I'm pretty sure that the people signing up for this via ozB are going for the free points and/or balance transfer … and will pay off the balance within 55 days each statement period and then either cancel or re-negotiate upon 364 days, making it a good deal.

      • -2

        Perhaps but:
        1. Some banks wont refund the annual fee once it has been charged to your account. Not even pro-rata. Any delay and its a very expensive proposition
        2. You might earn the points but then you have to find a way to spend therm before the 12 months is up. I mean is it really worth the hassle?
Its like driving 10km to a petrol station that is 5c cheaper than the one up the road.

        • +1

This is nothing like your petrol example!!

          Rules for credit cards:
          1. ALWAYS pay monthly balance off in full. DON'T get a credit card otherwise.
          2. ALWAYS cancel before annual fee is charged, or negotiate another free year
          3. ALWAYS meet the spend with your regular purchases, don't buy something for the sake of it.

Love these free points deals, wouldn't have a guaranteed $10724 in Gift Cards or $54,824 of business class fare values without em! :). At an annual fee cost of $998. Minimum $9000 in benefit

NO reason not to take up this card….still got an active online account 4 yrs after cancelling my old Westpac Global Rewards.

        • @Coops1: Wowsy, how long it took to collect those bonus treats?

        • +1

          @JetBombat:

Close to 3 years now, so a little while. I use to use my westpac altitude points for Harvey Norman gift cards ~4yrs ago :(

    • lol

      • +1

        Exactly!
Now who is on their high horse????

        • Yea ill take that

        • But no one is going to keep this card after 3 months

    • This is for people chasing QFF points not people after a no annual fee

  • Credit card being sent out email states this :

    Credit fees and charges
Annual Card Fee $395.00 annual fee. Charged to your account following the first cash advance or credit purchase transaction and charged to your account in subsequent years on or after the anniversary of the first charge.

    • +1

did you apply for the account from inside online banking? you will probably have to call them to get the fee waived if not

      • Yeh set up acc then went to credit cards and apply online after being logged on my name and couple other details where auto input so I assume it worked are other peoples emails stating no annual fee for 1st year ?

        • +1

may be there standard email template, may pay to give them a call or wait to see if you get charged

        • +1

          @rusty2k:

oh yeah it looks standard, mine shows the fee also

        • @redfox1200: mine just says this with nothing about fee or credit limits

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that your Credit Card application has been completed.

          Next Steps
We will be sending you a letter / email over the next few days with further details.

        • +2

          @jabroni:

yeah the next email you receive will show the fee.

  • Anyone know how to add additional card holder is it after activation as I didnt see any option on sign up.. unless I missed it.

    • You can add after activation from online banking -> services

  • Conditionally approved @ 1230pm
Checked my SPAM mailbox in gmail and they asked for my payslips striaght away which is good.

I got approved for $15k limit lol - I hope they can reduce this for me, i dont want such a high limit

    • For Black its the minimum.

  • +1

Considering it also has 6-month purcahse interest free period, I think there is potential for some real bargain here. But, what to spend 2.5k on?

  • I must have put wrong salary … they approved $60000 card… probabaly they will be calling soon to confirm

    • $60K credit limit? dayumm better do balance transfer mate.

      • don't thing they approve it.. will see

  • Does anyone know if Westpac will issue a different card number for the additional holder? I want to request one for my partner to use for Amex offers.

  • -1

can you pay off a government tax bill and get points on this?

    • Nope; it's explicitly excluded in the terms.

  • How do you get the actual points? I've never done a qff bonus cc before

  • +1

Got my platinum card approved on saturday so hopefully the cards come very soon.

FOr those who have received them, can you confirm the annual fee will be $0 for existing customers?

  • This is interesting:

0% p.a. on purchases for up to 6 months from card approval

    What's this all about?

  • Just got approval today. Now waiting for the snail mail.

    Thanks

  • I'm going to try claim 50,000 sign up points Qantas and then switch to Rewards, is there a safe way to do this?

Think I'm just going to wait until the 50k points clear and then switch.

  • +1

I signed up for this and have been approved. Cards arrived in mail yesterday and have submitted a balance transfer which has been approved and plan to take advantage of the 0% for 6 months on purchases too. I think it's a great deal if you can use it to your advantage (points + 0% interest) but I have to say that the process hasn't been an entirely 'friendly' experience and I have applied for that many cards over the years that I know what a good benchmark is. It's not that they have stuffed up on anything, it's just that requests seem to require a lot of time on the phone with a rep along with inconsistency of information in email / phone communications. Even a simple request of setting up a PIN hasn't been so straightforward.

