MARCH20
Subject to the restrictions set out in these terms and conditions, the 20% promotion code may be applied to a qualifying stand-alone hotel (not a hotel booking in combination with any other product such as flight + hotel, or flight +hotel + car) booked online with cheaptickets.com between March 24, 2017 9:01AM CT and March 25, 2017 8:59AM CT, for 1 or more nights for travel between March 24, 2017, and September 30, 2017. Qualifying bookings instantly receive 20% off at check-out through the use of the promotion code. Customers are limited to two redemptions of this promotion code and up to a maximum savings of $150 per booking. After those two bookings, this promo code will not be able to be used again, even if one or more of those bookings is cancelled. Exclusions may apply and most major hotel chains are excluded. The promotion code cannot be redeemed against taxes, supplier fees, cancellation or change fees/penalties, administrative fees or other miscellaneous charges, which are the sole responsibility of the customer. Discounts are not redeemable for cash for any reason. Promotion codes are non-transferable, not for resale, and cannot be combined with other offers or used for any booking previously made. Any attempt at fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. • Great I just booked last week with 16%

    • If it was a refundable booking, then 1st make a new booking, and then cancel the old.

  • +1

At their ongoing 16% off they are very competitive. 20% is brilliant! Damn their short booking period!

EBATES CASH REBATE: Ebates will also give 1.25% cash reward rebates. As well as a sign up bonus and referrer bonus ($USD).
To join Ebates, I recommend that you click on Referral Links 'RANDOM' at:-https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ebates.com#referral

OP, how did you hear about this one? Normally I get emails from them.

    • Was an email!

  • FYI I tried to book 2 rooms, and it only took 20% off the first room, and so will need to make 2 separate bookings. (Something to watch with their 16% off codes in the future too)

  • Anyone found any deals? The prices are higher than say.. hotels.com so even with 20%, it is not that attractive

    • Yep I found some. Chiang Rai. So now I need to cancel hotels.com and rebook. Painful but every $ counts.
      Always shop around and compare.
Also, before, some people found that Orbitz is sometimes very good too if they have a 15% off promo code and 2.5% rebate through Ebates (join as above).

    • Looked at a few places in Singapore, seems to be cheaper prices offered via mobile site on some properties. Way cheaper than all of the sites.

      E.G.

      Hotel G Singapore, 3 nights,
      $385 via Expedia
$330 (via discount deal you get after booking flight with expedia)
      CT $243.67 USD / $320 AUD
      Hotels.com $385
      Agoda $352

      • I booked a Junior Spa Suite at Stamford Adelaide with free breakfast for only $206 for two nights. Blew away any price I could find anywhere else.

  • What time in AEST does this finish?

  • Where to enter discount code? Can't find promo code box in booking section…

    • +1

"We use secure transmission We protect your personal information
Enter a coupon or promotion code <—— HERE!
      Debit/Credit Card PayPal Monthly Payments"

If it is not showing, then that hotel is excluded.

  • +2

You also need to make sure that you're paying upfront. Not pay at the hotel.

  • Cheers, booked the Sama Sama. Great deal in combination with the 30% early book discount and the free breakfast inclusion!

    • I'm in Singapore during the Grand Prix and picked up a four-night suite stay in a five star hotel for only NZ$1068, all meals and min-bar inclusive. Cheapest price with the hotel direct was NZ$2100, so I'm laughing.

      • Sounds like a great deal, which hotel is that?

        • +1

This was a Skyline Room at the One Farrer Hotel & Spa - great location too, directly next to a MRT station. PM me know if you need any help finding a good price.

  • Looks like they're 16hrs behind Sydney.
So got until roughly midnight Sydney time

  • So what happens if you 'pay now' with a hotel that offers free cancellation…and if you do happen to have to cancel, do you get your full refund back on your credit card?

    • Well, that's the idea. I don't know how CheapTickets handle their refunds in practice but they are an Expedia owned company so I'm sure they'll be fine, as long as you read everything properly and make sure you understand the terms of cancellation.

