  • is "Vodafone 4G Pocket Wi-Fi + 16GB Data $20 " SIM locked to voda?
    thanks

    • +3

I purchased one about 2 years ago. I am able to use it with Telstra SIM and Optus SIM after modifying its settings with Telstra APN configuration.

  • Made Ozbargain reflex purchase of the Vodafone 4g pocket wifi with 8+8 gig data.
Don't need it, but sounds cheap and I might need it someday. …
Thanks Trent86 for helping me spend my money ….. ;)

    • OK. Now that I've bought the Vodafone R215 pocket wifi modem - which has a nice LCD screen, I've got questions.

      1. How does this compare to the Vodafone R216 which looks more low end ie. no LCD screen

      2. Any difference in whether one or the other can be unlocked? Especially for overseas use when travelling?

      3. per this deleted post (ha ha!) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/292942 the R216 is available for $15, so would that be a better deal?

      • Old R215 is without LTE B5, while newer R216 has.

      • +1

If you were looking for the Modem itself, then R216 is a good deal. But if you were looking for the 16GB data included, then the R215 above would be better value.

  • Bummer, 30 day expirery for the 16gig.

    • From the date that you activate it? So 16GB for 1 month.

      • 8GB of data to be used in Australia within 30 days of activation.

        • I read the review:

          ★★★★★
          ★★★★★ 5 out of 5 stars.

          Simple to use
It takes a little bit of time to register the SIM, but after that just turn it on and wait about 10 seconds and everyone can access the net. It's good value 8GB that is valid for 3 months but the surprise is there is a bonus 4GB. It's not speedy but not slow either, depends where you are. Where I am Telstra 4G is quicker but I am happy with this. Sometimes the pocket wifi needs to be stopped and restarted. I don't know why but it usually goes for days without having to.
          ……….
          So
          8gb lasts 30days
          the other 8gb lasts 3months!?

    • Bonus 8GB Offer is for 1 day only.

If I'm reading the description correctly, only half of the 16 gig lasts for 30 days.

      • +2

I've activated my sim card, it says 8GB 3 months left, and under bonus data another 8GB with 3 months left.. Therefore I can confirm that the data is valid for 3 months.
I'm not sure when the 8GB Activation Bonus will end though, cant seem to find any info on the exact date.

Does anyone know if I can activate this $50 starter pack for mobile broadband 8 GB 180 day expiry?

    • +1

no, these are the old ones and not "combo starter packs"

  • Just attempted to order backpack & VF 4G for store p/up, all stores are stating p/up n/a & can't order for delivery as one item is p/up only????

    • Two separate orders?

      • they don't have stocks at your store..that's why

  • +3

The starter packs all seem to be the prepaid cap ones. E.g. the ones that can only be activated on the cap. Rather than the generic ones that can be activated on any prepaid plan.

From the photos, these are the older packaging ones with the prepaid cap printed directly on the pack. The new ones have a generic packaging then got a sleeve over it with either prepaid cap, prepaid plus etc etc. So when buying, make sure its the newer ones.

    • I second this. Hopefully it's just the wrong photo on the website.

Professionals are up early today. :)

  • It seems the 4G modem are out of stock in all NSW shops, and cannot be delivered.
    Any other options?

I want it, as I now using only 3G version.

    • Caringbah still has stock

  • Nice find!

  • The 4G modem on sale is model R215. Old stock. Vodafone currently sell R216H.

Dunno what is the diff though.

    • R215 is without LTE B5
      R216 has B5

  • Thx, got two $50 sims!

  • Vodafone 4G Pocket Wi-Fi + 16GB Data $20 - Fountain Gate in VIC seem to have stock, just ordered one. will come in handy one day.. hopefully.

i assume these are locked to voda? is there a way to unlock it once the 16gb is used

    • +1

You might not have to unlock it, I didn't unlock mine and I just changed the APN and used it with OVO.

  • Is it possible to use Telstra sim in the 4g modem?

  • +1

Targus backpack n/a for pickup on all Brisbane stores around me, RIP
    Delivery approx $15
    Great find though!

  • +3

$50 starter pack with 3gb data seems a bit steep.

Anywho, does anyone know the expiry date on these starter packs?

    • +1

they should activate as the new combo. it did for me so 8.5gb instead of 3

    • +1

The HN image of the $50 starter pack is a few years old. The $40 starter pack now comes with 6GB of data and the $50 starter pack comes with 8.5GB.

    • If anyone else is curious, i just called Vodafone to check. Prepaid sims are valid for 6 months from date of purchase.

