  • Thanks.. keeping my eyes open for a good priced SKX009K2.

  • +1

Hey 28, I'm not sure if you wanna include this in this post but I've found a cracker deal on the Citizen Satellite Wave. Can't post it up in it's own deal considering there are only 8 available but it's a good deal otherwise.

From Hong Kong but it ends up being $695.44 after C10AU and they are a very reputable business. These usually go for around $100 ish more.

    • I sincerely hope you don't mind, but I made inquiries and, as I suspected, that watch's price would render a deal posting acceptable to Moderators, who said …

Yes no problems to post that (8 in stock and stock levels updated immediately ie no wild goose chase). We'll add mod note if any reports about quantity. Thanks

      • +1

Haha I'm a bit tired now to go to the effort to make a good post for that, thought I'd just put it out there cause it's a killer price for the satellites. You're welcome to post it up, thanks for going to the effort with clarifying with the mods.

Thanks but if you're unavailable I second your original idea that our resident expert OP adds it here.

  • The SKX009K1 is on E - Global currently for $AU225 shipped (watch $206 + $19 shipping). The K2 is $AU236 shipped. I recently bought this watch from them and all went well. They currently have a 5% off sale.Pay in AUD.

  • Does the cau10 deal apply?
The sellers are based in Singapore…

  • Any decent ladies?

    • +6

They're all pretty ordinary where I live.

    I just got a Seiko turtle reissue, a PADI…
What a watch. You have to be able to carry a large-ish, heavy-ish watch to wear it well, but it is a real head turner. Luckily I am a large chunky man.
I have a couple of more expensive watches that this one, but it will be my go-to watch.
Great quality, the bracelet looks like it could withstand a drone strike.

Cheapest price I have seen for a Turtle. $258 is a steal!

Pity no 777. I bought a 007J from these guys just before Xmas for about ~240. Postage was painfully slow so if you want it quick, pony up for the extra postage if available. I ended up waiting 4 weeks or so for mine.

Had this deal been for the 777 I'd be all over it.

    • +1

I reckon the 775 is a better looking watch.

Never been a fan of gold on a watch but this one works.

  • the seller creationwatches has a srp777 - but as per my earlier question, these guys are all singapore based, so how does the ebay 10% deal apply?
I thought it was only for aussie sellers…

  • I wanted to ask other seiko automatic users this question and never found the right place, so this is as good as time as ever.

How much do you people find that your lose or gain time on the watch over a certain period?

I've got an SKX009 and it use to gain around 5 min per week, it got so annoying I stopped wearing it.

Is it something I'm doing wrong? it use to sit on my bedside table on all different angles… was there a magic position it was mean't to lay at?

I've only had it 2 years… I wouldn't expect it to be due for a service in that time, and I'm not keen on doing it either, jewelers around my area don't even sell automatic watches, so I have little faith in them doing a good job or making the issue worse.

    good prices +ive from me!

    • +3

Your watch doesn't need a service & won't for another 20 years or more. People don't buy an automatic watch for their accuracy, it's more about buying a timepiece and appreciating the movement.

5 minutes gain over a week is nothing for an automatic watch, that's less than 1 minute a day. You'll never be late to anything.
At the end of the week, just wind it back 5 minutes.

It sounds like you would prefer a quartz watch as they are a lot more accurate.

      • My Invicta automatic that I replaced it with doesn't have these issues and gets adjusted once a month at around 4/6 minutes lost or gained (only owned 3 months).

Maybe I am expecting too much, that or I got a below standard one… I mean these seikos aren't even made in japan anymore are they?

        • The differences between the Japanese and Malaysian versions are largely cosmetic.

      • You've pretty much just summed up my opinion of automatic watches. They're interesting, but obsolete pieces of technology which are mostly just fashion statements.

    • +2

5 min per week would do my head in personally. My SKX009 is running approx 7 second/day. The tolerance for the movement would be approx +/- 30 sec. Wait until you go on a holiday to the big smoke and get it regulated. My Miyota 8215 is +5 sec, Miyota 9015 (regulated) +4sec and ETA 2842-2 +3.5 sec. Haven't adjusted any for weeks.

    • +1

I think I lucked out in that my 007 gains/loses ±3.5s a day. Placement at night is critical in maintaining accuracy over longer periods.