    • +1

Yep. Never had a problem with refunds from them.
Note to all. Because it is in $US you will pay a foreign currency exchange/transaction fee with most credit cards. And so I always use Citibank Plus (great xrate & none of these costs)

      • Awesome. Thank you.

  • +1

Thanks OP - saved myself $60.00 (AUD) #winning

  • Damn! I just missed out on this deal…. going to USA Sept, and hoping to save some $… how often does this deal happen? Is it worthwhile subscribing their mailing list? Any other sites with good deals like this? cheers! Oldrocker

BTW. I notice the hotel rates are lower on the phone!

    • Definitely subscribe - and also to Orbitz, which often have 15% off deals.
Cheaptickets still have a 16% off coupon too, do you know about that one?
I have never seen 20% before myself. I would have thought that would be more of a discount than what they'd make back through commission to be honest….

      • 20% used to be the norm a year or two back. The occassional specials (like the current 20%) back then was 25%.

      • Thanks @dkinnoch for the info, I'm gonna subscribe, how does one get the 16% coupon? Cheers

        • +1

          SUNSHINE = 16% CheapTickets
          EXPLOREMORE = 15% Orbitz
And if you've got yourself a Mastercard, you can always get 12% off at Expedia by visiting
          www.expedia.com.au/expedia

        • +1

Orbitz can be better if you make frequent bookings because you'll get the 15% off and earn Orbucks towards future bookings, which works out a bit better than 16% off with CheapTickets I think.

        • @dkinnoch:
Thanks buddy you are a champion!

        • No worries!
Realised I gave the wrong Expedia link too.
          It's www.expedia.com.au/mastercard

        • @dkinnoch: Orbitz Orbucks expire after 12 months. Is there a minimum accumulation amount of Orbucks before you can redeem them? And do you still get Orbucks if you use a discount code. (Eg hotels.com you don't if you use a discount code)

        • +1

          @Peck:

And do you still get Orbucks if you use a discount code.

          Yes you do.

Also 2.5% cashback from EBATES so it actually works out better than CheapTickets 16% + EBATES 1.25%.

        • @dkinnoch:

And if you've got yourself a Mastercard, you can always get 12% off at Expedia

HotelClub used to always have 15% off using VISA. Seems like it's gone now tho.

        • It's an 8% discount now, you can get the same with Mastercard too.

          www.hotels.com/visa
          www.hotels.com/mastercard

Generally Hotels.com has got a bit sucky with their discounts.

        • +1

Does anyone actually pay full price for accommodation these days? I don't remember the last time I booked a hotel without using a discount code… make sure you always suss out the hotel website too, for direct bookings. And sometimes I have contacted the hotels direct (when there have been no discount codes floating around) to tell them that I could either book direct, or through a booking engine, and I would prefer to book direct, would they throw in free breakfast or something - and most of the time they're pretty perceptive to this, particularly SE Asia hotels.

        • +1

@Peck: You can use them at any time on any booking - and make sure you use the app, because it's 5% as opposed to 3% on the web browser. So when they have a 15% discount code, and you get 5% back in Orbucks, you're effectively always getting 20% back at Orbitz.

        • @dkinnoch: Interesting! But using their app you miss EBates rebates yes? Although a discount upfront is better than a rebate that might arrive in your bank in the next year or so.

        • +1

@Peck: To answer my own question, I found that you get bigger Orbucks using their app then their website :)) Exceeds the ebates in total.

        • @Peck: I think it's their way of reducing the amount of commission they need to pay to referrers.
It's a win win business model - you get discounted hotel rates on an ongoing basis, and they don't have to pay commission, and nevertheless earn commission on your next booking which cancels out the Orbucks they've given you anyway.
All apps have bonuses I think - Hotels.com give a standard 5% for using their app. Expedia give you 3x points.

  • If travelling overseas, don't be afraid of using some of the o/s travel websites. EG I have booked some very cheap hotel prices on http://www.asiatravel.com/

    • Yep, same with Ctrip too in China, have you used them? They just took over Skyscanner….

      • Never used before. I am just trying it now.
The actual website that I am trying - http://english.ctrip.com/hotels
is a bit 'clunky' especially when trying to change dates, but I will persevere.
