So you got a shitty VPN which doesn't respect your privacy for a good price? Well done.

  • Any good to get US Netflix?

    • -5

Not if your favourite shows are on Foxtel.

    • You could access many US streaming services this one also.

      • But not Netflix.

        • You could access US Netflix too, feel free to try our service as we provide 30-day money-back guarantee if we don't meet Your expectations.

    • I've been a long term user of NordVPN and yes, you can connect to Netflix and the quality is quite good depending on which server you select. Please note that you can also use it on Android and iOS however select servers must be used (See their Knowledge Base for details).

Signed up two days ago….great timing…

    • This was available more than two days ago. Use your refund if you need to…

      (I've been researching VPNs)

      • Signed up through the Android app using Telstra credit…

I paid $108 aud ($4.50/month) for 2 years just a few days ago. Nord VPNs servers are based in Panama from what I understand, so should be out of reach for the countries that form the five eyes, unlike ,IPvanish which has its servers based in the USA (hello NSA surveillance!).

    • +1

For starters the servers are based in the country you VPN too.

If you're trying to avoid intelligence services, then a commercial VPN isn't one you'd use (how would you know they don't own it, or at least have access to it?).

  • 30 day money back guarantee, does pia have this to?

    • PIA has 7 day money back I believe

      • Not happy, i requested a refund within the 7 days.

This is the reply i received.

        Hey Maurice,

On the website that the promo was purchased, under the Specs tab it states:

        Terms
        All sales final
        Instant digital redemption
Offer good for new Private Internet Access customers only.

This means that the purchase is non-refundable. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The speed that your ISP provides is based on an ideal, standard internet connection. VPN technology is highly complex, and involve a large number of services and factors that can impact the overall speed you would see by using a VPN service.

To see what speeds your ISP is capable of providing to our VPN service, you can run a quick check on our Network page (feel free to try several different servers; you may find that some offer better speeds over your ISP's connection, than others): https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/network/

Once the VPN service is active on your device, under normal circumstances, you should only expect to see a slight drop in speeds from the rate you saw when you ran the tests above; typically only about a 10-15% drop, due to all the features and services that keep you safe online.

If you're seeing more than the expected 10-15% drop, please let us know the following:

What were the exact speeds you saw when you ran the tests on our network page (and which specific servers you observed them on at the time)?:
Where are you testing your speeds once the VPN service is active?
What is the speed you're seeing with the VPN active?
What gateway/server location are you using?
What country/state are you located in?
What operating system are you running on your computer?
Are you running any firewalls or other security software on your computer?
How are you connecting to the internet (public wifi, you own router, an ISP's modem, etc)?
How are you connecting to VPN (our PIA application, a manual setup, another application, etc)?

Looks like i have to put up with this shocking service

We are operating under Panama's jurisdiction, where there are no laws requiring data retention. Also we provide strict no log policy what means we don't collect log data and we don't have any information it could be handed over in response to a subpoena.
Our servers are operating in 57 countries.
Also we have a promo code for 2 years plan. You could use code "SECURITY2" to order 2 years subscription for ~$92,47 AUD ($79 USD) or $3.29 USD per month. You could find the deal here

Any chance your app can have a feature added to disable internet access in the event of VPN dropout (like Cyberghost) instead of the current killswitch that force kills applications on dropout?

      • +1

At the moment we only have app level kill-switch. However we are considering to add a kill switch which would shut down your network adapter completely, at least on Windows and OS X.

        • Forgot to mention that kill-switch you're asking (disables internet connection) already works on iOS

    • Add this to the OP, it is a better value imo

      • We will add it in a while, thanks for insight :)

  • Just cancelled my NordVPN account after a week trialling it.

On Cable 115 Mbps download speeds. On my Shield TV I get 110 Mbps + during normal Netflix Network Check.

Tried their Netflix USA Servers on the Shield and was getting 2 to 3 Mbps, so less than 3% original speed.

On the Mac and PC I was getting constant disconnections from general USA and UK servers.

    Not impressed at all.

    • Did you find someone else?

Of course you won't get anywhere near 100Mbps on any OS server.
Telstra I used to be able to get 10-25Mbps with a VPN to LA, Optus is more like 2-10.

Any chance to get the price back down to $36 USD like it used to be Rep? Love the security but feel that for all the speed problems the price is just a bit too high.

If not $36 USD for one year, how about $70/72 USD for two years?

    • You could find easily deals like:
      * 1 year plan for $48 ($4/month) with promo code SECURITY1
      * 2 years plan for $79 ($3.3/month) with promo code SECURITY2

And now we're running this special spring deal for a limited period of time (ends 5/31) with promo code "SPRING" annual plan for $45 or $3.75 per month.

Sorry but no chances of $36 annually or 70/72 for 2 years :)

      • +1

Yeah, just a bit too expensive for me, I understand that there is a huge thing about being based in Panama and all of that, but for probably 90% of users who aren't going totally off the deep end on the internet this is a bit unnecessary and not good value.

  • $36 would be great! :)

  • +1

Use 'Security2' or '2yspecial2017' for USD $79 for 2 years

Tried the Nord trial a few days ago, my first VPN but was impressed with the ease on Windows, Mac and iOS. Speeds were decent with ADSL2+, US & UK Netflix worked seamlessly. Just gotta configure my Chromecast.

  • Thanks OP

I may give NordVPN a try

  • Can I get some assistance by either the OP and the ozbargain community, I'm testing out the Nord 3 day trial and using servers in Australia and the speed is quite a big drop. Forgive me all again as I'm not completely aware of what is the standard for VPN speeds.

I'm on TPG NBN (FFTB to be exact) and the results I get
    - without the VPN ON is DOWNLOAD 85.60 Mbps / UPLOAD 10.54 Mbps.
    - with VPN on DOWNLOAD 16.76 Mbps / UPLOAD 11.30 Mbps

Am I doing something wrong or does anyone have any good VPN recommendation that won't drop my internet speed this drastically? I don't mind the subscription price I just want a VPN that would probably have closer speeds to my normal internet. Alternatively, OP is this due to being a trial mode that the speed is limited? I wanted to just test it to see the speeds but I think that is quite a big difference.

Thank you all in advance and sorry for the ignorance on VPN. Also, I have VPN with my lifetime Getflix account I purchased a year but don't use it as a VPN more as an unlocker as the speeds are also terrible.

  • I was about to jump on this till I realised its ~$106AUD is not ~$92.47AUD.

I think for my needs, NordVPN will be the best choice for me, I will hold off till later in the year hopefully similar deal + better AUD.
