Hisense M7000UWG 55" UHD LED LCD Smart TV $1095 @ The Good Guys

410

Been keeping an eye on this 55" model for a while. Cheapest I've seen it. Ideally I'd prefer the 65" but it will be too big for my lounge.

  • Wasn't this cheaper around Christmas?

    • Just went back through the whole tv list from up to last November and this model was only cheaper by about $60 last month or a month ago.

In the 55" domain $1000 was pretty normal with some awesome outliers from $400 to $800 all 4k uhd but no hdr.

"Ideally I'd prefer the 65" but it will be too big for my lounge."

I got the 65inch when the last lot of deals were around a month ago for $1515. I can tell you, no it won't be too big! :-)

This is a great price for an amazing TV! Only outclassed by the OLEDs of the world and the top of the range Samsung. It's other downside is a slowish UI, but picture quality is best in class

    • I was going to ask about the UI responsiveness. Do you know of any competitor TV that has a relatively fast UI? My 4 year old pany plasma is not bad. My friend's 2 year old Samsung is bloody slow.

      • I actually ended up grabbing a Samsung UA55KU6000 last month. I can't remember if there was a deal posted but it was $1099 at myer. No complaints at all - it's really responsive and the built in Netflix app works well too. Plays HEVC files out of the box and should be able to enjoy 4K Netflix once NBN comes online

        • Good to hear. Yeah their Samsung was an older HD model. Need to buy a 60 to 65 inch soon. Hoping for as good blacks and better UI speed than my st60

  • Yeah, it's been this price before. I wish they started discounting the 50" version heavily to. As jsjc said, this TV sent shock waves through the industry this year by bettering much more expensive tvs. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the 50mhz refresh rate is good enough for sports like soccer? Can anyone with the TV comment?

50mhz is average, you'd want as high as possible refresh rate

      • +4

        50mhz is average

Hardly. That's exactly one million times higher than frame rate of European- and Australian-recorded video source material.

        • I have a sneaking suspicion they might mean 50Hz ;)

Refresh rate (Hz) and response time (millisecond) are two different things, though commonly are mistaken as the same. Response time and refresh rate both make up what's important for sport, as a low response time from the pixels eliminates ball trailing, etc, and refresh rate is how 'smooth' the camera moves. Unfortunately, manufacturers don't accurately (and in a lot of cases these days, don't at all) list a response time. You'll need to delve into an independent review for that information.

A little more information about refresh rate follows:

4K panels only come in 50/60Hz (sometimes marketed as 'motion clarity 100/120') or 100/120Hz (sometimes marketed as 'motion clarity 200/240'). A 'real' 200/240Hz or higher doesn't exist.

A 100/120Hz panel is more suitable for viewing standard TV that is broadcast at 24Hz (all Australian FTA channels and films from the internet or DVD/Blu-Ray), as 24 goes into 120Hz 5 times, thus no black frames need to be added by the TV - so the picture is 'judder free'.

If you buy a 50/60Hz panel, there will be judder present when the screen pans, as 24 doesn't go into 60, so the TV has to add black frames to display the content - and that results in judder in panning shots.

Hopefully that clears things up, not just for you - but for everyone.

Don't listen to what the brands and/or salesman tell you (unless it is absolutely listed as a 'native' refresh). Do your own research and find out the truth, not just what the salesman wants you to hear. Samsung (to use as an example) are the worst for it. Their entry and mid-range models are listed as 100/120Hz when they absolutely are not, that's just what they're marketed as. It's good to see Hisense actually listing the real native refresh rates.

But yeah, if you're worried about sport looking good on a TV - find out from a reviewer if it's good for that purpose (in particular, you need to look for a low millisecond response time for perfect sport viewing).

standard TV that is broadcast at 24Hz (all Australian FTA channels

None of Australian FTA channels are broadcast at 24Hz. Interlaced broadcasts are at 50 fields/s and progressive broadcasts at 50 frames/s. So, it's 50Hz, either way.

        • My Sony X9300D TV reports otherwise (25Hz for all channels, SD and HD) here in Adelaide. Not arguing, as I was wrong in my 24Hz statement (for broadcast TV, most internet content and DVD/Blu-Ray is most definitely 23.976/24Hz though and my maths and point checks out for those purposes), but just thought I'd let you know that my figures are different to what you're saying. ABC's broadcast delivery specs PDF on their website also says both SD and HD is 25Hz (I can't link from my phone but Google that and it should be first link).

        • @BradH13:

just thought I'd let you know that my figures are different

Familiarise yourself with the difference between field and frame rates.

  • Just noticed that the 50" version is the cheapest it has been so I'll post that.

  • Great deal. I bought this tv last week from JB at $100 more. The picture is fantastic, and the GUI is absolutely fine. The picture settings need adjusting out of the box (as with any TV) to get the best out of it, but throughout the last week we have had some "wow" moments at the picture quality. Sound is ok, suggest a soundbar.

Offered $1050 and got one at Osborne Park (WA). Still fits on the custom stand I made, so that's nice. I am guessing I could have got it even cheaper if I'd tried.

  • Input lag? What type of hdr? 8 bit 10 bit Timbuktu?

  • Bought one of these for $915 from JBHifi about 2 weeks ago.

    • About to go buy one, just wondering what are your thoughts on it and how did you go about negotiating such a good deal?

      • I'm no tech aficionado but I think it's a really solid TV for the price point. The smart TV software does more than I expected and no issues with the quality. I just told the guy I've got a few quotes from around town (which I had) and what was the best price he could do for me, take home straight away - it just fit across the back seat of my sedan but it was a very tight fit.

        • what car do you drive?

        • @PAOK11:

On older model Commonwhore. But if you value the interior of your car then you might want to get it delivered or put into a ute - it's an extremely tight fit.

        • Yep, I had have a 07 falcon and I had to get a friend to pick it up coz it was literally cms

  • As everyone says, the TV has great features and looks great. I was wondering if anyone could comment on mine exhibiting a slight glow from the bottom left corner (only visible in completely dark scenes). Should I try to swap it for another, or is this just what happens to some degree on mid-level edge-lit screens?

    • Got a pic?

Don't know much about Tvs but this one is cheaper

    • Older model

      • MMMMmmmm did you consider the Samsung KU6000 when it was 1095?

        • Saw more positive reviews for this model TV compared with the Samsung. Plus you get the extra warranty with Hisense.

    $19.91 per inch

    • I think that's about the going rate on Oxford Street.
