I've got approval to do them for $15 for a limited amount..

      • How many will you do for $15? Gotta speak to the other half to see if she wants a dash cam…

        • I can hold one for you.

      • I'll PM you

  • Rep, is it true Blackvue cams don't like Sandisk cards?

    • +1

You need to run a class 10 card but they can be a little bit picky on the card you put in them 99% of issues our customers have with these camera's are related to using non genuine SD Cards…

      • Good to know, thanks!

99% of issues our customers have with these camera's are related to using non genuine SD Cards

Can you please provide the source of that statistic ?

Just our experience as a retailer.

      • Can also confirm my Blackvue is not playing well with my Lexar 633x 128gb, keeps restarting.

Ordered in a Lexar High endurance to see if it will make a difference.

Personally I would wait for Street Guardian's dual dash cam to come out.

    • true, you need MLC flash based cards.

    • It’s not just Balckvue, but dash cams in general don’t like Sandisk, including their Enduro range. They seem to run too hot and struggle with the constant writing. I have had a Samsung Evo 64GB in mine for a few years with no issues. As I have now switched to constant recording will be looking to put in a 128GB. 64GB gives me about 13hrs of recording at the highest settings (2CH). The Blackvue cards are insanely priced.

      • My experience is the complete opposite of yours. I only have Sandisk SD cards, 2x 64gb and 1x 128gb in my dashcams (in 3 vehicles), none have failed and one of them have been running for 4 years (in blackvue cameras, all cars now upgraded to DR650s-2ch for the past year). However, I bought a Samsung Evo 128gb… that thing failed within a month, can still read the card, just cannot write to it.

        • Interesting, as always, different experiences all over. I spent a good deal of time reading about cards and dash cams the other day, and the general consensus form all installers I saw posting, and a few brand reps, was to stay away from Sandisk for the reasons I mentioned, as the failure rate was insanely high. More of a “when”, than “if” they fail. Lexar had opposing views with lots saying they were great, and an equal amount saying they were as bad as Sandisk. Samsung was the one constant in the advised column. I did see a user that was having good luck with a 256GB Sandisk, which is doubly odd as the Blackvue is supposed to top out at 128GB on current firmware.

        • @snuke:
Ive had a Blackvue since 2011 in both mine and my wife's car. They both have 32gb SanDisk cards in them and we've never had an issue.

  • do you do installation?

    • In Sydney metro area we can provide installation services not something we advertise yet.

  • How do these fair in hot weather and direct sunlight for extended periods of time?
Living in Perth, the summer days can be quite hot and parking the car in the sun all day, 5 days a week, the inside of the car can get quite hot. Any known heat issues?

    • +2

I got my 650-2CH after I saw it in a car in Perth. That owner had no negatives to say about heat issues.

    • +2

I have had 2x complete failures of 650w2ch (non-S model) that have bothfailed in park mode during warm to hot weather. Getting back in the car after warm day the blackvue for me has always been very hot to touch. Both failures are 8-10 months of use.

I wouldnt buy blackvue ever again.

      • What was the warranty return process like? Simple & quick?

        • +1

I guess you would have to prove that it was still within the operating temp when it failed.

If the product is used outside the optimal temperature range (-20°C – 60°C / -4°F – 140°F), performance can decline or malfunctions may occur.

        • In first 12 months no problem, easy (but took a while as I'm in NSW and blackvue distributor is in WA), now that has failed (18 months or so into ownership), they're saying out of warranty and asked to pay for repairs. Very annoyed that a premier unit is only designed for 12 months.

@snuke: wonder what they expect a camera that does park mode to experience in Aussie weather?

        • +1

          @womble:

          only designed for 12 months.

That would be the warranty time, not the designed use, hence Aus Consumer Law saying Reasonable Time, not what the manufacturer states. However, if it is heat related, you would need to be able to prove it was below the limit, and with temps in Aus above 40, getting above 60 in the car is easy as hell.

        • @snuke:
Unlikely i have to prove anything (I'm unclear of why proof of anything is needed?) the device is sold in Australia by Australian approved distributor, if it cannot handle Australian weather it should either not be sold here or have a thermal cutout.

        • +1

          @womble:

I understand where you're coming form, but there would be a million products here that have variable usage ranges they are suitable for, and in some cases your personal requirements fall outside of that. So when you do due diligence on an item you are purchasing, you take it into account.
I know the temp range was a consideration I had when seeing if the Blackvue was suitable for me. And as per EdZz question, something they have made sure to cover before buying.

    • Get a capacitor model but as others have said if it's a really hot day there's no stopping any model failing.

    • I couldn't be bothered taking out 650-2ch when parked out in WA sun. So far since 2014, both cams are still operable. Touch wood!

    • thanks for the feedback everyone.. still unsure, i've read/heard good AND bad things about this model and dash cams in general. Just wished there was at least a shied/shade thingy that goes over the cam to help protect it from direct sunlight. >$400 is a fair amount of money, but guess it could be invaluable in the case of an accident

      • i suppose you could modify an existing suction cup-equipped sunshade but if the car is parked out in the sun, the car will get hot regardless. electronics and heat just don't get along :(

  • I'm sorry for asking but are they 4x better than a G1W-CB for example? Not trying to bash or anything just curious.. I have a C1W-CB and it has been awesome.

    • ok, just had a quick look at the link and yes it looks like a lot more features… I'm still happy with my cheap and cheerful G1W-CB :)

  • thanks for listening to us :)

    • My pleasure :)
