      If you can stretch a little more than $300, I'd go the Xiaomi Mi 5s.

      Eg: https://www.android-enjoyed.com/xiaomi-mi-5s-dual-64gb-4g-lt…

      Does have some custom UI though, and dual Sim, so might be overkill for his needs.

          There are a few options as far as retailers go, my link was just an example (hence the eg:)

      Mobileciti sells Australian Stock and provide Tax Invoice with GST on it and it is eligible for TRS as well if you are travelling for overseas.

      iPhones sold by Mobileciti are Official Australian Stock and therefore covered by Australian Apple Warranty as well as Australian Consumer Law warranty.

        You can get them for $420 and under on eBay, but not confident with the sellers. This seems like Australian stock with 2 years warranty. So might be best.
