$50 shipping to WA. Not bad actually for this size tv delivered at doorsteps.

    • Reasonable for WA, as NSW is $60 shipping Sydney or Regional.

  • Not very clear about warranty or if it's brand new/refurbished. But According to warranty terms online, this appears to be a refurbished tv as it has 18 months confidence warranty even though listing doesn't mention anything

    SONIQ Confidence 18 Months Warranty

This warranty applies to refurbished items bought from the SONIQ online shop and SONIQ ebay shop. Refurbished items mean there may be physical damages such as scratch and dent; these cosmetic defects do not affect the product’s functionality. Subject to the terms and conditions below, SONIQ warrants that the Product will be replaced or repaired, if defects have occurred in the Product during the SONIQ Confidence Warranty period of 18 months. 50Hz refresh rate on a TV this size is going to look really bad, great price though

    • +2

I recommend never buying a TV unless you see it first hand. I bought a TV online once. Never again.

      • +3

i bought my first lcd tv online from bing lee about 6 years ago shipped to brisbane. still going strong. can't say i fully agree with this recommendation based on my experience.

        • Good screen and everything? I was talking about looking at the screen to see if it was good enough for a buyer, and not just based on specs online.

I've taken a look at the specs between different budget TVs around the same price online, but then going to store and looking at them side-by-side, and then choosing the one that looked better.

I'm sure buying them online isn't a problem, as long as you take a look at them in store first, so you can really decide.

        • +1

@flaminglemon: as i said, i don't fully agree with what you said. for example, if there was a deal online today, say a soniq 75 UHD smart tv for $500 with free shipping, with only a few units available, are you going to wait and go look outside before you buy? if you're not picky and can accept "you get what you pay for" there's no reason why you can't buy online without looking.

        • +1

@chillwok: And as I said, "looking at the screen to see if it was good enough for a buyer". It's up to the buyer's discretion. If you're in the market for a cheap TV and don't care for taking a look at the screen first, by all means, get it. If you're a picky buyer, which some people are (myself definitely included), I recommend looking before buying.

With the 75" UHD smart TV analogy, I personally would not jump on a deal like that. Only because I'm a picky buyer. You'll be getting what you pay for. For a deal as good as that, there would be a reason why they'd be going so cheap. They would be selling it at cost or a little less, so it makes you wonder how they'd be cutting corners for 75" TV.

Even if, say, it was a Sony or LG for that cheap, I'd be looking at reviews before getting one without seeing one in person.

@flaminglemon: Burns: We don't have to be adversaries, Homer.
We both want a fair union contract.
Homer: [thinking] Why is Mr. Burns being so nice to me?
Burns: And if you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.
Homer: [thinking] Wait a minute. Is he coming onto me?
Burns: I mean, if I should slip something into your pocket, what's the
          harm?
Homer: [thinking] My God! He coming onto me!
Burns: After all, negotiations make strange bedfellows.
          [chuckle] [wink]
          Homer: [thinking] Aaaaaagh!
          [aloud]
Sorry, Mr. Burns, but I don't go in for these backdoor
shenanigans. Sure, I'm flattered, maybe even a little curious,
          but the answer is no!

        • @flaminglemon: keep in mind that most TV's in department stores are not calibrated correctly. Usually I use rtings.com for ratings and calibration settings and go by which ones look better under their microscope.

One of my friends worked in department stores that sell TV's and usually they tweak the settings on the TVs that make them the highest GP to make them look more vivid and attractive to buyers.

        • @DangerNoodle: Yup. I'm on to those guys. That's why I ask for the remote when I'm looking at the cheaper models. They give me this look as they go and get it. If they don't give it to me, I use my phone to change the settings. :P

        • @flaminglemon: that's not the strangest request I've heard made.

About 7 years ago I was looking to upgrade to a Panasonic ips panel 37inch TV for my pc. To determine how bad the input lag might be, I brought in my $3000 water-cooled pc and plugged it all in. Loaded up call of duty at 1080p and gamed for about 20 minutes before walking out with the TV.

        • @DangerNoodle: That's quite a few levels up from what I do. But hey, you need something specific, and they want to make a sale.

I've sold off my old TVs. Me playing stuff on Netflix in HD wasn't enough. They plug their laptops in and run a few games. I don't mind. I want to make a sale.

