Thanks OP for the listing, I was looking to get this one soon (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/sony/sony-xav-ax100-…) just for Android Auto but you uploaded this just in time. Thanks HEAPSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! :D

    • Hey Kazjay51 - if you like the Sony, I got JBhifi down to $520 for one last week. I don't have my receipt handy, but I just told them I was waiting for their 30% off audio sale, and asked how cheap they could do it now - they had no problem getting it that low - as for functionality, it is sooo awesome

      • Oh hmm but I have one of these in my car and its brilliant but thanks for letting me know!

  • 18 months ago I was after a GPS car stereo and was shocked at the prices. I ended up at a web site called carjoying (yes, Chinese) and got a fully featured android car stereo for well under $500.

The guy on the web page is very responsive and there's plenty of info you can read in forums across the net. As it's full android on the receiver you can do pretty much anything with it and I use Trigger to automate things when I jump in and out of the car, with both my phone and the receiver. It has the Play store on it so you're free to put any apps on there you want.

    • Any regrets on getting the H/U? What model are you using?

      • +2

No regrets whatsoever, i'd strongly recommend as a cheap upgrade to a normal car stereo. The GPS is great, reverse camera works well and I can put whatever apps on there as I want. So I tether my phone to give it internet access and the Bluetooth works well for phone and streaming purposes. I installed Nova launcher, but as it's full android you can install and layout however you wish.

As stated by f3l1x, if you spent lots of cash on a speaker setup then a cheap head unit might not be the way to go. It'd you want something cheap and feature filled this is a great option. 2 year warranty and well supported by the site admin.

The models were hard to work out, I just went the highest resolution double din one. The different prices usually relate to what extra peripherals are included like camera and microphone. Just contact the site admin and he can explain stuff.

    • I have a similar head unit (Eonon) for my car. They are great but to be careful when recommending as a unit like this from Pioneer will have an excellent sound processor but the ones on the Android head units from Chinese manufacturers have pretty terrible ones. So if you are really into having good quality sound then you might be disappointed/have to muck around buying extra hardware to make it sound better

  • This is a fantastic H/U, if you are in the market to get one…..do it!

  • I was looking at similar on AliExpress last night, obviously you get what you pay for (no brand name or local warranty), but they have fully featured Android 6.0.1 units for under 1/3 of this price.

  • My solution was to get a cheap JVC blue tooth head unit ($89) and a Xaiomi Mi Max ($240) and a set of 4 kicker speakers at 30% off. Very flexible - I can use the phone for GPS/OBD/TV/SDR/Phone/Tunes/reverse cam/DVR or connect the bubs tablet for disney movies. I use the phone out of the car too.

How are you using the phone for reverse cam by the way?

      • Wi-Fi IP camera with IR illumination and an app on the phone "IP Cam Viewer". JVC has an android app to control the head unit too.

  • How's this compare to the SONY XAV-AX100 (is $588 right now)

  • Thanks op purhased and just signed up to thank you

    • Good to hear mate. I'm still happy with mine. I got a harness for mine so it interacts with the buttons on the steering wheel. Makes a big difference.
