Shuttle XPC (Small Form Factor PC), NC01U3 ($269.10)

130
C10

These seem to be amazing deals… I'm wondering if they are too good to be true?

They are similar to the Intel NUC (very small form factor PC), coming with CPU, but need to supply your own RAM and HDD. Review well.

NC01U3 ($269.10): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282297347145 (10 available)
Selling for $450+ everywhere else I checked.

NC01U5 ($297): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282298480823 (6 available) - SOLD OUT
Selling for $500+ everywhere else I checked. This is the one I bought.

  • Older generation i3 and i5 (5th gen).

    • +7

That's not all that significant if there's a big price drop though. The last 2 gens from Kaby to Skylake to … whateveritwas has only seen very minimal performance increase and some power efficiency.

      • It's all about video and lower temps, ie potentially less noise. The key words are HEVC/x265, VP9, 10-bit, 4K, and hardware acceleration.

Take into consideration the GPUs can't be upgraded in these mini pcs.

    • Ahh yes, worth considering for those who only want the latest. I see the NC02U5 has 6th gen CPU, but runs around $700 locally (well more than double the price). Can't see they've released a model with the 7th gen CPU (yet).

Still think these deals represent amazing value.

      • Isn't there something to do with 4k HDR support or something that is only available with the latest kaby lake cpus?

        • 4K Netflix support is only available through Kaby Lake because it's the only processor to provide 10bit HEVC decoding (the codec Netflix uses) while all previous gens only use 8bit.

  • no more stock the i5 :(

    • That sucks, have updated the OP. Was the better of the two deals, though the other is still a good deal.

  • i bought a vorke v1 that has a celeron J processor, 4GB RAM, win 10, 32GB drive, space for another SSD / HD in the base, wifi + BT and 1Gbs eth, micro SD, 4 USB ports (2 USB 3), HDMI 1.4

Not the most powerful machine, but for $150 USD am quite happy with it. Would expect adding a proper SSD would improve the performance, but for simple web browsing and watching media it works quite well.

Think the PC uses around 15W

  • i5 is back in stock - 4 left

  • These have laptop CPUs and reviews complaining about fan noise. Something isn't right. Bios issue?
