Target AM/FM Pocket Radio $2 Was $10 @ Target Albury NSW

640

Scanned for $2 at price check, not sure if it's nationwide. Looks like they had 20 on the shelf at time of posting. Good early Xmas filler for grandparents lol.

Wow great price mate. Radios always come in handy.

      Radios always come in handy.

      Only if they work properly.

A lot of open boxes suggests a lot of returns…

      • +4

Yea the number of these kind of radios I've returned because the AM was limited to less then half the actual stations.

Why do I want AM? The cricket/footy broadcasts. If only they'd bring out DAB radios with AM for under $50. Or sports allow internet radio to broadcast all matches.

Ive still got my trusty am/fm radio I bought from Walmart ~20yrs ago.

        • If youre after ABC grandstand then you can listen to that on DAB. I do hear you though would be nice if DABs had AM as well.

The second hand value of Sony DABs hovers around $50. I got one from cash converters. Nice sound, I got it to listen to BBC world service on SBS 4 and its been good for that.

      • Really, I would have thought a lot of open boxes this case suggests a lot of nosey people who don't trust the picture on the front of the box of a $6 radio.

      • Not many things that would break on these mainly the switches will wear out. The reception will be medicore on most cheap radios. If you want good reception look for one with short wave radio.

For $2 you can part the radio out and still be happy even a double AA battery holder by itself is around $1.

    Target AM/FM Pocket Radio $2

    DAB+ ?

    • Ha, you wish, even at the original price. Don't think they even have DAB+ reception in Albury, but then maybe Target stock department is clueless.

      • Target stock department is clueless

They had some good prices on analogue mobile phones last month…

        • +2

          lol you keep getting owned.

      • No DAB in Albury!

  • Would have loved this a few months back. The missus was after a portable radio since all the phone ones need internet and we ended up just getting an old ass feature phone for 15 or so to do the job.

    • +1

The FM radios on smartphones don't require Internet but do need the use of earphones because the lead is the antenna.

      • +1

The FM radios on smartphones don't require Internet

        on iPhones they do…

        • +3

Lucky me, I avoided that, hahaha.

        • What!? That's just stupid.

      • Cheapo ones still have it, but pretty well all half way decent phones don't have FM radios any more, I read an explanation somewhere a while back as to why. Anyway, using the internet to get the radio might not be a problem to some, but we're data free prepaid people as hotspots are everywhere we go.

        • +2

Oh well, I have an indecent phone then. :)

if it is storewide, i will buy couples and donate them to homeless people :)

    • +8

      buy couples

      For stereo?

    • +1

      Good intentions, but…
Just what homeless people need - talkback radio they can talk back at. Plus something else to spend their meagre funds on - replacing batteries.
But some might enjoy a radio. I find a chat works better.

      • Chuck in some spare eneloops you aren't using and an old charger and as long as they can find a powerpoint handy they have themselves some entertainment!

  • +2

I feel this is a step backwards from the calculator watch. It will certainly make you less popular with the ladies than the calculator watch, this is 100% certain.

  • +2

    Works great with Eneloop batteries.

  • Are they disaster zone approved though?

  • +2

Oh hello, 1980s called. They want there radio back…

  • +4

At first i thought not bad for $2 you get a backlit digital frequency display, and then I looked closer and realised they're price tags…

    • +1

Yeah, no takers at 6.00 MHz.

      • Yeah I guess it was overly optimistic of me to also expect a clock function too…

  • You sure they still broadcast analogue?

  • +5

Good for horse racing and talk back.

    • +2

      And sport

  • whats a Radio?

  • +1

Yep perfect for the footy…its amazing how you can have the latest and greatest smartphone and it never seems to have a standalone functional fm radio..annoys the crap outta me when i wanna listen to the call.

    Thanks. Bought 50.

    • Target thanks you for their rubbish removal service.

  • Great for finding electrical wires in the wall or under the ground. Tune to static on low AM setting, scan radio across area where you think hidden wire is, static increases significantly when over wire.

    • Also works with lightning strikes.

      • Prefer key and kite.

        • Lol old school aye. Tune to AM and you will be able to hear lighting strikes and the direction they are coming from.

  • Portable radios are very useful for us fisherfolks :-) couple of batteries and you've got a full day of sport and news going -

    However!

The slim one's are best avoided in my opinion, "aaa" batteries, very weak antenna and poor speakers - go the 'aa' ones with slightly better speaker and antenna setups.

  • Will these work if my state has a blackout?

  • Had anyone managed to find the same price in other target stores? My local is still at $10

  • I suggest checking to make sure they work before buying. I bought one on the way to the cricket late last year, got 10 mins down the road and AM wasn't working at all.

Good for old men at the greyhound track. In the 1970s.

Or for testing remote controls. Tune to static, turn volume up, put remote control close and press each button in turn and you'll hear what I mean. (Tells you if your remote batteries are dead, or the remote itself has worn out buttons.)

    • Or can video the IR leds to see if transmitting. Had used radios to test remotes until I learnt to use video - your smart phone is almost always closer than a radio.

      • Ah of course, I'll remember that one. But… If you buy this radio, you might not own a smartphone. ;-)

        • Woolies had free Vodafone Smart phones in deal last year😉 Got a few. They‘d work fine for that job.

Besides only the camera needs to work & phone be charged, so dumpster diving in recycling bins at phone shops might get a free one.

Somehow I think most OzBargainers might have access to a smart phone or digital camera to check their remotes😀

Enjoy the remote control concerto on the Target radio 📻
          Ill save my $2 💰

@Infidel: Yeah, I was joking. As in, if you listen to am radio, you're probably 70+, don't use a smartphone, and don't realise why you don't get bills anymore for your Nokia 5110 (but still charge it in case you get a call, lol).