    • yeah rang to close up the esaver/choice and was told 3-5 working days

rang 6 days later and got put through to a closing team after on hold for 15 mins only to be told they cant access closing accounts on the last and first day of the month….

seems like incompetence in the call centre

    • With the 6 month interest free on purchases is there any requirment like pay the minimum each month to avoid fees?

As for the application mine was super simple no calls no visits to banks cards arruved activated online and started using. Only had to submiy 2 payslips via email.

      • Not too sure but I plan to pay the minimum each month as I would assume there would be interest charged otherwise.

Good that you had a better experience. Mine seemed to be complicated by the balance transfer requests.

    • Do you have to show actual balance on existing credit card for the balance transfer? How is the balance transfer paid?

      • +1

Nope, I didn't have to at all. I have actually transferred more money from Westpac card to other cards (so they are in positive balance now). Plan to live off the positive balance on the other cards while taking advance of 0% interest free on Westpac. The transfers were done after my card was activated. There was a bit of a stuff up on mine but they went through fine after a few days the card was activated. The money is directed to your external credit card accounts.

        • Thanks.

The process was pretty seamless for me. I applied for a higher credit card limit and balance transfer amount then I was approved for. Once approved I received an email stating the balance transfer amount would be based on the new limit and that if I wanted to proceed then I was to do nothing.

The funds were then transferred to my other credit card, ANZ black card, from which I was able to transfer excess funds above credit limit to a bank account at no fee via their online portal.

  • anyone know where you can find out what Qantas Frequent Flyer number you put in when you signed up, in your account settings when you login?

    Something i cant find :(

    • download your statement in PDF format and it should be there.

  • Spending $2500 in 90 days as a single ozbargainer -_- I managed to pull that off recently for ANZ by paying off my car insurance and some other major bills in November-January.
Now to replicate this for Westpac. Through ozbargain, I discovered cash rewards and been buying wish egift cards at 5% discount. Is there an equivalent for coles group/ coles myer gift cards (they have 2 year expiry)?

  • I'm assuming that it's spend $2500 and it doesn't matter if you spend it across both Mastercard and Amex cards I got sent, right?

    • +1

      No it doesn't matter

      • Cool. Cheers

  • -2

has anyone tried booking a business class refundable ticket to meet the min. spend? who did you use and what did you book? first time doing this points hacking stuff.

    • Points would be taken back upon cancelling the flight.
You could try this, cancel the card after receiving the points and let us know. Not sure if when cancelling a flight you can ask for a refund to a different card or cheque.

      • +1

I doubt they'd do that. They've already purchased the points, and Qantas wouldn't want to be refunding them easily (or cheaply).

  • Is it not possible to sign up the Amex card for a new Amex account and therefore receive the monthly Amex offers like usual?

  • This card comes with 0% p.a. on purchases for up to 6 months from card approval, does it mean that I don't have to pay Westpac anything even the Minimum Payment Due ? I just got a statement today and wondering if I should pay the Minimum Payment or not. Thanks.

    • +2

you always have to pay the minimum

  • Tried to set up a reward saver account to apply for this card. Went into branch to provide identification- took them 10 minutes, only to have them say that there was a system issue and that they would process it later. 3 weeks on and no contact/confirmation from the bank. Westpac are a useless bank.

  • I just remembered about the 0% on purchases for 6 months while reading over this post…

Any of you guys received the bonus QFF points yet? I just got my first statement and no mention of bonus yet.

    • Same, $2550 spend. No 50k, but AFF user was reporting points posted around 6 weeks after qualifying spend met.

Blimey, paid the full balance off, always do. Should I just pay the minimum, and let the purchases build up to account limit?

      • +1

I'll call tomorrow to confirm the 6months. I'll take advantage of the offer. Already have $7k on my first statement (rates, insurance, etc…) so wouldn't mind a 6m free loan.

  • I havent received my bonus either, let see what they say after 3months though

  • Same here 5 k spend on first statement and no points. Will wait.

    Thanks

  • got a feeling they will credit the points to you AFTER you pay off $5k from your card

    • First statement paid. Now waiting.

  • points received on 2nd statement

    • Just got my 2nd statement, how long did it take to appear in your QFF account? and is that the only place you see the points when it gets first posted?

In my 2nd statement it shows Bonus Points Earned: 0

      • got my statement today, but it shows "Bonus Points Earned 50,709" so it should be in my Qantas account tomorrow or the next day i would expect

        • lucky you. when did you meet the 2.5K spend? mine was on 18th April.

