Steam Link $36 & Steam Controller $63 @ EB Games

1170

EB has dropped their price for the steam hardware temporarily, again. For those that haven't picked these up for their TV PC gaming experience, I recommend it. In store and online. Add delivery for online.

      • Add SC link to steam or run steamlink in desktop mode (aka exit from BIG PICTURE)

    Gday
Instead of waiting 14 months to wait for eb games AU to exort this device I pre ordered this from Amazon USA

It is a bl00dy awesome device
I ended up using it more as a media streaming device then gaming

It can work with a lot of range of devices wired or wireless
Streaming works better with WIRED ETHERNET then WIFI even wifi AC

As long as you have a windows PC with STEAM you can stream games or your windows DESKTOP to this small device
which I ended up watching MOVIES, TV and iview and Kodi from my main PC in the other room
to the steam link beside the TV in the bedroom

I only stopped using it when I dropped the thing in a bit move and it went bung
otherwise id be still using it daily

For 36 bucks its a FRAKING awesome price

    • Could stream movies to the steamlink too? ill have to look into that.

      • +1

If you add something like Notepad as a non-steam game you can launch that and stream your entire desktop

In steam big picture, go to options and just minimize the big picture to desktop.

  • I have nVidia Shield TV and the controller, PC has an nVidia card. How does Shield compared to Steam? I only purchased 2 games on Steam. Really tempted to get the Steam Link, but I think Shield TV does something similar?

    • +2

Yes, you can use Gamestream on your PC to stream your Steam games to your Shield, as long as your Nvidia card is a GTX650 or better.

They both do pretty much the exact same thing so unless you are interested in getting a Steam link for another TV I wouldn't bother.

  • Is that controller a reduced price as well?

I'm looking at using the steamlink as a means of projecting my desktop so I can play emulators on the TV. The controller can be optional as I already have an xbox360 controller for the PC. This should work, right?

    • If you have the USB adaptor (wireless or otherwise) it will work. I use one as my second controller for 2 player games like Mortal Kombat.

      • I got it already but having issues with the controller getting recognised in the emulator (epsxe). I'm using a wired 360 controller. Gonna try it again on a different emulator later to see.

  • Got a controller for SWOTR - able to map all hotbars etc, works a treat.

  • Thanks, took the plunge. Got a link but not a controller.

Bought it. Set it up in 10min. Actually all you need to do is plug it in and make sure Steam is running in your PC on the same network. Works like a charm. I'm using a Xbox360 controller.

  • If your unsure about your local area network being fast enough, if you can get your hands on a spare laptop, install Steam on that and test out the game streaming to that

  • Is it possible to connect my racing wheel to Steam Link?

    • +1

Yes but you have to buy additional software called VirtualHere and sometimes it can be hit or miss.

      • Any input latency if I use that software?

  • Got it, thanks OP!

  • Went to buy the Steam Controller, ended up getting the Link too. I'm not sure how it'll go considering the network around my place involves Ethernet-over-Power adapters and it gets a little flakey occasionally. The Rundle Mall store in Adelaide seems to have stock.

  • I'd prefer an Android box and a Dualshock 4 if I used an Nvidia graphics card.

  • Any word of a new model coming soon or revision? Because this discount seems to be worldwide. I can't use my pc atm due to an eye issue so holy wow this be perfect for me right now ( seeing as my wife's laptop cannot be used for streaming now as it's broken)

    • Because this discount seems to be worldwide.

Yeah Amazon have both discounted too. Link comes to 27 AUD but they don't ship it here unfortunately.

  • Does anyone know where to get a steam controller battery pack? Can't stand using batteries

    • -1

      it uses 2x AA batteries

  • Just copped. Now I need a computer to use it with

  • does this deal end today?!
