Men Underwear - What Do You Wear?

Hello gentlemen of OzBargain. Just wondering what brand of underwear do you wear and how much do you pay for them?

The 40-50% Bonds sales won't do anymore because the products, whether briefs or trunks, don't last very long. The elastic stretches after only a few washes.

Right now I'm using cheap, generic underwear but they're not very comfortable, though they have survived more washes than any Bonds. Looking for something with more comfort and longevity - briefs or trunks no matter, I like to rotate. Please recommend me some brands, thanks.

Edit1:
A few Kmart and Aldi suggestions with attractive pricing. Shall try. A couple Uniqlo Airism suggestions, will also try.

Edit2:
Overwhelming response, thanks guys. Heaps of solid suggestions.
These look promising, thanks 2jzzzz.
The most popular seems to be Uniqlo Airism and CK underwear.

      • How much are they from Costco?

        • +1

          3 pairs for$34

        • @ms: Wow that's cheap, cheapest quick look I can find is 3 pairs for $51 @ Myer

    • +2

They are pretty cheap in Thailand

    • Myer has them on sale like 3 pairs for under $65 sometimes

    • +1

Costco. Else check out the DFO outlets. If you join their VIP membership (free) then you will get an additional 10% off

  • I bought these http://s.aliexpress.com/fa2Ifqay. Pretty good quality. The elastic smells for a little while though

  • +2

The ones that have lasted longest without spending $15 per unit have been Rio, [~ 2-3 years] and Emerson [~1 year]. I've found Bonds are and have always been the most over-rated made-to-fail junk out over the 30 years I have been in Oz.I had thought it was the Australian sun, but then noticed NZ made `jockey' elastic had survived until the fabric died, and ones I brought back from the U.K. and BRD were going strong a long time after Bonds that i had bought later had failed.

You could try hanging them out inside the pillow cases in summer days, but I suspect the elastic failure is a feature, not a bug.

  • Aldi briefs called barely essentials, comfortable, even on my big butt, nice fit, and a lot cheaper than bonds.

  • -7

You want guys to tell you what kind of underwear they wear?
    Would ask women that question?

    • +4

I used to do this, dont see what the problem is.

It would often lead to showing if you play your cards right…

      • And then you were kicked out of preschool right? ;-) Just messing with you.

    • +1

It's not like they asked for pics, seems like a normal enough question to me.

  • +1

Bought some CKs recently. Not really that impressed over my bonds staples.

    Uniqlo is good too.

  • Try Costco - they have 4 packs of various brands and last long. Tommy, armani, CK - not even sure if these are genuine but they seem to last longer then target and kmart ones.

    • I pretty much only use the champion from costco apart from some moisture wicking for sport.

only problem is they suck to swim in, but that more of a boxer brief problem.

From memory, they are $17 for 4 or something like that

    • The Hugo Boss ones are like parachutes. I have no idea why they made the leg bit so roomy. Perhaps if you have thighs like Forstemann or like a LOT of baggy material you can try those…

    • +1

Yup my case exactly… myer Calvin Klein 40 a pair…. Costco 3 pack for $30, buy 3 packs and then an extra 3 every year… as I get holes where the thighs rub…. still cheaper than bonds… I used to like holeproof but think they got bought over and the quality was trash theyre socks used to last and the last batch I bought were like ice skates on tiles they were so much plastic

  • I'm a big fan of Jockey Sport/Performance underwear (boxer briefs or midway trunks).
Good quality, great fit and support, great for activity and day to day wear (and hot weather), don't ride up. Can get them in a range of patterns now if that's important.
Not super cheap, but worth the extra for me, and can sometimes find on reasonable sales.

    • +1

Had these but after 2 months they were ruined. Had the performance midway trunks and where my quad rubbed on my pants, the fabric pilled and holes developed.

  • +4

    Commando 24/7
    One less thing to wash
Think of the savings and all the little dolphins and turtles being saved

    • +2

Don't you have to wash your pants more often (assuming you wear them)?

      • +5

Naah mate. He ripped his knob off when it repeatedly kept getting caught in the zipper. Put it in the mixer and turned it into feed for dolphins and turtles. :)

Saves money, no need to buy condoms… underwear… pay for dates/SO etc. Wow such savings!!11oneone

        • Im glad my tackle could provide for so many.

        • @captobvious: Username checks out

  • +2

Seriously ? Mark and Spenser in the U.K. Free delivery. Good prices and quality. The WHOLE of the UK wears them

    • +7

Sorry but I would rather not buy used underwear.

  • +1

CK - usually try import from Asos or something

  • +4

    Borat mankini

    • Very nice!
      *high five *

  • Costco had some Huge Boss underwear on sale before. I bought two packs of 3 (I think). Was like $23 or something whilst on sale. Not bad considering the brand and they are 100% cotton. My one gripe with the boxer briefs would be that the leg length is a bit on the short side. It would some times crawl up to my crotch and feel uncomfortable. Usually when I'm wearing tight pants.

Other than that, the Alpha 3 packs from Kmart are comfy.

