Probably discounted because it's going to be discontinued soon. Still a good deal though.

    • Did you know discounted plus in = discontinued?

      • It says "Clearance". They'll be moving to the A11X or A10X soon, because A9 has been out since 2015. Plus there's rumours of a 10.5" model.

        • I think he was talking about adding letters "I" and "N" into "discounted" = discontINued

  • +1

That's a great price, but a newer version of the iPad Pro is on it's way. Still, could be worth picking up.

    • Is there? I thought Apple just announced their new iPad though other day and its a budget device. Less powerful than the current pro.

      • They announced a replacement for the iPad Air 2 (which was 2 years old), but they are still to update the Pro models of the iPad's. As always, you never know when Apple will release a new product, but I would guess July

      • -1

Yep, they made it crap so people can't go what they call mid range… they have to go high range ala Pro now if they want something decent.

So it would be smart to release a new pro to make it even more enticing to upgrade.

Heaps of people have held off upgrading for a long time, pushing them towards pro is smart

        • Have you even looked at the specs for the new iPad? It's an improvement from the iPad Air 2 (which it is replacing) and is $150 cheaper.

Yes the new iPad is not better than the iPad Pro, but that's because your comparing different models.

        • The biggest problem with iPads is the price. The peak of iPad sales was back in 2011 and since then Chromebooks have been stealing iPad's market share year on year. There has been no major redesign or major feature since iPad 2. The only thing Apple can think of is faster CPU and better screens but nothing too spectacular that would convince anyone to go out and GET one (regardless of the price). iPad Pro is no different.

Try telling a (struggling) parent "for the next school year, students must bring their own iPad. Minimum specs is an iPad Air 2, 64 Gb" and then watch their expression on their face. Next, watch their expression when they are told "for the next school year, students must bring their own Chromebook".

The announcement of the March 2017 release of iPhone and iPad models are for low cost models. Roughly the same specs as the current line of iPads but cheaper. Even the iPhone SE has higher storage space but for the same price as last year. This is, I am hoping, the sign of the times. This is now the genie out of the bottle because the pain points to any buyers to all of Apple's products (iPhones, iPads, iTouch, etc.) has been reached.

I will wait and see come June for the announcement of their next line of iPads and iPhones and their prices.

        • @sanmigueelbeer: I read somewhere that Apple is sick of selling the same coke that you and the president drinks, and now wants to sell champagne too. Roughly translated: get ready for the 24k iPhone Pro, and get ready to start whinging that most people can barely afford an 'iPhone'.

        • -1

          @changa:

Its a small upgrade in processor with the rest of the hardware downgraded

A new Pro with another upgrade would make a it a must.

        • @muncan: The next iPhone will be called iPhone Air, but that won't be until after 9S.

Only after the Air line is retired will they begin with Pro branding.

Might as well buy a laptop

    • +1

      Amen!

    • -4

But a laptop does not run iOS and can't run iOS applications.

      • +13

        What a blessing

        • -5

That sounds like you haven't used iOS before.

        • -2

          @changa:

          Exactly right
completely clueless users sometimes on the internet who "bag" out a product without using it
Apple Ipad Pro is one of the best drawing surfaces I have used

        • +2

@shawncro 222: LOL.. you both making an assumption that throwaway never used iOS before. What if they did use it before and hold a belief it is inferior to the other alternative operating systems? Just like Changa is saying their opinions about not able to run iOS apps being a downside to a laptop. Can others not have a right to think that they rather not use iOS? If you can post opinions here, then others can too.

        • @bchliu: what I posted about a laptop not being able to run iOS is not an opinion. It is a fact.

A laptop (unless Iin developer modes) can't run iOS applications, whether a windows machine, or macOS machine.

I made no comment that iOS is better or worse than Android or Windows. Everyone has their own preference, and that is perfectly fine.

        • +1

@changa: So what if it cant run iOS apps? It is still an opinion matter as to whether you actually NEED iOS apps or not. You are stating the obvious, but the matter is whether or not people find it more suitable to have a laptop running another OS because that's what they need/require.

You did accuse people of not having used it before making judgement.

        • @bchliu: I don't want to get into an argument as this thread is being detailed enough already.

My comment was really aimed at stating that an laptop can't run iOS applications. I have already purchased a number of iOS apps for my iPad (Pixelmator, Snapseed etc) which can't run on anything other than an iOS machine. It's the same as if I bought the application for a Windows machine or aacOS machine. The software does not transfer.

This post is for an iPad, and I was simply stating that fact that you can't run iOS on anything else.

I agree that I did suggest that Throwaway had not used iOS. I agree that was wrong. That came from frustration with people posting comments which are not really helpful.

        • @changa: I've had the misfortune of having almost every apple product post 3GS in my residence thanks to a family member working at apple, tyvm

      • But a laptop does not run iOS and can't run iOS applications.

        And..?

With the current ad campaign of the iPad Pro appealing to people who don't want to get viruses as they only Youtube and Facebook - I imagine that their previous campaign trying to appeal to creative professionals went so badly with a product not suited to them that they had to appeal to idiots to recover the R&D costs.

    • +1

To the downvoters here's the ad in question that's all over TV screens today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xCOyfd6TSI

It's literally titled 'less to worry about' and appeals to people who are scared of viruses and believe in ghosts.

It's possibly the worst tech ad campaign ever.

      • Agreed, that advert is cringe worthy plus some.
Apple have some good ads and this is definitely not one of them.

