You get far bigger discounts on coffee machines on this forum.

  • I bought this model 2 years ago, my only only qualm is the water tank is only 3L otherwise this machine does everything I need.

    • lol what do you want? 44gal drum? 3L is decent.

      • The more expensive model is 5L from memory but when I work from home I usually consume at least 3 full cups a day, like I said my only qualm is the smallish 3L tank.

If you're chasing this sort of machine, check out the official clearance page.
They sometimes have additional offers off the already discounted price

Good point although the factory second of this model is only $40 cheaper than a new one through this deal. So I'm happy I got a new one.

  • I have a magnifica S and love it. Looks identical to this unit but i thinks it's smaller. God I would love a 3L tank.

  • Sorry mods..I attached the wrong link in my previous reply..

Great price..I was looking at buying this machine from Amazon UK in 2012 but instead went for another model with similar features for around $370 delivered …purchased it based on the consistently good reviews..It's a great machine that gets daily use and still runs well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-Magnifica-Espresso-Cappucc…

It pops up on CamelCamel every now and then for around the same price… in GBP.. Despite our crappy exchange rate it still works out cheaper than buying locally..

Can still recall cursing HN at the time when they took over 3 weeks to deliver an online order and I received the coffee machine from the UK in just over a week!..

Does anyone know how messy, difficult or time consuming it is to use the steam wand on this? I'm considering whether buying this or paying the extra for the machines with the automatic milk frothers.

My experience compared to the one with the auto frother in the office: the steam wand actually gives you better froth than the one with automatic milk frother as it can foam it up more and have it slightly more viscus as there is no issue pumping it into the cup. I recommend a thick cloth to wipe it down after frothing, regardless of whether you have an automatic one or the manual one. The thing with the automatic ones is that you also have to take the container out and put it in the fridge and you need to clean it regularly. If you don't have three or four cups a day you'll find that your milk goes off if you fill up the container properly so you'll probably still find yourself manually topping up the container every day or two and more rinsing and cleaning than with the manual one.

    • I just used the steam wand the other night for the first time, it is pretty good.

      • Is it worthwhile though? I am used to using a manual machine and honing the method to get good coffee. I definitely see the appeal of a one button fully automatic machine but the halfway approach doesn't seem to make any sense to me, you sacrifice the quality and still have to make the milk yourself.

        • I used to have a Sunbeam EM6900 before my wife refill the water container (pour from the top opening) too quickly and fried the PCB board under it, I love making coffees myself and I only drink long blacks so there was no issues on not using the steam wand.

You can however can purchase a separate automatic milk froth-er I have one that came with the EM6900 and I haven't use it once!