For example, my watch seems to run fast, but I found that when sleeping, if I placed it in a vertical 3 up or 9 up position it would run slow so that it would offset the running fast during the day. Use an app like Watchcheck on android to keep track of it all (see here for an example http://imgur.com/a/KVNlR).

Saying that, 5mins a week is a bit much as the 7s26 movement is rated for better accuracy than that.

All is not lost though, you can get the watch adjusted so it's not so out if whack (regulate). Any watchmaker could do this for you for a small fee.

If you're brave you can even do it yourself with some basic tools. If you do, be very very careful as regulation is normally very subtle and it might take a few tries to get it perfect. Just look up YouTube for "regulate automatic watch".

Edit- tbh, a movement/light powered quartz (kinetic/solar) watch is a much better for day to day use imo. You get the benefits of it being super accurate (think 5s per year or better) as well as being able to go for years (10 or so) on a single "battery" (it's actually a capacitor).

See this YouTube video for more info https://youtu.be/1uxc9tDmJoU

      • Good info. I use Watchcheck too. Super easy.

        • 5 mins is out of the ordinary. Here's the thing, I never had an issue with Japanese movt. watches being accurate enough.

          Issues with Swiss watches though.

IMO a few mins a month isnt a big deal as you have to adjust once a month in most cases anyway.

The above movt. being 7s26 is a bit low end to me but you're paying for the case and 300m depth I suppose.

        • @tonyjzx:

Agreed 5min/week is not good. The 7s26 might not be the latest but I don't know if calling it low end is fair.

It's a proven movement and really only lacks hacking and hand winding which is why Seiko released essentially the same movement as their 4r/Nh movements but with those features added.

Tbh, at this price range, these entry Seiko movements are just as good as their eta/sellita (Swiss) movements but without the ridiculous process tags.

Granted the actual watches that contain Swiss movements are sometimes built better (eg Sinn) but imo the movement is just as good.

        • @tonyjzx: My Invicata 18160 sports the NH35A, which is reportedly the 7s26 with hand-wind and hacking, and I'm fast by ~9 seconds a day with sweet sweep action and needing a stethoscope to even hear the ticking. Then again, it's in a block of stainless that could stun a steer…

  • so my uncle wanted a Tissot Visodate. But those costs a bomb, any affordable alternative that you watch nerds can suggest ? :)

    • Seiko SARB033 or SARB035 are both comparable good quality dress watches and should be cheaper.

      • thx. Just had a look and they're around US$80 difference on amazon vs jomashop :(

        • Wearing the SARB035 one now, I also own a Visodate. The Seiko keeps much better time than the Tissot. The build quality is roughly the same otherwise.

    • Visodate is a great looking watch. It's not super expensive either. I would save for it personally.

  • Any good deals on watches with 33-35mm diameter faces? I have small wrists.

    • +1

These awesome 37mm Seiko Automatic SNK's are perfect for a small wrist. Look under Other Seiko SNK Colours in this post for one you like. Also check out the Seiko 5 range, usually cheapest at Skywatches.

        Thanks man!

    • You haven't specified your budget or if you want an automatic or a quartz. If you can do a quartz, I highly recommend the Christopher Ward C60 Trident 300 which is a 38mm diver with amazing build quality. The price is AU $283.09 which is 30%.

      • I really wanted something like this.

I find that a 33mm classic casio is a good size for me, but I was looking for something a bit dressier. I really like the Citizen-AR3015-53E-Eco-Drive-Stiletto-Black, but it's a bit outside my price range. I'm looking for something about $200.

        • +1

Just a few words of warning. That watch will be very hard to read at a glance, particularly in daylight. I don't think it has an anti-reflective coating on the crystal either.

        • +1

@ilikeit: Thanks man, I will try to have a look at in a store.

Anyone after a cheaper automatic watch might be interested in this J.Springs by Seiko which comes to $81.65 in the checkout with code C20TRENDY…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/J-Springs-by-Seiko-Automatic-Blac…

Apparently only 5 left atm though.

    • It is a cheap Seiko sub-brand. I think the autos the basic 7s movement which is good.

      • I did a little research on it, and it all suggests it's very decent for the money. Hopefully I receive it soon.