Longest lasting pair of underwear I've had would be a pair of Bonds though. It's still like new - and I bought it in 2010. Gets worn once a week. Still in perfect shape with the elastic like new.

I hang my underwear indoors and rarely out in the sun.

    • I hang my underwear indoors and rarely out in the sun

      Why?

      • Sun damages the elastic if you leave it exposed for long periods.

  • Whatever the missus buys me, my lunchbox thighs don't work well with boxers so just the regular briefs do me great , also I never found boxers that comfortable

  • Calvin Klein

Quality has declined tho. May try those Uniqlos.

  • +1

If you insist to know, I am wearing Renoma Blushed

  • Bonds fit trunks - get 2 packs in the 40% off sales they often have a target

  • Ralph lauren from asos 3 packs around $60 ;)

  • The Aldi trunks are my favourites at the moment. The elastane in the fabric provides much needed support. I think I've got some that are over a year old and are still meeting functional requirements.

  • I buy whatever, normally from Kmart. I have a few pairs of Coles Mix brand trunks - I like them

  • Tradie long leg trunks… Canna hand a man more comfy jocks.

Built to last long with plenty of support to help reduce crack. Non tradespeople are also able to use without needing a white card.

Usually pick them up from Bigw when on special for about $15.

my 2c, as a guy who's gone from boxers to trunks (less jiggle in the wiggle)

    davenport were alright,
went to bonds, but they degraded quickly
went to CK's, but they weren't munch better than bonds
now on kmart alpha and they're comfier and are holding up really well … also managed to find fluro orange on special, so now i'm high vis in the bedroom!!

  • Bought a stack of Everlast boxer briefs years ago from The Hut for around $3 each on sale, still going strong.

  • Target cheapest undies.
I find Kmart undies too flimsy.

  • +1

Kmart Alpha briefs. Good value, comfy and lasts long.

  • Target MAXXs, they seem to be slightly more durable/thicker than the uniqlos I got. 7 for $25 at the moment, would definitely consider if I didn't already have a bout 10 pairs.

  • +4

Someone said: "why spend a lot of money?"

Because occasional or long-term partners like that. Because they are comfortable and look very nice, then you like what you see in the mirror. Because men and women feel excited looking at a nice body with a nice underwear (or at least a nice underwear), even if some people think it doesn't matter.

Just some possible answers, because this "why spend a lot of money?" can apply for underwear, food, beer, gadgets, mobile phones, etc. That's pointless. If I think that I should use MY money to buy underwear, socks, chocolate, games, cars, water or to hire a prostitute, I do it. People should learn how to answer the questions without judging. You could just say that you like the AUD 2.00 from KMART (or whatever).

BTW, I have had good experience with BONDS, and have been using some of them for a while without any problems (bought from COTD). I also bought some very nice underwears from BCNU, and I really enjoy them (more expensive, but I got 70% discount months ago).

    • +1

If there is a pair of undies that can make me like what I see in the mirror….SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! They would have to be made of unicorn horns ;-)

      • +1

Maybe a pair of nice undies plus review of daily habits, and psychotherapy? :)

        • Nope. Not even that.

        • @syousef: you should definitely try!

        • @tiagozt:

There are reasons not to…but I won't go into it.

        • @syousef: People make choices. But this is not therapy… haha… You can just start with some nice underwears… :)

        • @tiagozt:

While it's true that you can always make the best choice possible, sometimes the best choice is still a crappy one. The myth that the only reason a person may not like the way they look is just "bad choices" is one of the most damaging things I can think of, but it sells a heap of products and services. Too long a discussion…

        • @syousef: "only reason a person may not like the way they look is just "bad choices"

I didn't say that… When I said choices it was regarding the "no psychotherapy" (or, generally speaking, not reviewing or changing the things that are not going well, whatever they are)

        • @tiagozt:

          All good buddy.

    • I'm looking at cheap to medium priced underwear for the day-to-day going to work wear and tear.

Never heard of BCNU so thanks for showing this. I'll need to wait for a 70% off though (you shouldn't have told me they get discounted :P)

Might get a couple for the odd…special occassion ;)

    Ben Sherman and Diesel.

My gf thinks there hot so that's all that matters I guess.

    • +10

She's obviously not dating you for your spelling.

      • +1

If he's wearing both the Ben Sherman and Diesel, it's bought to get hot down "there". It is summer. :P

    • +1

My gf thinks there hot so that's all that matters I guess

Mate, the question was what underwear you wear Not what your girlfriend wears.

    • +1

      She thinks where hot?

  • DUPLICATED

  • For work or any activities I wear the 9 inch length compression style

    Nike pro combat
    Tradie black and yellow ones
    Alpha green ones

    Othertimes

    Calvin klein polyester

  • My current wardrobe consits of cheap chinese ali express underwear that probably going to cost me my junk in a few decades and uniqlo. I used to have emporia armani and calvin klein but they were crap

  • You can get away with anything in Rio.

  • Bonds (at sale price) comes in first for me. This is closely followed by Hugo Boss. These two brands have lasted me over 3 years. Calvin Klien, Emporio Armani and the ASOS ones start to tear or stretch after 18 months.