    • +4

I actually personally hate the high refresh rates of new TVs, everything looks too 'realistic' if you get what I mean. I miss the old days of plasma TVs, they were the bomb

      • Same. The only reason they're dead is because of the popularity of LED TVs. It was pushed as the next big thing, and the word "plasma" was associated with old and clunky. Wish they still had them.

        • +2

They also used a boat load of power.

        • @macrocephalic: Fair point. You served us well, Plasma. Long live LEDs… until something else comes along.

        • +1

          @macrocephalic:

At the end of their run they weren't actually that much different to LCD's at the time, I'm not sure if LCDs have gotten more efficient since then, but it wasn't very much, something like 100 watts for a 50" IIRC.

        • @flaminglemon:
I saw some manufacturers are advertising laser TVs…

        • @SickDmith: Pew pew. I'll have to look into that. Sounds pricey. For now, I guess.

      • +2

"everything looks too 'realistic' if you get what I mean. "

I do and I hate it too. It's called 'the soap opera effect'.

      • +1

I'm still rapt with my 65" Panasonic Plasma VT60.. That is still the bomb! :)

      • +2

You can turn off the ulta realistic feature on all TVs. I hate it too, and turn it off always - but having the native refresh of the tv as 100/120 is clearer than 50/60, regardless of input. That's just a technical fact.

        • +3

Yep. The "soap opera effect" has absolutely nothing to do with the refresh rate of the screen.

Learn to look through your picture settings and turn off "smooth/motion flow control" or whatever your particular TV labels it.

And stop confusing everyone with mis-information.

Edit: not directed at you Brad, but the others who think high refresh rates lends itself to the smooth effect.

        • There is a lot of false advertising surrounding TV's.

Most TV's that claim 120hz/240hz don't actually run at 120hz/240,. Most live video streams run at 30fps so they run interpolation to double it to 60fps. But since they were running at 30fps at 60hz,they just decide to bump up their claims to 120hz just to use a bigger number to appeal to customers in a way that customers would understand smoother/faster framerates. Easiest way is to plug in a PC and see if the refresh rate option pops up. Computer LCD monitors have only just recently started cracking through 120hz and this is on a small screen, all the TVs claiming 240hz in the last decade have just been BS interpolation effects.

Sort of like how LED TV's are false advertising. They are just LCD TVs with LED back lighting. The only true LED TV's are the LG OLED TV's and all the companies that are using the LG OLED panels. Yet LED TV's were marketed as the "next big thing" and "new technology for a more vibrant display with a smaller footprint"

      • Still using my 13 year old Samsung Plasma. It's built like a tank and it's our main TV.

      • You do realise plasma has native refresh rate 200Hz one of the reasons they are so good to watch sport on compared to LED

      • Totally agree, I00Hz on TV looks so uncomfortable to me. 60Hz should be the best refresh rates IMO.

Am sure the deal is legit, however the picture of the S65UV16A-AU on the Soniq site looks a lot more like the S55V16A-AU that JB has (coloured lower bezel and black stand):

    https://www.soniq.com/au/images/stories/virtuemart/product/S…

  • What is 50Hz refresh rate mean for this 65' TV? Would it be lagging when wide spanning objects that are moving?
Why is it only FullHD Upscaling? Isn't it supposed to show 4k UHD videos?

    • Upscaling only applies to low res sources.

      • 1080p is low res now?

    • +1

Usually I'd say check the ports. If it doesn't have hdcp2.2 on any ports, then technically it only supports 1080p up scaling and not true 4k.

50hz/60hz is normal. Input lag is separate from refresh rate and response time. Ie. My OLED TV runs at 60hz, panel has a response time of less than 1ms but input lag is 30ms.

  • Is it safe to assume that it's a refurb? Anyone who owns this have any thoughts on it?

    • +1

Can't be a refurb as it's listed in 📺 and refurb not mentioned anywhere. More likely a typo in the price.

  • would this tv be fine to use with ps4 pro? also would it be easily wall mountable yourself?

    • +2

In my experience Soniq TVs are not good for gaming. I have 1080p LCD which lags significantly to the point that it is unplayable and I feel pueky because of the slow moving image

      • Yes input lag on budget TV brands like Soniq is generally quite bad.

  • Bought one… Thanks OP!

  • +1

How does this compare to the Hisense 65"

  • +1

Great price but still rocking with my 50" Samsung plasma from 2007!

    • +1

That makes 2 of us! Was my main TV up until a year ago. Pribably the best TV I've ever owned.

