Sh it!!! This is pretty good..

  • +1

Is velocity membership free to sign up?

  • Good deal, last year I was able to get 11gb for $40 with no contract but I haven't seen anything like that recently. I guess an extra $5 for 6gb on contract is good enough. Btw velocity is free to join so you'd be crazy to not take the 10% off offer

    • +2

The older plan had a lot more credit to spend each month, mine has $600

  • +3

Nice deal; step up other carriers!

    • +4

This deal makes Telstra look more unaffordable then ever.

    • After seeing this and contacting telstra to cancel my plan, theyl disconnections team told me they could do the L plan (15gb, $70) for 12mths with an extra 2gb and a $20 discount every month.

Call your providers and ask for their disconnections/saves team! They'll match it!

  • Where does it say it's 10% off for velocity members?

    • Click the link and it's on the far left column.

  • Might have to switch to this. Although not sure if I need all that data.
Currently on the Optus $40 sim only 10GB with my 12 months expired.
The Virgin free streaming is a good bonus.

    • I'm on the $40/10GB Optus plan. Do you think they will match this to keep a customer?

      • Yeah maybe they will. I might try them tomorrow to see if they will.

      • Unlikely imo. Optus owns virgin, so they'll be keeping the customer anyway

        • -2

They don't own Virgin, they simply resell optus.

        • +3

          @apptrack:

Optus bought Virgin mobile a while back.

        • +3

@ChaseTheSun: Yep Optus actually own Virgin.

        • +2

@Slave1: Damn had no idea, learn something new everyday :)

    • Optus has free music AND video streaming now dude….if streaming is where your party is at, stay with Optus. I currently stream Netflix and Spotify free.

      • Virgin has free music streaming too.

  • +2

    $50 cash rewards as well…
that makes min cost $540-$50 = $490; over a 12 month term, $40.83 per month. Data rolls over as well. I wonder if other carriers will follow suit… I'm glad TLG is shaking the bush.

    • Just added to OP.

    • Well, I only just realized that calculation only really works if you stay on this for only 12 months. Which may well be the case if people match it down the track. But I'm going to think of it now as $45 with one month free instead hehe.

  • How do we get the cashrewards cashback? I guess we MUST apply using the shopping cart rather than apply thru online/phone chat??

    • Yes, Think its $50 back on signup if you have your transaction tracked.

      • The coupons only state $50 back with iphone plans.

        • +1

I've interpreted that as other deals they are offering separate from the $50 cash back?

        • @wheresthebeef:

yea ignore my comment…. didn't read yet.

        • @blehgg:
Yeah no worries. Just got email from Cashrewards tracking the $50 couple hours after signing up

        • @wheresthebeef:

          Strange mine didn't get tracked…..

Damn..my Vodafone 2 yr Contract expires in 2 weeks($35- 13gb internet with unlimited calls, both national and international) . I am in two minds if VF will let me retain the plan. If they don't, this seems to be the closest deal I can get to it!

    • Generally speaking, even if the plan is grandfathered, they don't just kick you off it. If you choose to, you can just stay on the same plan. (without a contract this time).
13gb + Unlimited international is pretty sweet (if you happen to make a lot of international calls)

      • +1

I cant remember the last time I let my plan expire with VF. The plan includes additional 6gb (to go with the 7gb), so I am unsure if I will get the 6gb when it expires. I should still be able to retain the unlimited calls I believe (I make a lot of international calls tbh… so this plan has been a blast for me)

        decisions. decisions.

I have worked for telstra and having talking to people I know, the plan I have got it bloody good I hear!

    • That's is damn good value you got with VF, hope that they'd retain as willb mentioned. Do let us know of the outcome.

Just curious, how the hell did ya land on such a package?

      • I had a $5 (or a $10) loyalty credit from my previous plans with them, and at one point, VF had a plan for $45 on a 2 year contract with 6gb (+6gb for the life of the plan) with unlimited international calls (to 10 main countries). Soon after that they scrapped the unlimited call option completely before coming up with capped mins.

They also had screwed up my billing a few times just prior to that and offered an extra gb to keep me happy!

        • Good on you! Enjoy and take the most out of it (pretty sure you already are ;) )

Good luck with the plan retention!

  • +1

I was just about to pull the trigger on the $40 Optus sim only plan.

But this deal is to good to pass on.

BTW… Virgin Mobile use the full Optus network. Other resellers like Woolworth mobile who use the Telstra network, don't offer full access.

    Thank you OP.

    • Optus deal is $36/mo if you have access to a student email.
Still, it's only $9 for the extra 5GB for Velocity members - still not a bad deal at all if you have a use for 17GB.