  • +1

i love that theres a public website where you can ask this shame free hahaha

  • Frank and beans. Get them on special.

  • Bonds at half price.

  • As someone else said, the Kmart Alpha work for me.

Personally I like the "relaxed fit boxer" which is longer, and not as tight as some boxers

    http://www.kmart.com.au/product/3-pack-relaxed-fit-boxers/96…

  • I've been wearing Bonds all my life, no issues at all with their products.

    • +1

bonds prices have gone up, while the quality has gone down.

  • +1

    Kmart FTW !

  • +1

Exofficio Give-N-Go. It costs about $30~40 in Australia. I get it for $7 each in Taobao China. Very comfortable and durable for sports, travel or daily wear.

  • +1

I have been trying on numerous undies of more than 10 brands since last year.
No one to seem to have mention this but MUJI is extremely comfortable and durable. The best part I reckon is there're not branded as visible as the other brands.
You can only purchase MUJI products in-store as this is their marketing strategy.
Other brands that also have stood out are Tokyo Laundry - you can get them so cheap on ASOS.

    • Good mention. I love their plain white t-shirts. Will try their undies too.

    • i feel like MUJI is one of my favourite brands around - high-quality textiles, simple accessible styles, reasonable (but not cheap particularly) prices, and minimal branding. not even obscure or hard to buy either, at least not in Melbourne with the big Chadstone and Emporium stores

    • Don't like Muji, far so expensive compare to Uniqlo :)

      • uniqlo is cheap because they either use less/thinner material or it's polyester. muji is just expensive.

  • +1

I always found it hard to get excited about buying underpants until I found these!
    exofficio exofficio exofficio!!!!
    exofficio exofficio exofficio!!!!
    exofficio exofficio exofficio!!!!!

BEST DAMN BOXERS ON THE PLANET! no kidding!

Extremely comfortable, good for gym, hiking, running, work, travel/holidays (they wash/dry real quick!) basically best all round ever!

    • +1

Surprised i had to scroll till here to find them, these boxers are the best undies by far. Threw all my other undies away and replaced with them these.

      They last really well too.

  • H&M boxer briefs. h&m usually tends to be nothing special, but the quality seems decent enough for me, price is reasonable ($15 for pack of 3) and there's no exterior branding or logos or text. just plain grey + black briefs that fit well and have lasted well imo.

  • +1

Who needs underwear when you've got a Kilt.

  • -1

got a bunch from cotton on factory outlet store for $2 each a while back, theyre very comfortable. i had a couple of pairs before that already that were my favourites, so when i saw them for so cheap i got about another weeks worth.
starting to wear out now though, wishing i had bought a months worth instead

  • Hugo Boss

  • I buy nice European underwear. Let me know if you wanna know my favs!

  • The Uniqlo Supima Cotton ones are the best! They are the most comfortable ones I've worn so far.
    http://www.uniqlo.com/au/store/men-supima-cotton-boxer-brief…

  • Banana republic
    96% cotton, 4% spandex
They are the best, nothing comes close

  • +1

    Frank and Beans
    https://www.frankandbeans.com.au/men/boxer-shorts.html
Soft cotton, good quality and around $10 each. I buy a 12 pack every year.

Did you know increased men's underwear sales is a predictor of a healthy economy!

  • Not really sure how or why, but Bonds from an actual Bonds store appear to last longer by a HUGE amount compared to the Bonds you get at places like Target or Big W. Maybe they buy the shit bits?

    • Yes, there are 'Bonds' and then there are 'Bonds'. i.e. the ones from David Jones / Myers etc are the good ones, K Mart etc are the crap ones. Try Bhumi! (see below).

  • Tuffys & Tuffetts. Australian-made and much better quality than Bonds (from which many employees moved after manufacturing moved offshore).

  • I stock up when I'm in the USA. I buy Polo Ralph Lauren at century 21 in NYC. Last time I was there it was about $15 for a 4 pack

    Comfort is key with underwear.

  • I use duck tape my self

    • Photo or it didn't happen.

  • I used to wear Bonds, until they went from '95% cotton' to 'unspecified cotton'. I'd splash out and get the top of the line from David Jones in a 3x pack ($75 or $25 each, which is DJ's version of 'a deal'). I know they are available cheaper, but I'm not interested anymore.

I've tried a few, had some Uniqlo Airsim for a while. Comfy, but these are 100% poly (i.e. plastic!)… no good.

I only just got onto Bhumi, an Australian company. Wow, these things are REALLY awesome. Fit + style as per Bonds.

95% ORGANIC cotton. Your balls are worth it!

    From the website:

    • Organic - Made from 100% GOTS certified cotton, no GMOs and no toxic dyes
    • Sustainable - Made using methods that do not cause harm to our natural resources
    • Ethically Made - Grown and made in Fair Trade certified farms and mills
    • Recycled - Recycled, recyclable and non toxic packaging

    https://bhumi.com.au/collections/mens-underwear/products/org…

And the best part is $29 for two delivered, $14.50 each. In hindsight I should make this a bargain!

Sizing is same as Bonds (L = L for me).

My misses went nuts in the store and we have their bedsheets etc as well. All awesome quality and good value.