      • Mine has developed a tiny vertical red line top to bottom but hardly noticeable unsure why but it is old ! :)

  • Would this have a 3.5mm headphone jack? I use headphones with my tv (can't hear properly otherwise).

    • If it doesn't it should have RCA audio out. Failing that it should have optical and you can use an optical to analog converter. You can find them on eBay for about $25.

  • There's some great comments on their How to Setup Smart TV video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ePz3-Mw8Xs

Sounds like it comes with old apps and support is terrible. In the specifications of this TV is says it ships with Android 4.4.4 which is …. dated.

    • If it was me I would be using a Google chrome cast or a PS4 and avoid using the smart tv features

      • True that! I've been meaning to buy a Chromecast and check it out.

      • -5

Then why pay the premium for a smart TV?

        • +5

          How is paying $500 for a 65" 4K screen a 'premium', dude?

        • +2

This isn't premium? :P and Chromecast are cheap as! Anyone worried about lack of HDMI ports on this tv get a HDMI hub <$12 delivered

  • Does this run vanilla Android? Do Plex, Netflix, etc will work without problem?

    Thanks

    • Even if does, 4.4.4 isn't what you'd want to have running on it, especially if it seems like they're not going to be providing updates in the future.

  • Anyone able to confirm if they have ARC and/or CEC??

    • +1

Unfortunately, None of the Soniq TVs support ARC or CEC !!!

  • Thanks OP just snagged one, will report back if its not the model they list

  • Unfortunately, None of the Soniq TVs support ARC or CEC

  • Thanks OP, ordered one. Vowed never to buy another no brand tv, but this price is just too good.

  • Thanks bought 1. I also got complimentary rock 7 speaker.

    Hope they honour the price.

  • Thanks OP, ordered, really hard not to at that price plus got a Rock 7 speaker as Easter Hunt bonus

    • How did you get Rock 7 speaker ? I added tv in cart but speaker doesn't show up. Thanks

      • It was on my invoice after ordering. It's part of there Easter hunt promo.

        • +2

damn, i got a shitty HDMI cable. And i wanted one of those - Well done!

    • Also just got my email stating the order is cancelled and refunded

  • it says item can have dents or scratches. Whats your thoughts on this ? its really tempting

  • Got 1, had trouble paying with credit card, no option to select pament method and goes straight to paypal on phone, buckled and used paypal, now to start clearing out old tv cabinet and hunt down new ent unit

  • Guys if there is a need to return or claim warranty what is the process? I am assuming JBHifi would have nothing to do with this.

    • JB HiFi warranty info

      This bit is important -

"Many manufacturers have dedicated support centres designed specifically to deal with issues in relation to their products and may even provide in home support and advanced trouble shooting. In many circumstances the manufacturer may therefore be able to provide a quicker assessment of, and remedy for, any issue with your product, even if the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. You may therefore prefer to contact the manufacturer rather than JB Hi-Fi, ALTHOUGH YOU ARE NOT OBLIGED TO DO THIS and, if at any time you are not satisfied with the manufacturer’s remedy in relation to your legal rights, you can contact the store manager of your nearest JB Hi-Fi store for assistance. If have purchased goods from our website you can also contact us via our contact page."

Many stores tell you that you have to deal with the manufacturer, but under Australian Consumer Law, you only have to deal with the store (unless YOU choose to do deal with the manufacturer).

      edit -
Just realised this is NOT a JB hifi sale, but the principal is still the same for all stores.

  • argh, its gone up to full price :(

    • $1298?

      • Yes :(

  • It says $1298 when click on link…

  • Back to $1298, game over.

  • Price error - it's $1298 NOW!

  • Shows $1298. Price error?

  • Why would you pay $1298 for this when they are selling a 100hz 65inch for $998??????

  • Just to clarify, I think the price jumped back up to $1298

  • Easter hunt is over ?? lol

  • I hope they don't cancel our orders

  • +1

    Just saved $499

    • Good work. Now, what else can we get for $499 on OB?

  • Price error it seems.

  • Expecting a gift voucher. At least $20 😁

    • Do you mean that Easter Egg Hunt voucher?.

      • -1

No.once they cancel my order I'm expecting a gift voucher as a courtesy

        • +3

Why do people who order blatant pricing errors then think that they are entitled to a gift voucher in return?. You're not entitled to any thing.
