  • Good batteries, and cheaper than eBay.. (eBay price is $32.99 for a listing including a charger)
Not such a great price for people who already have a charger though.

    • You get to charge 4 more batteries at once

    • For those that are preparing for the zombie apocalypse; these Eneloops have an amazing shelf life.

  • +1

I love eneloops, not a bad price at all if you need the charger.
Can we get any deals with just the AA's? I have more than enough chargers already.

Also, are these Australian stock? There are a lot of counterfeit eneloops floating around, especially in asia.

    • Pretty sure COTD don't sell fake products.

      • Nah i'm not saying they would. But COTD do parallel import products from asia from time to time, and there have been a few examples in the past of fake eneloops making its way into legitimate asian wholesalers without anyone knowing. A few incidents on DX is a noticeable example.

  • Only other place I've seen Eneloop for sale (aside from ebay/international);
    http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4c60c5bb02393b6…

    $29.95.

And I bought it from there just a couple weeks ago… Curse you COTD!!

If you live in Sydney, you can go to RYDA.com.au to source eneloop batteries. They have charger+4AA package for a little less (you get 2D adapter with this deal though) if you can go to pick up from their store.

    http://www.ryda.com.au/Eneloop-Battery-Charger-With-4xAA-Bat…

    • If you don't need the charger, you can get 4AA and 4D-Size adapters for $19.70 at Ryda which is an even better deal.

      DSE 4AA = $22.
      COTD 4AA + Charger + 2 D-Size adapters = $25.

If only Ryda was local to me! I don't need the charger, just the batteries.

      • I bought 2 packs too. Thanks for the information.
I really need the D-size adapters.
I have checked Ryda website. Eneloop (4xAA) NiMH Rechargeable Batteries $16.85, Eneloop (2xD) NiMH Rechargeable Battery Adaptor $9.85.

Is "4AA and 4D-Size adapters for $19.70" the price at store?
Or can you please post the URL for that?

        Thanks

        • Eneloop (2xD) NiMH Rechargeable Battery Adaptor $9.85 * 2 = $19.70 :) The adapter includes 2AA's

I just checked Amazon & Costco US via various forums.

Why are these twice the price of the US here?

          Eg
          Amazon 12AA + free US shipping = $26US
          Costco deal 8AA + 4AAA + Charger = $26US
          cfp Sanyo Eneloop Power Pack 8 AA, 2 AAA, Charger, 4 C + D Spacers $22.75US

Even with US to AUD conversion, we are getting ripped!

@Obs: Note that DSE DO price match! I went into the Northmead DSE/powerhouse store and got them to price match the RYDA online store and they only happily did it! Got 4 packs of 4xAA eneloops for $16.85 each.

Free delivery when you enter the code "PAYPAL2010" :)
        http://www.paypal-offers.com.au/fathersday/

        • Ah dammit didn't know about the free shipping, I would of gotten it from ryda instead >_<

  • Can the charger be use to charge individual batteries? or Does it need to charge in pairs like some chargers I have seen.

  • Awesome deal, just bought 2 packs. I was looking at these for my Xbox controllers. It's cheaper to buy this pack than a pack of just 4 batteries.

Hopefully they aren't fake, but I doubt you'd have any trouble returning them if you found they were.

  • Can any chargers charge eneloop type batteries?

    • yes. though you probably get better battery cycle life with oem chargers (only if its a smart charger. not this cotd one, which is a crappy safer version of $2 dumb chargers).

you can use any charger suitable for nimh to charge eneloop nimh.

  • D-Size Battery ???what it?

    • its a simple adapter that wraps the AA batteries with a D size plastic cover;

i got something very similar with LaCrosse BC-900 Battery Charger ; it came with some C-size and D-size shells.

The shells for the above only accepted one AA battery though; not sure if the eneloop can support 2 aa batteries in parallel or something like that

  • +1

they don't look fake; charger is a cheapie

    http://eneloop.com.sg/products/download/eneloopChargerChargi…

the one you get with the amazon.com pack is a lot better.

  • +1

Just double check, hOw many AA battery do we get? 4 or 2 only?

    • it says 4. 2 with the charge and 2 in the battery adaptor.

can remember when was the last time i needed a d battery

      • Thanks. I just confuse with this d cell.

  • Not sure about this one as the last Chupa Chup is made in Vietnam and Spain.

    • +7

You realise that Chupa Chups were invented in Spain? Chupar means suck in Spanish. Though the company's owned by a European multinational now.

      • That definition will come in handy. Thanks

  • Can the charger be used to charge other rechargable batteries. I.e. duracells etc?

  • as mshannon said, this charger is a cheapo 10hr charger. dont bother with it. it's only timer based charge control, which will shorten the life of the battery due to risk of overcharging.

  • I'm tempted to buy this but I hate having toe wait 7+hrs for it to fully charge… Does anyone know of a good for a rapid charger?

  • Just dropping by to say I love my eneloop batteries! I'd also be keen to pick up some more AA batteries without the charger. Might head down to Ryda. Will try to find the website I bought them off, as I think I got a pretty good deal.

    • Here's the site I bought them from:

      http://www.ozbatteries.com.au/

I had a good experience with them, however it seems their prices have gone up in the last 2 years. I originally bought the Charger and 4x AA batteries for $21 plus $5 delivery. It's now $33.71. (http://www.ozbatteries.com.au/ncmqn04a-e.htm)

What is it exactly that makes the CoTD charger a 'bad charger'? I'm pretty sure it's the same as my charger and it's always worked well. I looked at the chart linked above, and I'm not sure which one is supposed to be the 'good charger'?

