UPDATE: Credit to Schumi5. Use LENOVO15 instead of DEALS to bring price down further to $1699.90

Have been waiting for the new X1 Carbon to be discounted. Starting at $1,799 for the i5-7200U machine. You can also get their USB-C dock for $1 - looks like a very good dock with plenty of ports. Upgrading to Win10 Pro is only $100 (cheaper than Microsoft $150).

  • Your link is for the T470s?

    • EDIT: oops. looks like O O helped me fix it.

      • Hey why do you like the carbon… I don't know much about hardware etc. I am not a gamer buy I do program a bit. Wondering this or the 570p in the other thread.

  • Just wondering why anyone would pay $1800 for this

    • +2

It is one of the best laptops on the market and cheaper than Apple options.

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebookcheck-s-Top-10-Ultrabo…

Obviously it's not a gaming laptop if that is your definition of a good laptop.

If your definition is an awesome footprint, awesome keyboard, amazing lightweight, etc etc, then it is a great option.

I think the main selling point is portability. However, I would expect a dedicated gpu if I'm paying 1800 for a laptop

      • +5

if i am paying 1800 for an ultrabook, i make sure it doesn't have a dedicated gpu. it drains battery faster and makes the laptop hotter.

        • dedicated GPU doesn't run constantly..

        • +3

@Truthbe: i prefer it is not there at all

    • +1

The main selling point is the lightweight yet durable build. but i still don't think its worth more than about 1.2k for the i5/8gb/fhd model..

    • it is light. xps 13 only has 13inch while this one has 14inch while x1 carbon is lighter.
you can configure this one with WiGig and LTE while xps 13 cannot.
one of the best keyboards on a laptop
      durability
      battery life.
      thin

Use ecoupon LENOVO15 instead of ecoupon DEALS to bring price down to $1699.90

Also u can get the full spec version which has i7, 512mb ssd etc and use ecoupon LENOVO20 which brings that one down to $2079.00 from $2599

    Fyi
    LENOVO15 takes 15% off $1500 or more
    LENOVO20 takes 20% off $2500 or more

Some pretty good deals out there.

    • Thanks Schumi5. Updated price and coupon code.

You're paying a massive premium for portability imo. Especially when there are deals like this https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-…
I'm all for ultra books but in the price range I can't ignore these specs

    • +1

Depends what you use the laptop for i guess. I just can't see myself carrying this metabox to a business meeting.

You're paying a massive premium for portability imo.

And reliability, usability (best keyboard on any notebook) and so forth. I've had a Gen 1, currently use a Gen 3 and will upgrade next year to the Gen 6. These are the best notebook I've ever used.

    • +1

I'm happy to pay the massive premium for the portability … I would happily pay more for even more portability.

  • Just about to order and notice "Ships in more than 4 weeks"

  • I was holding out for the X1 Yoga, but the with the coupon code and $1 USB-C dock - there was no way I was able to say no.

    Intel Core i7-7600U Processor
    Memory : 16GB LPDDR3 1866
Hard Drive : 512 GB Solid State Drive
    Wireless : Intel Tri-Band Wireless AC(2x2) 18265, WiGig, Bluetooth Version 4.1, vPro
WWAN Selection : Integrated Mobile Broadband 4G LTE-A (Sierra Wireless EM7430), with WWAN antenna and micro-SIM slot

    Also got the dock + X1 Sleeve = $2,467.72

Chucked it on salary sacrifice too so all up will be paying ~$1340 for the above.

    • Hey how is this going for you. I want to buy a laptop, I prefer a bit bigger screen size but this seems like a good option…

      • +1

        Amazing.

It's incredibly light and thin, but comes with every port you need. Very quick and battery life is over hours when just browsing the net.
It's got that Thinkpad durability and feels like a tank and the keyboard is top-notch as always.
