Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Pre-Order Sale | S8 $1050, S8+ $1200 (no VR) | S8 $1138, S8+ $1288 (with VR) | @ Mobileciti

1450
S8-NO-VRS8-YES-VR

Mobileciti is able to offer the option of purchasing the S8 or S8+ without the Gear VR at a reduced price, as they are not officially participating in the VR promotion via Samsung. This will obviously be of benefit to those that don't need/want the VR and prefer to just have the handset at the cheapest possible price anywhere in Australia for local stock.

However, Mobileciti has also purchased some units of the VR at their own cost, so you can add the VR and still get the handset cheaper than anywhere else in Australia. Simply apply coupon S8-NO-VR for a phone without the VR or S8-YES-VR for a phone with the VR for any of the 6 handsets in the main link.

All handsets are Australian stock, unlocked, and come with local 2 year warranty. The estimated arrival date is April 21, so orders will be dispatched the same or next business day after arrival. You can also collect from the Parramatta store if you wish, and will be notified when the order is ready for pickup. GST invoice is included & all are TRS eligible. Offer ends midnight Wednesday. Enjoy :)

      • -2

People spend money on what they like. But fandriods always seem to be concerned with Apple users expenditure, which is a good thing I guess? thanks :3

Is it worth noting or checking if people DO want the VR package (S8-YES-VR) it will unlikely contain the bonus VR content that is associated with the promotion?

    • +1

Yes, does it come with the $50 Oculus store credit. Is that what you mean?

  • +1

Dang, already paid for the S8+ pre order at JB for $1242 in giftcards… I could do without the VR but too late now.

    (Relatively) Good price though.

  • +2

Not bad. S8-NO-VR gives you a price of $1200 for the S8+.

    Nice one MobileCiti.

  • -2

It's coming in 3 days, this is rather late for a preorder offer.
    Would've had my business otherwise.

  • +4

Still way to much to be considered a bargain.

    • +6

Technically it's a bargain since it's not full price. However I do agree that phones cost way too much these days.

  • When does this offer end?

    • Offer ends midnight Wednesday.

  • Awesome thanks TA, Samsung Store order cancelled and ordered through Mobileciti, no need for the VR so great price!

  • Thanks TA and Mobileciti! Curious to know if OfficeWorks will price beat this! :P

    • At least at my local OW store, they wont price beat if a code needs to be used.

Out of curiosity, who bought the S8 instead of S8 Plus because of the size? I am finding difficult to decide on whether having a large device on an average paints pocket. Mobiles phones are getting larger but at least the pockets in my paints are not increasing at the same rate. Btw I have a LG G4.

    • +2

I was concerned about the size as well but went ahead with the plus… looking at the dimensions, it seems quite similar to an iphone 7 plus so it shouldn't be an issue since I got big hands.

    • +2

Many reviewers report that S8 is too small. S8+ is smaller than iPhone 7+ which is not too big. So, I'm not afraid of buying Plus version.

    • +2

This is the size comparison, S8 is equal size with LG G4.

      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6901&idPhone2=…

I pre-order the S8+ as I like big phones, S8+ is roughly as tall as Iphone 7 Plus.

    • +3

I have the s7 edge and went with the s8 myself. I like you spent a long time deciding, I have larger hands but can just use the s7 edge comfortably with a case.

I figured once adding a case, a decent one not just silicone tpu that it might become a bit to big to use the s8+ one handed easily.

The s8 gives me a bigger screen than the s7 edge as it is, only question was smaller battery but I rarely need to charge in a normal day.

      Good luck!

    • +3

You can compare phone sizes of just about any phone here:

  • Am I the only one who paid $1350 for Plus yesterday? )

VR option is only +$88. I would imagine what margin Samsung has by selling VR set (which in fact costs them max $20-30) for $199.

Moreover, a $1200 phone ($1100 if you convert US price) they sell for $1350. This Samsung pre-order deal is nothing but forcing people to buy VR set while they think they get it for free. Won't be surprised if the price will be dropped to around $1100 for Plus after 27th April.

    • +2

If you convert from US price, you need to add the GST, so effectively the price converted should be $1210. On top of that, you need to add some of the so called aussie tax and you're looking at about $1300. I'd say the pricing isn't too bad considering although I wish it was more a direct conversion without the aussie tax.

      • Doesn't US price include GST as well?

        • +3

Don't think it does - no.

        • +1

@Eternalxx: Yeah, from my undersatnding, US prices does not show taxes unless stated otherwise.

    • +1

Well no one 'forced' you to purchase anything. History shows that prices for phones almost always get discounted as soon as they're released. You just have to sacrifice being an early adopter and waiting a bit. In this case Mobilciti will receive their stock the same time as everyone else that preordered. So you'll have to wait for additional processing/shipping time.

  • +8

    I refuse to pay $1k + for a phone !!

  • +1

Will this say $1199 in the invoice - $149 = $1050. Or will it just say $1050 with no mention of the original RRP of $1199?

Asking this for Coles Price Protection

    • Lol

    • +1

Invoice shows original price of $1198 against the phone then further down it shows the discount as a detailed line item and then a total of $1050.

