No deal for me. Cheaper here too. (Especially with Cashback)

Can't really call this a bargain when this camera with all the accessories you listed can be picked up for around $300 or just over.

if you can't provide a link for $300, then what is the point of your comment.

Note this is the new model released end of March.

Damn xiaomi stuff is getting expensive.

Isn't xiaomi. Is xiaoyi which made the first xiaomi action cameras but went back on their own for newer products.

I'm sure the title still reads Xiaomi Yi.

        • Technically speaking Yi Technology (Xiaoyi) make it but they have funding from Xiaomi and sell in Xiaomi's official stores, so it's easier to say they're Xiaomi Yi.

        • @Clear: find me a link and I'll eat my words but they've gone back to being on their own AFAIK.

        • @adrianhughes1998: Most recent funding I can find was mid-2016 and some products are still on mi.com. Overrall they're definitely less reliant on Xiaomi as Xiaomi are expanding their own Mijia brand further.

        • @Clear: yeah that's what i mean, the mirrorless camera and previous generation Yi action camera (Yi 2 i think) were still Xiaomi-backed, but now Xiaoyi are on their own.

And that is further evidenced by the fact that Xiaomi are now releasing their own (well someone else making it) home security cameras, own dash camera now (instead of Xiaoyi last time). The Yi 4K+ in this deal was announced in early 2017, so it is entirely a Xiaoyi not Xiaomi deal.

As you said, the whole Mijia brand.

        • @adrianhughes1998: Pretty much. Still easier for sellers to say Xiaomi ;)

  • starting to gain interest in a sports cam, why this over a GoPro?

Benefits of this model over a GoPro:
      - 60fps when recording 4K. You'd need to find some reviews to see how well they pulled it off. GoPro maxes out at 30fps on 4K.
      - comes with a spare battery, (external?) charger, and lens cover
      - waterproof to 40m with included case

Benefits of a GoPro (Hero5 Black) over this model:
      - cheaper (you can get them for $500 from JB if you ask, cheapest I've seen is $489), but the spare battery costs $35
      - waterproof to 10m without a case (cases can muffle the microphones)
      - GoPro provides a free video editing software than can make use of metadata recorded in the video
      - supports Bluetooth and Wifi (use your phone as a screen, upload content)

I'm sure there are hundreds more features you could compare, I don't know enough.

      • Thanks, I know its a borderline trolling question and I will research, but as the topic has come up and I've proved my interest with a ~$30 cheapie for the motorbike, I might invest.

I like Xiaomi for their budget stuff, it seems weird paying a premium for their products over the industry staple.

Xiaomi also has WiFi + Bluetooth. It's also got a bigger touch screen and a bigger battery.

The biggest benefit to this action camera over the GoPRO is simply its ability to capture 60fps at 4K instead of only 30FPS.

      • Any idea what the bitrate is when recording 4K60? And how much data it writes for 1 minute of video?

Edit: found it, 120mbps. So about 0.9GB per minute.

        • I believe it is actually 135mbps

  • Is the sound any better than the non plus model?
It's what has seriously let me down on past Yi's
