And be prepared to be hit with big invoice from your specialist for in-hospital treatment where NIB will pay 0 cents to cover it. These gift cards are cheap lures for bad service.

Wouldn't that apply to any private health insurer?

No, to this date and afaik NIB is the ONLY insurer to not pay when the patient gets charged a "gap" from the specialist. Their argument is that they want to enforce "no gap" policy on specialists, but in the end it's their members that lose out from this battle.

The idea is to switch provider only to take advantage of the bonus $150, then either go back to your preferred provider or switch to another should a different sign up promo becomes available :)

For me, the cheapest NIB policy eligible for the $150 gift card costs $14.83 p/week after rebate, confirmation email with the code should be sent 45 days from join date, so…

    • If I switch, I'll be paying NIB roughly $100 for 7 weeks of cover and $150 gift card.
    • If I don't switch, I'll be paying my current insurer $100 for 4 weeks of cover & no bonus gift card.

I'd consider myself to be in the "low risk" group, young and in relatively good health, and the only claim I've made in the past 10 years is for the yearly dental checkup. Of course not everyone is comfortable with the idea of switching, but for others in similar situation as me, this promo offers the highest payout that I've found currently available.
