It's official but for some reason I can't find it advertised anywhere, the new plans now come with 200MB, 500MB or 1.5GB of included data, plus unlimited access to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, eBay and FourSquare, simply cannot be beaten.

Go to:
https://cyberstore.tpg.com.au/register/mobile/stand_alone_st…

And click new customer so you can see the second page. There you can see the advertised free social website stuff.

Just make sure you read all the T&C's.

A preview of that page is available here - http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac216/tigeon3/TPGTalkText…

    prices?

  • +2

very good deal, i'm surprised you get so many unlimited access sites.

    • +3

TPG does use the optus network and optus gives out unlimited accesses for postpaid to those sites anyways.

  • +1

$40 COMPULSORY STARTUP CHARGES APPLY TO ALL NEW TPG ACCOUNTS!

    • OMG! Is there a way to get out of it >.>

Does the $40 go somewhere like calls or something which I can use, or does it go into TPG's pocket?

      • +4

Is that just the original $20 for the sim card delivery and $20 for the out of cap thing?

When I signed up, TPG charged $20 for the SIM ($10 if you want to pick it up from North Ryde) and a $20 out of cap thing, so if you exceed your cap it comes out of this $20. If the $20 drops below $5, they top it back up to $20…but if you want to cancel your plan, whatever you have left is completely refundable (although it may take a few calls to get it, from experience)

        • Oh wow I never knew it was $10 to pick up from North Ryde. If I knew I would've done that haha. So that basically means, they're charging $10 for delivery…

  • Good with the data, can't seem to change my $49 cap to the talk & text but =(

    • Try log into your account first. Then go to view all mobile services, and then mobile change of plan.

It doesn't mention anything about the free 500mb and access to those sites though on that page :s

Only with the link the OP posted.

      • Do we have to change plans if we were already on the talk and text? Tried to log in to my account and change but as mentioned above it does state anything about free included data.

  • One thing to note: Talk & Text Cap Values exclude calls to 13/1300/1800/190 numbers

The 49 Cap Saver is still better imo. 13/1300/1800 numbers and data is included in the cap. It only costs 20c per mb. So with $300 cap value, you can get 500mb of data for $100 with $200 leftover for calls. Also it only costs $15 if you're a tpg adsl member.

    • The 49 Cap Saver is better if you're a TPG ADSL member and you make 13/1300/1800/190 calls, but this is a pretty sweet deal for someone who wouldn't make a 13/1300/1800/190 call and does not have TPG internet.

That being said, I don't like the idea of any calls coming straight out of your "real money". If you forget, you can get a hefty bill.

    • oh cool i didn't realise they reduced it to 20c/MB.. it used to be $2/MB.. which used to be $5/MB lol

    • -1

not happy with that. if it included 13/1300/1800 I could live without "yes time"

    • According to TPG's mobile plans page for the 49 Cap Saver (click 'view rates'):

Cap Includes: National Calls to Mobiles and Landline, SMS Messages, MMS Messages, Voice Mail

If data was once included, it's not now, or it's omitted from the page.

      • it's still included on my bill (thank god)

  • hmm..maybe i should have got one of these caps instead of my new $29 + 18 handset repayments with three. 47 - 13 (assuming $49 cap , as a tpg user ) = 34 * 24 = $800 odd, and could have gotten my phone outright with nocontract too.

  • Wow I like this. Doesn't benefit me but I can definitely see these being very popular. I've got a couple of friends I could recommend this to too!

Generally I hate contracts, but I've been on TPG's $49 Cap Saver for $9.99 (bundled with ADSL2+) for almost 1.5 years now and no complaints. The only thing I can say that could be improved is reception. Although I know it is pretty much Optus reception, I have actually heard (from a friend working at a phone store) that if Optus is using up all the radio towers for reception, then they get priority over TPG. But hey, you get what you pay for I guess?

    • I don't know if that tower thing is true or not, but I have felt that reception has been poorer, when I moved from Optus Prepaid to TPG.

      • I find it a little hard to believe that they would treat their wholesale customers this way.

Also regarding reception complaints, is your phone 900Mhz 3g compatible? That will make a big difference when you head regional. If you are an iSheep, then the iphone 3gs doesn't do 900Mhz but the iphone 4 does.

        • +1

not if you're holding it wrong

  • +4

Hm, not bad plans, but when I calculated TPG + iPhone 4 outright vs. iPhone with Optus, it seemed that contracting with Optus was financially better.

Just more of a "be wary" message, it may look awesomely cheap but do the math. :p

    • +2

only financially better if you want to stick to one telco for 2 years, there will always be better deals out there (not just money's sake but Optus might give you a bad reception) and TPG doesn't lock you up, just my 2 cents

unlimited FB is never a bad thing, i know many BB users who are stuck with BB plan just for unlimited FB, this will turn the tide once again :D

    • +1

It can be. But you can also upgrade / change plan in 1 year time when the deals get even better.

You can't do that if your locked in for two years.

      • +1

True, but since TPG runs on the Optus network, reception wouldn't be an issue since they'd be the same.
I only say this because when I look at the "Heavy" plan for $35.99 a month, it's somewhat comparable to the Optus $59 Extreme Cap.

$600 vs $550 to any network.
$400 vs unlimited between same network.
        1.5GB v 2GB
Unlimited use of FB and crap (both have this).

Over 24 months, TPG would amount to $863.76, and if you got an iP4 32GB from Apple, that'd be another $999 on top of that, hence $1862.76.