Edit: Forgot cashback… Cashback makes it ~$41/mo, so no doubt it's worth it. An extra 5GB for $5/mo is insane.

      • $40.83 for 16 gig of data is great.

My home broadband is crap, so now with this deal I can update my apps using cell data.

        • Similar situation here, though the majority of my downloading I do overnight on my main internet so 10GB shared between my phone and data sim is more than enough.

      • +2

got it for 30 per month with the 25% off employee deal last time.

        • Yeah that one tempted me a fair bit, wasn't sure if I could keep my data share sims after recontracting though..

    • The only added benefit is doesn't the optus sim come with netflix and spotify streaming unmetered? Whereas the virgin only has spotify?

  • Mint - this is worth signing up for 12 months for

  • Anyone successfully get the deal early?

    • Starts tomorrow at 9AM.

  • I didn't realise it starts tomorrow and just signed up now. Can I re"upgrade" tomorrow?

    • Definitely call in tomorrow!

  • +5

Would love to sign up but I've had nothing but troubles from Optus network!
Wish Vodafone would match the deal.

    • +3

The person who downvoted you is a sore loser who doesn't like competition. I upvoted :D

    • Lol don't Vodafail use Optus towers too?

      • LOL, possibly.

        • +2

No they don't, Vodafone have their own towers/network equipment for the vast majority of their network. There is some roaming onto Optus towers in rural areas.

        • @bargaineer:

I live in the Noosa / Fraser coast area and switched to vodaphone via the kogan deal similar to this back when it was on (guessing last september since thats when it expires)

Anyway reception here is substantially better thanks to the vodaphone towers and has been even before the vodafail / three saga.
The optus and telstra towers are constantly down for upgrades.

Just about where you frequent IMO

  • Anyone knows if I can pause this whilst overseas for 6 weeks?

    • Not sure, but your data does rollover.

      • Doesn't the data roll over to the next month only? i.e. i don't believe you can keep accumulating over many months and end up with 50gb left or something. (could be mistaken but that was my understanding)

        • Yeah just one month, and it only gets used after the standard inclusion is used. So say it's the 10GB plan with 5GB rolled over; you have 15GB for the month buy say you used 8GB, next month rolls the leftover 2GB.

I mean with 17GB I won't be worrying about that!
10GB with rollover is serving me well. 17GB would be no holds barred.

    • Talked to online chat and apparently it's not possible to temporarily pause/suspend plan

      • That's odd. I'm pretty sure I've read it somewhere on virgin website that you can suspend your plan for $10/month. Its in the virgin support forums FAQ.

        • Well it's an option for prepaid and month to month plans to keep your number. Rip off.

  • hmm so if I've read that right, it's 84 cents for extra 7GB per month as I'm on the $40/10GB no contract atm. Tempting …

But actually, my plan is technically the $60 plan with discount - would it still count as an "upgrade"? :S

    • Yes ure paying more

  • Is there any reason to not go this Virgin deal over the optus? I mean Virgin I have never used before - but it is a reseller of optus - just like amaysim which I am currently on, right?

The optus sim gives you certain free streaming like spotify etc - would this virgin offer using the optus network offer the same full service and freebies? Or would it be contingent on virgin's policies and taking a toothcomb to comparing the two?

And i have a cash rewards account, but how do I access the $ off then virgin? Do you have to goto the virgin site for the first time using cash rewards as the portal first, before it will register? THen do you just sign up today and input your virgin velocity detials and it's discounted??

I was wanting the samsung s8 or another new phone mobile + sim plan, but this is very, very tempting. It locks you in for 12 months which is a bummer though.

    • +1

You get full access to the Optus network and free streaming like optus offer.

    • Optus actually own Virgin so full access.

      • Thanks all. So torn between sim only and keeping my z3 circa dec 14.

Or.finally having more than 16gb internal spaxe and upgrading haha. Telstra obviously doesn't give free streaming?

  • Does anyone know for the uninitiated how this will work in termsof bands/coverage. If we're using amaysim to date then assumedly the bands and coverage will be optus and therefore any virgin plan would have the exact same coverage and speeds right? i.e. virgin or amaysim have the same rights to the same speeds/use of optus network given the exact same situation?

I am running an xperia z3… not too old but neither new either… but i still find reception sketchy at times. But still workable with amaysim.

    • Virgin uses the whole Optus network IIRC, not sure about Amaysim. You will get, in the worst case, the same coverage you currently do.

However as an Optus customer, I have to say the network is pretty poor. I can't use it on the train, in certain parts in and around Sydney and Melbourne etc.

    • Expired?

      • Nope the main page has an old date, the fine print says it's still running until next month :)

  • +1

How do you actually reduce the price with Velocity 10%?

