  • Done. Thanks OP!

  • I just bought 4 good quality ones, let see how the 5 cent one fairs against the quality ones.

  • I opted for the gift wrapping

  • Will it work with Xiaomi powerbank?

    • -3

Since it's apparently 1m long, your phone will likely discharge rather than charge with it. Cable length affects charge rate.

      • The one came with the powerbank is even smaller. Thus why I am looking to buy a new one. I mean it's to charge the powerbank. Not the phone from powerbank.

        • -1

They're supposed to be small, all cables that come with powerbanks are small for efficient output.

Using a long cable for a powerbank is worse than charging a phone with a laptop in my experience.

      • +4

I have used a 1m cable to charge my phone and tablet from my PC for 2 years.

        • +1

scratches head It could depend on the type of cable but shorter cables will clearly offer less resistance for charging. There's a reason why all Xiaomi powerbanks come with thick + short cables.

        • @Baebs: I don't even know what brand that USB 2.0 cable is. The 7" tablet charges from 3% to 100% in about 80 minutes.

        • +1

@PJC: It's all to do with current output - pc has a different output to a laptop with psu's. Also the battery capacity of your tablet affects how long it takes to fully charge. We're probably detracting from the og question though..

        • @Baebs: On what basis do you say that? I'm certainly no expert (and its a very long time since I studied physics in school!) but I struggle to believe that. The "resistance" in a 1 metre cable is going to be negligible. Surely the cable will need to be far longer (hundreds of metres?) to have any noticeable effect? My 5m cable doesn't charge any slower than my 0.5m cable.

It's completely different to charging via a USB port - the only reason that would be slower tab the wall is if the computer wasn't supplying enough power to the port.

        • @callum9999: https://www.quora.com/Does-the-charging-speed-of-a-mobile-de…

idk My default samsung cable definitely charges slower than the short xiaomi one and fails to charge when i'm using my phone; same for a friend who brought a 1m cable on a trip - ended up borrowing mine.

        • @Baebs: That link doesn't help at all!

Your Samsung being slower doesn't matter, the metal wire itself will be different (e.g. thinner). My 3 metre cable charges faster than a 30cm cable I have - there's much more to it than just length.

        • @callum9999: lets not revive this topic - i already pointed above how the type of cable also matters. A thick 3m cable can most certainly charge faster than a short one, the physics formula (in link) takes into account conductivity + cross sectional area as well. I just don't see this particular 7 cent cable as having the same current output as say a blitzwolf/default samsung cable of same length - the metal wiring inside also matters as you pointed out.

Crappy wiring + increased length = more resistance, hence poor charging.

        • +2

@callum9999: there's much more to it than just length.
          That's what she said.

        • +1

@shmahoo: You wish. You'll just have to make do with what you have.

        • @shmahoo: Well, it's what they said as an afterthought to their argument that solely focused on length after people effectively called it nonsense. Even the posts that acknowledge this still solely focus on the cable length - "my friend needed to use my shorter cable", "my shorter xiaomi cable is better than my longer Samsung" etc

Though I'm not remotely interested in arguing. I was genuinely interested in whether they had any evidence to back it up so I could learn something (resistance being proportional to length shows nothing, it could be negligible at 1m and slightly less negligible at 100m for all we know), they don't so that's that.

      • -2

lol wtf are you talking about. that has nothing to do with anything

As long as the cable isnt some razor thin cable with an incompatible microusb plug, it will charge

Xiaomi powerbank will work with any compliant usb cable

Whether it "quick charges" depends on the AWG gauge and the device being charged (both need to be QC compatible)

  • Thank you!

  • The price goes up when I use the code. what the hell.

    • Check the postage selection

      • +1

Just did that only bought it down to 89 cents again.

thought it was my ipad causing it but trying on my laptop now and it still isnt 7 cents.

    • The price goes up when I use the code. what the hell.

make sure you are selecting the black one.

      • that's racist!

      what am i doing wrong?

      I am signed in.

      • That subtotal is wrong. Have you already purchased one and going for a second?

        • Nope last order on this account was start of 2016.

It's not for new accounts is it?

        • @Axelstrife: Definitely works for existing accounts. I can't re-test it as I just purchased one and worked fine.

        • @Axelstrife: Think I've worked it out. You're either using a VPN, or your ISP is doing some tricky business. Gearbest has blocked purchases from IP addresses that aren't in AU or NZ.

        • @tightarse:
ok well that may explain it.
I'm with myrepublic with a static ip which lots of places think is not from Australia.

        • @Axelstrife: There you go :)

        • @Axelstrife: I'm using them too, but sites don't mistake it for being outside AU. I don't know if I'm static or dynamic.

        • @lostn: im on the gameing plan which includes static ip.

        • @lostn: Hmm as they're new they probably brought a relocatable IP block with them so geo-ip will suck for some time. Seen this happen before.

  • Ordered one.

  • Thanks ! That reminds me did anyone get there $0.03 micro to usb type c adapter?

    • Still waiting, but got the LEDs yestersday.

  • +2

Just hope it doesn't melt or burn the house down somehow.

    • Do you own a Samsung?

      • he wouldn't be posting if he did would he?

  • Ordered. Thanks OP.

  • +1

    I think it's over now.

Code for single unit price only; VIP Price, Special Offer or Group Deal all exempt.

When I use the code, it increases the price to $1.86.

  • Just ordered too

  • You are only allowed one at 5cents.

    • Not worth it just for on.😆

  • Yeah I think limit of 100 reached maybe, it didn't work now.

You should do another round of these deals when the government plans to introduce GST on overseas purchases on 1 July 2017.

  • So cheap and got one at 5 US cents to add to my collection just in case.

  • Thanks Mr TA, AAA+ work ;)

Edit: code still works, it's not expired guys :).

  • +2

The Code you entered has expired.

    • Funny I just finished completing my order and the code worked?

      • I had an overseas address added, and I couldn't change it for my Australian one, for some reason… once I changed it, code expired. :)

    • +1

Still 80 left. Your issue may be this…

    • +1

Don't know why you got down voted it's a little harsh, you where just notifying everyone/asking for help.

    Oh well, next time..!

  • +2

The Code you entered has expired.

    But Thanks TA

  • I dont know if it's unwarranted or not but I dont feel save buying cheap or generic cabling thinking that I might get elerocuted.

  • +2

After the code expiry, the price is showing as $1.19 (60% off) and if you add the code it goes up to $2.48. :)

  • missed out D:

  • SO SAD I MISSED OUT :(

  • +1

Cable arrived today. Not bad for 7 cents.

  • Got mine today :)

  • So did I.

  • Me too…. Cant believe it only cost 7cents!!

  • just received mine! Great cable for 7c, would buy again!

  • Got mine, it's pretty much what you would expect, unfortunately it does do less A than a named Chinese cable I have, ~800mA vs ~1A.

  • Got mine last week :D

  • What a surprise, mine have stopped discharging after a few weeks.