      • Seriously? Then why doesn't it have an expiry date on the pack?

        • Yeah that would be nice, I'll need to refund one of my two sims for this reason.

      • I think you were given false advice. I have two prepaid broadband simcard that are made in 2012 and when I checked last night they are still valid.

        • Did you buy them more than 6 months ago? The one i picked up today has a manufacture date of 2014

        • @axeology: I bought them more than 4 years ago. I was surprised also when they are still valid when I checked them.

        • Sorry for the incorrect info

I have now called Vodafone support twice and have gotten different answers both times.

1 - Starter sim pack has an expiry date of 6 months
2 - Starter pack will not expire and can be activated at any time

I've also left a query on the Vodafone Community forums but no reply as yet.

      • Mods, please delete this thread (incorrect info from Vodafone rep)

  • +1

4G modem come in handy for travelling and using kogan cards in.

  • What was the final count of likes on the other duplicate deal?

    • Certainly more than on this one

  • Damn none of the 4G modems are available where I live, nor delivery :(

  • Is there expiry date for Vodafone $30 SIM? Heard no expiry date for any voda sim, really?

    • Think there's only the manufactured dates and no expiry. Not sure about the new sims.

  • +3

It looks like the cheaper modem is actually better.

The R216H ($15 no screen one) covers more 4g bands:
    4G Network Band: 800/850/1800/2100/2600 LTE Cat 4

    Vs.

    R215 $20 screen One
    4G Network Band: 800/1800/2600MHz

    From Vodafone specs and whirpool

    • +2

Yes, I just checked Huawei website, however R215 has longer battery life.

    • 8+8 gigs with a modem thrown in for $20 is still a great bargain imo :)

      • +2

Good bargain but those extra frequencies may well be useful, depending on your area

  • Seems out of stock for delivery for the 4G

  • just received a call from HN…out of stock Broadmeadows/Vic refund being processed.

    • I got one this morning from there.

  • I got one of the 4g modems 2 years ago and now voda has rolled out their new 4g network it doesn't have the bands for it which is disappointing.

  • +1

Heaps of $50 simpacks left at Preston

    • If you got any of them, could you please let me/us know what the expiry date is (if any)?

      • +1

No expiry, manufacture date of 24 October 2014

        • Sounds promising. Thanks for that.

  • When does the 8gb bonus data ending?
Also whats thr expiry on the data? Is it 1month or 3 month?

    • Did you get an answer to the question of when the 8GB bonus data will end ( meaning by when you might need to activate sim in order to get 8GB bonus as per this deal that ends Tuesday http://www.vodafone.com.au/mobile-broadband/prepaid/state/st… ).

I would also like to know this.

To answer your second question, you probably already know, but it's 3 month expiry on data.

  • Did anyone have any luck price matching from ow? No stock anywhere :(

  • The Jackery Black 315 powerbank is the same as Blitzwolf from bangood .Much cheaper at bangood than even the discounted price in harvey norman.

  • Vodafone 4G Pocket Wi-Fi

Is this one better or the Telstra 4G one on coles for $29.50?

  • 4g VF modern with 16Gb data is nowhere available near Ryde. And no delivery..

  • +1

can't seem to find stock anywhere on the 4G pocket wifi, but there are still stock in WA on the 3G in midland, city west and cannington if anyone is interested.
i am about to pull the trigger on one of these 3G pocket wifis, (for $15.. why not right?) i am trying to think of a reason why i shouldn't… any input anyone?
btw i wasn't so sure, so i just confirmed with the online chat, you will still be eligible for the bonus 8GB data, even if you activate it at a later date, but the deadline for that bonus is to purchase it by midnight tonight.

fun edit: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/phones… in the description, read the second dot point under key features :D

  • Last time I bought an ozbargain from HN with a bonus 8GB offer from an ozbargain deal, Vodafone didn't want to honour it, and it took about 2 hours and 6 phone calls and a visit back to the original HN for them to give me the extra data. Never again!

  • +1

The powerbanks are a rip off compared to Xiaomi

  • +1

    Hi
Just pick up one 4G and one 3G from HN Caringbah, hopefully it has 16GB each . Thanks OP .

    • Did you end up getting your bonus 8GB ( if already activated your sim )? I did, but have another and wonder if we need to activate before end of the 7th this month as this deal ends then http://www.vodafone.com.au/mobile-broadband/prepaid/state/st… ).

      • Sorry late reply, yes I have extra 8GB upon activating automatically .

        • Thanks. I was wondering if I activate the sim later this month or next month if I will still get the bonus data?