For the Optus $59 Extreme cap, it'd an extra $10/month for the 32GB, but 2 months free access. So, 22 x $59 + $240 = $1538. Keeping in mind also you do get "more" with Optus, as it betters TPG in everything except the calls to any network. Optus also gives you unlimited SMS and MMS messages and free tethering.

Not that I'm advertising here, but it's more along the lines of not falling into the trap of thinking everything non mainstream is financially better.

Also, with the argument that it would "get better" over time, it's unlikely that TPG could offer more as they're limited by what Optus lets them have.

        • +2

I appriciate your input. It allows others to compare too without doing all teh research.

I currently purchased the 32gb iphone 4 for $999 from apple and am on liveconnected $20 plan.
This includes $300 of calls/sms to anyone and 300mb worth of data.

So over 24 months I will have paid $1479. But if a better offer appears like this or in 6 months or 1 year I am free to change.

          My 2 cents.

  • Can existing customers change to this cap plan?

    • i just was on a very frustrating call to tpg call centre and they themselves had no idea about the new plans including data and free access.
Had to talk them thru to the new registration area so they knew what was on their own site (management included)

  • ahhh wtf?! am i doing it wrong. I was looking at the plans early and they included data, now they don't.

EDIT: Ignore me - i could see them before on the mobile plan page but then i couldn't. however if i go to sign up they are there..

  • Do existing customers get extra discount or value from the new cap plans? I am thinking of joining up with their ADSL.

  • Not a bad deal, I think Optus BYO plan is still slightly better value for me though. The only main downside is that I'm contracted for 12 months. But I'm on the $29 BYO plan, you get $150 calls, 200MB, free FB and one of the options is for an extra $150 Optus2anyone cap value. Also, if you buy online you get 2 months free.

So effectively, I'm getting $300 calls/text value, 200 MB internet, free FB, for $24.16/month (factoring in the 2 free months).

At this price point, comparing with TPG's plans, I'm still a fair way ahead. Say I went on the TPG $19.99 plan, and spent up to $24.20, I'd be getting $300 worth of calls, free FB, but only 21MBs of internet (at 20c/meg).

tl dr summary: If you don't mind being locked in for 12 months, Optus BYO (bought online) is probably better value for you. The exception is if you plan to really make use of the TPG to TPG mobile calls.

  • Unless I missed it I don't think anyone answered the question about the $40 connection charge?

As existing customers would both of us here be up for the $40 to switch over to these plans or is at least some of ($20 buffer credit) be put towards that making the cost $20? Or is it a free swap for existing customers? I'm a little confused, but overall these plans look good, we'll save a few bucks and have bigger bang for our buck.

  • The service has actually been quite good for me. However, it's unfortunate that they no longer offer the Unlimited "all you can eat" cap with unlimited voicemail and 2GB data for $79.99 per month. It was the only true unlimited plan with no conditions (and I still have it :P).

  • Watch out, I'm with TPG and:

Optus network is terrible for data. Very slow, broken connects.
Optus network is terrible in CBD Sydney. During peak times nobody can call you, but your phone has 4 bars. Strangely you can call out tho…
Existing ADSL/Home users cannot have their mobile on the same account. This means 2 logins. :(

    • I have an ADSL2+ account and signed up for their special $15 for the 49 cap plan deal, and can use the same login. It may be different if you go with a different deal.

    • +2

You actually can have your mobile tied to your ADSL and get it for $15.

If a. You had ADSL first, just go to "change plan" and choose your ADSL plan WITH the mobile.
If b. You had mobile first, ring them up and see what they say. They told me their system didn't support moving my mobile to my ADSL account and that I couldn't get the discount. As soon as I made a complaint their system "managed" to magically have this capability.

  • well u jsut rang up and was going to get the new plan, but it seems that they done a error

The 1.5GB plan was a stuff up and after i spoke to them they rang me back and they updated there web site.

    0.2c per KB,

dam false advertising and get my hopes up..:(

  • why cant I see those plans?? I clicked on the link and it redirected to another page which does have the plan…

  • yep no deal!! I think that was just an error. I clicked the link by OP, logged in, saw those plans, but it didnt unlimited access to facebook etc…, and the data rate is 0.2c per KB!!

    • -2

Oh great! I just ordered this and bought a iphone outright because of it! First step, cancel this order through TPG. They better not fight me on this. I've had problems with them before so I should have known better :(

  • THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!

yep TPG stuff up, called them to confirm. does not include data. in th process of cancelling my application now.

    • I can't call at my work so I've had to try to email and instant message the tpg user on Whim. No response yet to whats happening. I'm going to have a pointless iphone if there are no data with these new plans :(

      • apparently their customer-service is just herrible (horrible & terrible), but you do pay a cheaper service if you don't contact them as much.

      • Don't worry, TPG seems to have a habit of releasing plans to test the market, am sure it'll be officially available shortly.

  • Hope this plan is real& made official soon !

this is what i have been waiting for ! . the perfect plan for me

  • Wait, 0.2 cents/10 kb…….. so a 2/100th of a cent per 10 kb is it?

    • 0.2 cent is 2/10 of a cent, or $0.002

  • -1

Well, official word I received back was that there is no data in the plans. That was it. I've cancelled my order now. I was thinking about getting it and just putting up with it until the new cap comes out but Data isn't even including in the cap so you pay for all data on top. Approx 20c/mb… no thanks.

  • Yeah, no data. So, epic fail!

  • -1

so when is someone going to vote negative haha

  • this is definitely not as good as initially expected

not sure if anyone has commented but from TPG to TPG, it is only voice calls

no sms or mms or anything like that

which does suck cause ive converted so many of my friends to TPG that it seems volatile! =(

tpg, update your plans so TPG to TPG cap includes sms!