      • +1

Is this via Paypal or MobileCiti default generated invoice?

Does it show a promotion with description "discount due to not bundling GearVR" or something like that

        • +1

Mobileciti invoice, no mention of gear VR on invoice, just has discount and then the figure.

        • +1

          @Maveot:

Sweet thanks. Looks like this might work for Coles Price Protection then. If its not too hard, can I hope for you to send me the invoice so I can see how it looks like before placing the order? Feel free to blank out any personal details that can identify you of course :)

        • Does Coles still cover price protection if it's paid using Paypal?

    • I also want to use Coles price protection for this. Is there something I need to watch out for here?
Does price protection work with special promo codes or does it have to be a listed price reduced for it to work?

      • They will likely ask for ticketed price therefore promo codes may not qualify.

        • Thanks for that. If I buy from Mobileciti, the listed price on the invoice is $1198, then discounted to $1050, does that mean I can use the benefit if the price drops below $1198 to let's say $1100, and they give a partial benefit since I would have paid (1050/1198)% with the card?

  • For warranty will you have to go through mobileciti or will you be able to work direct with Samsung?

    • Either is fine

    • Either,
It has a Samsung Australia warranty

    • Normally you should go to the retailer and they will deal with the manufacturer. But I have seen a comment earlier where one user was asked to go to manf. directly. But stick to go via retailer even they ask you to do so.

  • What are the odds of me receiving the phone before the 28th as I leave Oz on the 29th? Bit hesitant to order because of this..

    • From their website

      "Our transit guidelines are:

      ACT: 1-2 Business Days
      NSW: 1-2 Business Days
      VIC: 1-2 Business Days"

You'd estimate dispatch on the 21st/22nd.

  • Guys might be worth waiting to hear early experiences. Korean media reporting that screen displaying excessive red background colour.

    • IMO, thats most AMOLED screens. You can get a screen adjustment app and adjust the tone to your liking. I do it on my spare Note 3

      • I think Samsung devices have one built in as well. You have to go into Colour Balance mode by dialing *#15987# (might not work in Australian model) apparently. I don't see that as a solution though, it cannot account for differences in all screens and I don't believe customers should concern themselves with that kind of things with flagships.

Anyways, yeah, the red tint is definitely being talked a lot in Korea right now at least. I am guessing it's due to sales volume (S8 and S8+'s pre-order number is 5 times S7 and S7 Edge had) and because it's just been released.

        • Hmm, did not know that. Although, you can say similar things for all screens. I find my Moto X screen to be tinted yellow, as with some other user reports on reddit. Does not mean the phone is bad, just that everyone has different taste in screens. I'm more partial to realistic colours than overly saturated colours but S8+ in the end seems like a decent upgrade for my moto x which is lagging and overheating horribly.

        • @ProjectZero: I see it as lack or reduced of quality control in screen. Some people got phones that didn't have as much red tint as others. People pay for the same phone, someone gets phone with more red tint than others, Some people don't care, but some people care. That's the issue.

Be fair, a lot of Koreans are bloody particular with their phones I found. Some people are very picky with the build quality and I found that to be the norm for some reason. Though that doesn't excuse the whole debacle with varied red tint.

        • @Oversimplified: True, I can say for sure I'll be using a colour balance app to make the screen reflect colours to my liking.

        • People have differing opinions, I find it to have a slight red tint and the colours are too saturated. Just my opinion though. Does not say anything about AMOLED screens.

      • What screen adjustment app do you use? I got one from the app store and it just adds an overlay to the screen which boosts a particular color. The problem with this method is that when you have a pure black screen, it will still add the overlay to it giving a slightly red (or whatever color) screen.

As in it does: (COLOR) + (ADJUST VALUE) when it should do (COLOR) * (SCALE FACTOR) for each color

I have a Moto Z Play which has Android 7.0, which should theoretically have the inbuilt color adjustment, but it's not there for some reason. Hopefully in the latest 7.1 update they add it in. Like this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/android-n-…

The VR that comes with this deal, is it Gear VR with Controller? Or just the Gear VR? Also, if purchasing the phone with the VR add on are we getting the $50 Oculus store credit as well?

    • +3

I'd love to know the answer to both of these questions - does it come with controller and $50 Oculus store credit?

    • As I understand, the new GearVR comes only with a controller. But it is possible to buy a controller separately for old GearVRs. BTW, the price at bestbuy of the controller itself is $40USD.

I doubt it will have $50 Oculus store credit since "they are not officially participating in the VR promotion via Samsung" and "Mobileciti has also purchased some units of the VR at their own cost".

If this is true the deal is not much better than Sansung deal for those who needs VR.

    • That will be interesting to know and I think it will be old stock without the controller. It might be old gear which mobileciti bought had and no mention in OP as well. So Rep might be able to answer this.

    • +3

      Hi sekid3n

If you choose the VR bundle you will received Gear VR with Controller plus Oculus content bonus

  • I tried to cancel samsung official order and get this deal, samsung hotline told me that I cant cancel since they already start to process freight, only thing I can do is to refuse the parcel and get refund…

    • Yeah just refuse shipment or return it. If you can take the lag in refund process, it should be good.