  • +28

Why does every post about Apple have to degenrate into an Apple/Android argument? People prefer different operating systems and that's perfectly fine.

I prefer Apple products, and so don't check out Android bargains (and don't post comments in those threads), so why do people who hate Apple and claim they would never buy an Apple product read posts about Apple bargains? If you are not interested, why don't you just skip the post and move on?

    • +12

Because they secretly want to buy apple products.

      • +2

        they can't afford them
what they can't afford they "bag out"
        typical ozbargainer attitude actually

        • +3

          Thats an unfair assumption.
And there was no debate prior to this comment about android.
The statement was you can buy a laptop for that price. Which is true and a valid alternative.
I actually find too many people here playing the defensive for their purchases of whichever device they buy which is just as bad.

        • +1

It's not that they can't afford them. I would just rather spend $950 on something else (better), it's not that I don't have $950…

    • +4

Exactly the same thing with Xbox deals and Playstation fans goto the deal comment section and bash on Xbox, I never understood it myself.

    • I'm here for the Michael Jackson Popcorn. Are you?

    • +3

You literally posted this comment because of that one comment chain above

That's not an "argument", you're just having a sook because people dared to disagree with you.

iPad Pro lacking iOS isn't a complaint restricted to ozbargain either, many folks on reddit /r/apple also agree that it needs OSX to be an appropriate laptop replacement.

    • +9

You're the first one to have brought up android here?

    • You were the first person to mention android. No one mentioned it before you. Dont know why you made a drama and started this here.

    • You still have to admit that the Apple Tax is large on the Pro range.

  • -3

so with apple I can watch as much porn as I want and never worry about virus or tracking cookie?

    • +4

You might get a few stern looks on the bus.
Particularly if you're on a bus with Howard Stern.

    • I'm not sure why you'd want to worry about viruses and tracking cookies when all you cared about is porn.

      • -1

        It slows the device down.

  • +1

Can anyone actually purchase this? won't proceed showing out of stock?

    • Yes, bought 3.

      • Which colour?

  • +1

Went through the whole checkout process to get "Sorry, some of the items in your shopping cart are out of stock. Please remove highlighted items and proceed." when trying to process with Credit Card. What a waste of my time and a crap shopping cart process… Never used OfficeWorks before and probably won't again.

    • +2

I spoke with Officeworks and unfortunately they had very linited stock and currently these iPads aren't available for purchase… was not happy that they kept the sales page active..

    • try calling 1300 633 423 see if what they can do, there open until 5pm

      • I called too, they said none left in NSW and they cannot ship from interstate :(

        • Did they have any stock anywhere?

        • he didnt bother to check cause they wont deliver interstate.

        • @2enjoy: Of course he didn't..

  • +3

Good price for the iPad Pro.

I'm however leaning toward the new iPad to replace my aging iPad2. I'd suggest Apple is being rather smart in offering a 'cheaper' (ha!) model to appeal to those wanting to upgrade earlier model iPads, who also do not need all the so-called Pro features.

My iPad is used for content only, so the latest offering suits what I use it for.

And yes, the iOS vs. Android waffle is rather tiresome. Who really cares? If you like Android, good on you. The same applies to iOS - if that suits you, then that's okay as well.

    • iPad (2017) is a fantastic replacement for all iPads up to and including the iPad Air (1st Gen). iPad Air 2? Debatable.

      • It's price is cheap though. $329 USD for 32GB which is cheaper than the models it replaces, and cheaper than Air 2. It has an updated processor A9X, which is faster than the Air 2.

Which means it replaces all models before it, including the Air 2. It is not debatable.

        • It certainly supersedes the Air 2 in the line up, but not necessarily if you already have one, and prefer the thinner, lighter unit and possibly better screen.

        • @quarrymaster: Hmm.. I did not realize the new one is thicker or has a different screen.

  • +2

Good price, still too expensive as a media consumption device..

    • iDevices were never good for media consumption devices due to the format restrictions and itunes. And the non ideal 4:3 aspect ratio. There are ways to get around it, but it will never be as simple as plugging it into your PC and copying the files over irrespective of format.

Does MKV still need to be converted if using itunes?

  • SOLD OUT

  • Sold

    • still available in vic

      • Where in Victoria?

        • are you getting green add to cart button? try doncaster 3109, says 14-20days delivery time

        • @RogueWolf: all showing out of stock. The add button is there however once you finalise payment it gets cancelled.

        • @Goodfellha: oh ok, I stopped at adding payment details in cause I wasnt buying one, ill expire the deal

  • That's a killer price.

They have to be clearing them out for new models.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Got lucky and managed to get one this morning over phone. It was supposedly the last available piece in their warehouse and was confirmed they're now sold out when I tried to grab another one for my dad.

  • +1

Hey everyone just checked with apple.com.au and they'll price match with officeworks. You just need to call apple direct :O

    • +1

will add to post, good job getting that

    • +1

*note - I haven't done this personally (i don't need a new iPad :) ) but on the online apple chat they said it was possible.

      • ok cool, still worth a try as OW has no stock

    • Disclaimer:

Apple won't pricematch more than 10% due to their policy. Save your time and do not call Apple because they won't pricematch OW's price. Shame.

      • oh mannnn that sucks! the assistant I had said they would. guess not everyone at apple is informed :( sorry guys.

  • Confirmed Apple wont pricematch. Neither will HN or GG as it needs to be in stock. Well done to those who secured one, great price! And definitely not discontinued, just no longer being stocked by OW.

    • thanks for the update, have removed from post as apple wont price match