After entering velocity number it still shows same price. Is it calculated 'after' you get approved for the plan on your bills?

    Thanks guys.

    • anyone know?

    • Looking at the "fine print" it says you need to "To redeem the offer, you must provide us with a valid Velocity membership number before your second bill is issued".

Velocity 10% off Offer: Sign up between 30 March 2017 and 14 June 2017 to a $50+ 24 month Phone Plan or $50+ 12-month SIM Plan and receive 10% off the cost of your monthly access fee excluding handset repayments and any additional costs such as data costs until you cancel or change plans; and 1,000 Velocity Points by your third bill. To redeem the offer, you must provide us with a valid Velocity membership number before your second bill is issued. Your discount will be removed if your Velocity membership is found to be invalid or if you cancel your Velocity membership throughout the life of your contract. Velocity membership and Velocity Points earn and redemption is subject to the Member Terms and Conditions, available at www.velocityfrequentflyer.com, as amended from time to time.

  • Is this deal better than Spintel,Exetel,Jeenee…unltd calls and text,30gig data, all for $50 month prepaid..using Optus Network(no contract.)

  • I'm not seeing the extra 2gb mentioned, am I missing something?

    • Maybe a few more hours before it commences.

    • +1

      Fake news maybe?

    • Its on the website now

  • +1

Doesnt seem to apply for existing customers.

It says on the website. Enter promo code DATADASH at checkout but not in my existing account when i try to upgrade.

    • For me it says if upgrading I basically do it through My Account. I can see the $50/pm option, still showing 15GB. I reckon you would be able to haggle the extra 2GB from online chat or whatever after switching (maybe needing to get the right chat person lol).

Pretty sure you can't get the Cash Rewards thing though since it's just an internal billing change, not a purchase. And no I don't think I'm bothered to sign up for a new one, then port things over or whatever.

  • I can see the bonus for new customers, but when I go to change in my account, It doesn't come up with the bonus

    • I asked via webchat - they automatically apply it apparently

Question: great - so i dont need to enter the promo code to this ?

Answer: This wont show on the purchase, it will be automatically be applied once the service gets activated.

      • awesome, on chat to them now.

  • I'm on the $40/10Gb month to month - Can't decided whether to commit to 12 months for this and move my wife over from amaysim to the cheapest Virgin sim only plan and gift her the extra 7Gb. Someone help me decide!

    • +2

      Do you ever use 10GB?

I'm on the $50 Telstra 10GB plan and don't go near it even with music streaming even though I thought I would.

      • Mmm, not usually. Think I knew all along that it's not a benefit for me committing to 12 months but your reply made the decision that much easier for some reason. Thanks! :)

  • Existing customers upgrading do it through My Account rather than the shop, which just changes their own billing to send you a different bill next time. Since it's not a purchase there won't be Cash Rewards.
Not without a lot of effort buying and then switching or porting or whatever.

$45 w/ Velocity for 17GB is still a decent deal but not getting CR is actually making me hesitate now lol

    • the credit helped a lot, but when I go to upgrade on my account it doesn't show the extra 2gb lol.

      • Yeah there's that too. Like I said above I reckon there is a good chance (no guarantee ofcourse) that you can get the extra 2GB through online chat or whatever.

        • just got mine through the online chat. they confirmed its a $50 plan but as long as you have velocity attached to your account, the discount will show up under charges on your bill as a discount.

        • @JuggaloG: Did you have to enter code DATADASH?

        • @TightAssDude: no, just spoke to them on live chat and they sorted it all out for me.

    • Since it's not a purchase there won't be Cash Rewards.

      Damn it. This sucks.

  • +1

I just ordered, but realised I never saw the prompt to enter code DATADASH. I'm a new customer.

    Anyone else experience this?

    • Its apparently automatically applied. I spoke to them via webchat

    • Also had trouble finding the prompt to enter the promo code using Chrome. Switched to Internet Explorer and the prompt appeared under the grey Sub Total heading once added to cart. Entered the code DATADASH to get the msg Congratulations! You'll get 2GB bonus each month until you cancel or change plans.

    • +1

The way i read their T&Cs it is that you sign up on 4 may and you get 2GB bonus. "4 May Bonus: sign up on 4 May 2017 to the $50 12-month SIM Plan and receive 2GB bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) until you cancel or change plans."
PLUS if you enter DATADASH you get a bonus 2GB. It never mentions that you have to enter DATADASH to get the May 4 bonus. You could read this as being 15GB + 2GB bonus from DATADASH code + 2GB May 4 Bonus = 19GB.
Really needed to call / chat with them but not available until tomorrow.
