actually it's more than likely because most of the records were destroyed.

but technically not a loser against Australians, as never in direct combat (and never have been, in any war).

It is good that is free. Just checked my great grandfather and it works. However, I access the WW1 & WW2 Aussie records that have been already been released by the govt for free anyway via the National Archives of Australia records search so nothing in this for me given after the trial period you need the paid subscription. https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/NameSea…

Can't upvote enough. Ancestry is an absolute scam. Almost all of their data is coming from free sources, they just package all of those free sources into one.

It could be forgiven if it wasn't so ridiculously expensive.

This is a scam to obtain users personal and family details for their database. The Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have a vested interest in Ancestry.com for their religious records.

    • I believe Mormons started it (correct me if im wrong). Mormons have always been heavily invested in genealogy which is good for us all

    • Link to corroborate this?

    • Mormon's use this info to baptise people by proxy after they die (or sometimes even before). Yes, after you die you'll be baptised by proxy by some mormon.
You can't make this shit up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism_for_the_dead

Although better explained by Stephen Colbert (when he converts all the dead mormons to Judaism). American VPN endpoint required.

The mormon church isn't strictly related to ancestry.com but they do use the records plenty and have had various partnerships.

It's probably worth watching The Checkout's episode about Ancestry.com from a couple of years ago before signing up - there ARE some "gotchas".
