  • looks good but :
"…If you are interested in purchasing this product, please complete the form below and you will be contacted by the retailer to arrange payment and delivery. There are no Skimp fees and Australia wide delivery cost is capped at $10! "

means we must deal directly…. hmm safe ?

  • This sounds fishy..

Is this some kind of cover-up like the Australian Whisky fiasco before?

  • Skimp actually connects customers to the retailer who can offer them great prices on products. Skimp simply helps people to find best prices or product specials.

So if a customer is interested in the product they are connected directly to the bricks and mortar retailer to make the purchase. It actually makes it safer for the customer as there is no third party involved.

    • So Skimp is like a middleman which puts the buyer directly in touch with the supplier?
But why isn't there an online payment gateway, surely there is no need for the buyer to call Skimp just to arrange a payment method?

  • is this LED Backlit?

  • Skimp's primary offering is actually a buying group - using bulk buying power to negotiate prices with retailers on behalf of consumers. We can typically save customers up to a few hundred dollars on their purchases using our retail contacts and buying power. So Skimp isn't a retailer itself and therefore doesn't hold stock or sell products directly to customers. We simply provide a service helping customers to cut through the pricing clutter in the home electrical & white good industry.

In this instance Skimp is able to offer customers a product at a special price via a retail partner. The buyer doesn't need to call anyone. The retailer will call the buyer to finalise the purchase.

  • Hi Iplau,

It's actually a Clear Photo LCD screen. Check out this link to the Sony site and you can see a bit more about the screen (rollover the blue link) http://www.sony.com.au/product/dpf-d72n_bq

  • so usually how long does it take them to call you? haha.

  • Usually the retailer will call within a few hours of an order being submitted however we do ask customers to allow up to 24 hours.

  • hmm i almost "interested" in this one but hey COTD has similar deal, 8" not 7, with led backlit, mp3 and video aswell.
the only thing this sony is better: remotecontrol

i think i will go with COTD

    • Only reason i brought this was because of aesthetics.
      My wife loves sparkly things.

She would have said "omg what a waste of money" if i brought the one on COTD.
But since this one looks nice, and I'm sure she will like it, she'd say "nice buy". haha

  • Low resolution 800 x 480 pixels. No standard USB flash drive input, only mini type B usb. Sony has deleted this model. Wait for the higher resolution models. Ask your self, why is this model reduced from $179? It was never worth $179. I would say offer what it is worth, about $30. Give this one a miss.

    • Most 7" ones are lower than that resolution though. Therefore not really that low. Cant seem to find ANY (even the newer Sony Models or any other brands) which have a 7" which is higher res than 800x480.

Also its a Sony… you should NEVER follow Sony's RRP price, they are usually extremely exaggerated.

      • Low resolution is low resolution, however you wish to spin the facts. 800 x 480 resolution is a joke. Wait for the new models with higher resolution. $30 don't pay more.

  • Dispatch of the item appears to be a little bit slow… been 2 days, still no email about item dispatch.

  • Hi Iplau,

You should have received a call about the item? Please let me know if not. I'll follow up the dispatch for you too.

    • I have received the call on Monday, they have took the money from my credit card. Since then haven't heard a thing from them about dispatch.
Can you please check with them on dispatch? What is your email, i can email you my details. Thanks

  • I have checked with the retailer and the product was dispatched yesterday. If you need any more info you can contact us via admin_at_skimp.com.au (replace "at" with @ and remove underscores). We are also contactable via this form http://www.skimp.com.au/Contact_Us.aspx
