  • One way or return?

  • Cheers planning to go Mid Aug, is this generally a good time to visit from people's experience ie good weather ?

    • +3

      Beautiful weather…just go mate.

    • +1

Rainy season but I found it gets very warm.

    • +2

Hmmm… I heard June to Aug it's hot and humid but it's Japan it's amazing. Just book it! :D

I went late Aug last year and it was not bad!

      • I went in June last yr and it wasn't too bad, slightly hot, but not humid. Hovered around 25degrees if i remember correctly.

        • I think it may also depending on which region you go as well :D

    • +1

Can be very hot but it's bearable.

    • +2

It will be very hot and humid. Like Brisbane :D

    • +1

Went in 2015 around that time and yep, hot and humid. Does give you the opportunity to climb Mt Fuji though which is an amazing experience.

    • +1

Should have just passed its peak in terms of heat, but you'll still find it how. However, this is around school break and the perfect time for all the festivals and what-not

    • +1

Very hot and humid, but see if you can get along to any summer festivals. They're held in most cities and towns but you should look up the big ones, because they're spectacular. Went in August a few years ago specifically to go to matsuris and it was an excellent trip - Aomori Nebuta, Akita Kantou and Tokushima Awa Odori were standouts!

  • I was there last year at the start of september. Was a bit rainy but still decent weather!

I'm going Syd->Singapore->Tokyo(Nar) Toyko(Han)->Syd for $902 in August!!! 3 day stopover in Singapore…. Try booking with multi-city! Heaps mad! See you all there! Thanks OP!

    • +2

If people are interested….around the same price if you do a multi-city via Cathay Pacific
Mel -> Hong Kong -> Tokyo -> Osaka -> Hong Kong -> Mel

    • Amazing!! Have a fantastic time!! :D

    • Who's SIN-NRT with? JAL?

  • +1

What fare class are these booked in? Are the upgradable?

    • +5

I am guessing highly unlikely to be First class or Business class for this price :p

    • +5

Unsurprisingly they book into "sale" fare, which is considered discount economy.

As you know Qantas frustratingly do not tell you the fare class before or during booking, yet use it to determine earn rate.

    • +3

They are O-bucket fares and cannot be upgraded. I just purchased and tried.

i go to japan about 4 times a year due to work, late march to early apirl is the best followed by late october to mid november. I am mainly talking about Osaka / Tokyo weather.

    • +1

unless you're going for snow :)

    • +1

Man what do you do for work, I wanna go to Japan 4 times a year as well :(

      • +2

        geisha pimp

      • Being an english teacher is the easiest way.

    • 6 - 8 times here (A spend all of Jan in Takayama, yay remote work!) plus I like to go for long weekend sojourns and October just kills it IMO. My favourite time to travel. You get the beautiful weather and fewer tourists.

  • Eyeing for tickets for mid-December.
~$1800 for Melbourne/Tokyo Return quite the shocker when its twice as much compared to later months :)

  • lol $1700 over Xmas during the 'sale'.

I paid $1200 return from CBR via SIN in a non-sale.

  • Does anyone know that the voucher will be issued instantly or within 24h? I plan to buy the voucher to book the flight to avoid the credit card fee.

    • U just need 50 voucher to get rid of the cc fee

  • +1

Why is Perth omitted when we are the closest?

    • I know feels wrong to pay more when flying less :(

    • Sydney is actually closer, by a mere 56 miles for Haneda :)
Plus they have to route you through SYD/MEL/BNE so that's quite a detour, unlike ADL/CBR which is just a short hop away.

  • +1

Fly Cathay, superior service without QF snooty grumpy staff

    • I flew JAL and ANA each once for this route and they were both fantastic. The service were impeccable.

    • Agreed… Qantas long haul economy flight attendants are the worst. The domestic ones tend to be much friendlier for some reason

    shit deal imho

    • +2

      Yeah righto

wondering what this offer would have over jetstar flights for ~$550 return around the same time. obviously qantas is direct w/ meals and baggage, but not sure thats worth $400?

    • +1

Without having all the details to do a step by step comparison..

      • Status credits and points
      • Meals
      • Baggage
      • Full service airline vs economy airline (with the service expectations that go with that)
      • Schedule/timing perhaps ?
      • Brand loyalty ?
      • Ability to be upgraded possibly (depending your status) - even a slim chance is more than zero
      • Destination choices (e.g. Jetstar and Qantas may fly into different airports)
      • Direct flights usually command a premium on any medium or long haul (> 5h)

It may not be worth $400 but I guess that's subjective. For example, having seen all the stories about Air Asia and Tiger I would personally avoid them at all costs and pay more to QAN and VA. That's not to say that thousands of other people don't have a perfectly happy experience with them..

    • $750 - $550 is not a difference of $400? Plus meals and baggage cost money on Jetstar so the $200 difference probably becomes ~$140. Still a better experience on a Qantas flight though.

  • Is QF still running the old 747 (blue seats with those tiny seatback monitors) on these routes or the retrofitted ones with the A380 seats.
