Xiaomi one I'm using at home, I prefer my Razer Goliathus mouse mat due to the stitched edging and slightly better construction. I've ordered another Xiaomi mat because at this price you can't go wrong.

I have a black one and love it. I use it as a basically a placemat for my desktop. I like typing on my laptop when it sits on this; it just give a slight bit of cushion since i am a bit hard on my keyboard. The laptop feels like it has a barely perceptible give.
Do you know if the softness would prevent proper air intake on the bottom laptop fans? Keeping a laptop on a bed or blanket is definitely bad, is this soft enough to observe similar problems?
it's typical mouse pad material. fairly dense; it's not that soft where it really sinks in blocks air intake.
People still use mouse pads!!
