    • lucky you…

        im there right now!!!!

As the app is >20MB, you cant dowload it on the iphone directly via 3G; you need to be connected to a wifi or get it via itunes on your computer.
(I hate the way it wont allow you to do that !! To warn you, yes. But then you should be able to do it if you want!)

    • Damn !!!! I just noticed that too… :(

    • I know what you mean!

It'd be great if the system had a way to separate buying from downloading. So you could buy now and download later.

    • Yup same problem here… quite annoying.

      • I think if you start the download you will be ok, then complete later. NOT 100% sure but try it anyway you've got nothing to lose and you have 20 minutes left to try….

        • Yeah I tried it straight away, but came up with the 20mb limit message, ah well.

  • awesome thanks for that. my poor iphone 3g is getting very slow though and no money to upgrade to iphone 4 :(. hopefully this isnt too system intensive.

  • Good find. Pitty I won't get home til 5.30pm on the dot. By the time the computer boots up I'll miss out.

    • Probably worth giving a shot anyway. It's unusual for these to switch off exactly on time.

    • Next time, leave PC on, get Teamviewer or similar app to remote control your PC.

      This deal is great.

      • won't work for me… our work pc's are locked down and can't install anything on them… :(

  • Just download it on your work PC or a PC of someone you know using your iTunes account, then redownload when you get home.

  • it requires 4.0…Big letdown

    • +2

4.0 is great… unless you have an original 3G.. in which case you should cry. :(

      • What's wrong with an original 3G? I don't quite understand your comment. Please enlighten me!(:

        • The original 3G is REEEEEAAAALLLYY slow running version 4.0 for very little benefit. Apple have stated they're going to look into it, so perhaps a patch will be out soon.

          • +1

@camson: why would they do that? there's no money in it for them….

            • @jv: Because people have complained so loudly and so much about the woeful performance.

Steve Jobs has said in one of his super short emails that there is an update coming soon.

              http://www.macrumors.com/2010/08/20/jobs-software-update-to-…

              Might even be tomorrow…..

            • @jv: I'm not sure why you got a couple of negs for that…it's a pretty fair appraisal of the way many businesses operate, not just Apple!

Jeez the fanbois are so sensitive!!! :p

          • @camson: AH I SEE I SEE. No wonder my sister was complaining about how laggy her iPhone became after upgrading it to version 4.0.

  • aww.. my account is the US store and this is only free in the Australian iTunes store… still good bargain!

    • +3

get an australian itunes store account then… i have both…

  • Thanks. Just logged into my pc remotely and downloaded it via itunes. Think I may have stuffed up the voting, I'm such a newb.

  • +2

I think its also free in nokia ovi store

  • +1

    Just missed out :(

  • Great i don't live in melbourne

  • ?I got a error notice saying its not available in the Australia Store?

    • +1

Yeah I get the same - I'm guessing they pulled the app once it hit 5:30pm…

This [mod edited] sucked. Only a few hours to download it? I check ozbargain in the morning and at night…. no way I could have gotten here in time :(

    Mod: Watch the language please.

I downloaded at 550pm. But I didnt download through the link tho, i go directly to apps store and it was still free at that time.

  • the first 2 word on the topic got me thinking "NO WAY" and than the rest is ignored until I clicked in…

  • the apps is still free it seems. unless there was a different travel guide.

edit: yeah was looking at a different one sorry.

  • Darn, I live in Melbourne but would have liked to have this. Back to $7.99 :(

    • Ditto. 7.99 here :(

  • Question guys:

Am I able to re-download this for free on another computer using my same log-in?

ie: I downloaded this using my laptop itunes but my iphone is sync with my home computer. So can I re-download this for free if I log into my home computer using the same login?

    • Yes, you should be able to. I let me sister download apps I buy onto her computer. It should be able to active on 5 different systems.

  • BEWARE. I find many Lonely Planet guides stall during installation AND will cause problems during OS upgrades. And it's not just me, I've had friends had it happen to them too.

You can simply cancel during the process if it happens, but I say install LP apps at your own risk.