        • +1

          @FeZZa21:

would have been the first week of april i think. i reckon you will get yours on the next statement

        • wasnt it $2500 over 3months from the day you applied?

I've spent $4k over 2 months and still no bonus points - my 2nd statement only yesterday though - bonus points say 606pts…..

edit/: worked out that I'd spent $2500 on the 25/4 as well

        • Are you paying off the balance to receive the bonus points or not required ie using the 6 months interest free in purchases ? Thanks only ask as ive spent 7k with no bonus points but havnt paid off the balance yet

  • Hi anyone avoided the annual fee?

    • yes, no annual fee here

  • Can confirm stayed on the phone for a very long time while they went away and "checked a few things" then removed it

    • How was the annual fee charged?

  • Received the bonus points on the second statement and my Qantas account today 22/05.

  • got the second statement and still no points. Anyone in same boat ?

    • You paid off your balance or using 6 months interest free ?

    • Yes mate. I am still waiting. Met the spent on 25th May. Cleared off all outstanding. But still no bonus points/

  • Paid all balance on first statement. Now about to pay the second one. Will give them a call to discuss further. Thanks

    • How did you go mate?

      • Got the points in 3rd statement. Cheers

    • Any luck?

  • vaurynynr, i'm in the same boat, have paid off the first two invoices but haven't received the points. Keen to know the result

  • +1

I'm on the same boat as well. Still waiting for the points to arrive.

  • Second statement no points 10k spend had no problems with anz… are we ment to wait longer ?

    • Same here. Going to check my third statement. If my free points aren't there, I'll call them

  • Still waiting on my points too. I would have hit the spend quickly.

  • Just got my 3rd statement and still no bonus points! I made my $2.5k spend back on 15 April. So based on T&C, I should be getting my points by 12 weeks from meeting the spend criteria, so going to wait until next statement before calling them up.

    • my 3rd statement comes tomorow so i'm hoping my bonus points are on it.

if not, i'm going into a branch to talk to them - got the day off work and have nothing better to do :)

      • how'd you go? got the points? if not, what did they say?

        • nup. :(

I got my statement and on the points section it says "unavailable", and it's all zeroed out.
Didnt get a chance to go into a branch today, i'll just call up in the next week or so.

          A message from Altitude

Westpac is unable to display your Altitude Points Summary this month.

Please log-in to Westpac Online Banking or altituderewards.com.au or call
1300 887 820 to redeem. Altitude terms and conditions apply.

They gave me that message eventhough i've been getting FF points from them already…..

        • third statement and no points, will try contact westpac / altitude tomorrow. Prior experience is they eternally refer each other

        • @moflare:

Spoke to Westpac altitude. It's been 60 days since meeting spend. They told me to wait another 30 days but can't verify promotion is applied on their end.

Also the rep mentioned people have varying experiences in receiving the bonus points.

Will have to just sit tight.

        • +1

          @mhs m0nk3y:

          called them just today.

automated robot asks what i'm callling about so that they can direct to to the right person - I say "credit card"

10min hold as their customer service is busy.

finally get through and explain the problem…"oh I can't help you, but i'll direct you to the Credit Card department"

Hear a transfer tone…..and then the phone goes dead….

FFS…..now thinking whether i should try calling again or just wait for my 4th statement…..

edit: so used their that online chat system and got this:

"I have just confirm and the points are meant to be added to your points balance within 12 weeks of the eligible spend criteria being met. So I would say if you think it was by April 25th you met the spend criteria, you have until July 25th to wait to receive the points."

          Guess i'll be waiting….

        • @mhs m0nk3y: 3 months what a joke

        • @Stahh:

Got my 4th statement today - the bonus points are FINALLy included on it….now to wait for them to appear in my FF account…..

  • spent 3k 60 days from application, by 2nd statement, and just got my 3rd statement and nadda.

    • Yer westpac r shit anz the points came in straight away they send out qantas pass straight away westpac you have to apply then purchase qantas flight then they still dont send it out. Ive spent over 10k and no points….

      • Last time I had the Westpac Black (2015), I didn't get the passes either. After several months, I contacted to complain, and they had them reissued. Still didn't arrive. A couple of months later I got very insistent that I hadn't received them, so they sent me the passes by Express Post.

A week or so later, the original pair, and the first reissued pair, arrived. I suggest doing the same.

[I thought Qantas stopped issuing physical passes already though?]

        • How would you entre then by swiping your cc? Anz just sent me out a couple recently..

        • @Stahh: I imagine it's under your FF account, presumably they access it that way (Virgin already does this).