      • sum it up in this way:

smart charger (good) - has numerous overcharge protection features, including deltaV detection, temperature detection, usually charges in less than 3hrs

dumb charger (bad) - no over charge protection other than a timer, usually slow charge, 7hr, 10hr, 14hr. dumb chargers are slow because if a battery is already partially charged, and put into the charger, excessive charge will cause electrolyte leakage and loss. detrimental to cell cycle life.

        • Where can we find the smart chargers? Do you have any recommendation? brands? models? shops?

          • @leiiv: i'd stick with major brands. sanyo, duracell, energizer, eveready etc.

as long as you make sure its a fast charger, they're usually smart enough.

one more point to bear in mind, is that 1.5hr or shorter charger is usually detrimental to cycle life as well, but they dont overcharge. the benefit is of course shorter waiting time.

personally i use a 15min charger. but anything less than 4hrs i'm happy to use.

          • +1

@leiiv: Maha C9000. I think you can get a discount through Jeff at Whirlpool.

        • Thank you for sharing. But not everybody wants to invest >50 bucks on a charger (I'm one of them : ))

  • Can any charger charge eneloop batteries. So a smart charger is one of those rapid chargers?

  • I also only need the batteries, just bought MAHA C9000 in a trip to US, no more charger required.

    • lol…EneSnoopy.

  • Bought these, thanks for the heads up OP.

Paid $10.95 for 4 non-rechargeable AAs at 7/11 over the weekend. Ridiculous.

  • I hope I don't offend anyone, but I cannot remember a use for D sized batteries that isn't dirty.

    • Maybe a torch ?

      • +6

maybe he can't remember a clean use for torches either

    • you will once you have a baby.
many of the large baby toys use D sized. :)

      • +5

looking at his D battery usage, i don't think he has to worry about getting babies…

        • +2

Now bring on the jokes that he should be using a smaller size. lol!

  • The batteries looks like the new improved eneloops which can be recharged up to 1500 as opposed to 1000 in the original eneloop. I have been looking for the new ones in DSE but they don't stock them yet.

    http://www.sanyo.com.au/products/batteries/rechargeable/4hr3…

    • I have been looking for the new & improved batteries too. The only way is to check the S/N or get the multi coloured ones

  • I was going to get this deal, but after reading a few replies and talks about MAHA C9000, I have to say Id rather purchase Powerex batteries & charger from Protag.

The main reason is, I can't stand waiting a whole day for 4 batteries to charge. Specially when I need them asap for a photoshoot…. I'd rather spend the extra money get a charger that does it in 1 or 2 hrs (even 15mins). Even if I buy their batteries or the Eneloop, the price isn't that bad, plus their batteries come with a 5 year warranty and their chargers charge faster.

A BIG Thank You to the guys that have directed me to the Powerex gear!

    • Be warned. Although the Powerex batteries are good, they have shorter positive terminal. Hence it doesn't work on all devices. I've already experienced this problem with Phillips Baby Monitor. For this reason, I am not buying Powerex batteries again.

      • hmm, i haven't noticed that with the powerex imedions and their 2700mAh normal nimhs. Battery compartments usually have springed terminals so it shouldn't be a problem really.. i'm surprised your baby monitor did.

  • Sanyo Eneloop batteries are good. Thanks for the post

  • Hi Has anyone got theirs yet? I just received mine today and there was only 2 aa batteries and the charger. Was I meant to get the 2 batteries and D adaptor as well or does COTD just hate me… :(

    • I just got the email today stating that mine were posted. That's quite slow.

You're meant to get the following:

      • Sanyo Eneloop charger
      • 4 Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries
      • 2 D battery adapters for AA batteries (just a plastic shell, really)

If you got less than that, tell them.

      • Thanks for the advice. Yeah i've sent it in. Hope they would do something about it. And hopefully not charge me postage again

  • Got the charger unit yesterday and the D cell adaptors today, pleasantly surprised that the adaptors came so quickly after receiving the email yesterday.

  • Quite surprised that I received 2 packs of D cell adaptors today. That means I've got 1 charger + 6 x AA batteries + 4 x D cell adaptors! Very good deal, thanks for the post.

    • +1

Sounds like you got half of fuzor's order in yours.

      • lol…good call.

        I'm hoping there's no issues with mine…!

        • Here's hoping that they're note fakes. Just got mine (3 sets) today!

  • Did anyone else notice that the colours of the batteries are different? At least the inner part is; white from the charger and grey from the D-adapter.

The writing on both are very different from the ones I purchased from Dicksmith last year. Just saying.

    • I ordered 5, but only 1 came so far. grr.

The ones that come with the charger are the newer 1,500-charge ones, the ones in the adaptor are the older 1,000-charge ones.

  • +1

Got my order the other day and can confirm they are Australian stock not imports. The charger packaging has a Clean Up Australia Day logo on it and the website is listed as .com.au on the packaging as well.

These are back on COTD today for their catchathon if anyone missed out first time round.

They were only sent in a satchel through Australia Post and got pretty knocked around by the look of it. The packaging was a bit worse for wear but the charger/batteriies were in tact.

    • Got mine today as well. Batteries made in Japan; charger and D adapter made in China.

Regardless, I planned on giving away the dumb chargers anyway, as I already have a smart charger which I'm happy with.
